Feeling her hand on his shoulder, Shun looked up suddenly, as if being snapped out of something. He gritted his teeth and shifted a little uncomfortably. There was that urge again. The thing was.. he wasn't so sure if he didn't like this. He wanted to be able to protect Mitsu as well as others. And at the same time, he still longed for revenge. That desire had never left him, though it might have grown quiet.
Thankfully, the feelings died down a little as the topic was switched.
"Oh? And what's that?" he asked.

Was he...? Yes, it seemed that he had snapped out of it a little. She was clearly worried about the boil, but it was because she was worried that she made no effort to press him more on his feelings and his sudden desire for power. Keeping his mind off of such things seemed to be the best course of plan.
Clearing her throat, the ghoul glanced down into her lap and frowned. "It's nothing important really. I just wanted to do a little digging on something from my family background out of curiosity's sake." And frankly, it was a nice conversation change from the heavy one they were having just a few moments ago. "You see, apparently my great grandfather once owned this incense burner that contained a special kind of incense that could make someone fall asleep. Only, he got caught up in a bit of a scuffle with a gang, and when he woke up, the incense burner was gone."
"I'm sure it might be a long shot, especially since it was so long ago, but I was wondering if you've ever...heard of anything like that? I-I mean, if it's in the hands of a dangerous gang, I don't want to pursue it...but I would like to learn a little more about it." Because honestly, it kind of pained the baku to know that her family had had something so useful at one point, only to have it stolen.

Shun listened carefully as Xiu explained her situation. So her family had some sort of magical sleep inducing incense burner. Closing his eye, he searched through his memory, trying to recall anything of that sort of nature. He could see why she approached him on this given his family ties and all.
Several moments passed on in silence.
"Actually... I do recall hearing about something like that," he started, still taking a bit to piece together what he recalled, "I believe I remember hearing someone in the Laburnum family having a similar item."
He paused there and looked towards the Baku.
"That's Titus's family, by the way," he noted, just in case she didn't know. While she was aware of his ties, he wasn't certain if she knew that Titus came from a similar background as his own. Well. She would now.

Xiu had told herself not to keep her hopes up when she decided to ask Shun about this. After all, it had been a good few generations ago, and even if he did know details about the gang, she didn't feel like it was likely that they were still around here. Perhaps they had moved somewhere else, for example? She wasn't sure how gangs worked, but after all this time, she didn't think that it was necessarily unlikely.
Thus, when the reaper revealed that he had heard about such an object, the baku immediately perked up. "Really?!" So there was a lead! The Laburnum family, hmm? Laburnum. ...Laburnum? Where had she--
--oh. Oh. Xiu's face instantly fell, going from bright and excited to an unamused expression that rivaled Shun's own. When she spoke, her voice was flat. "...Titus. Are you serious?" And for that matter, Titus' family was a gang?

"Am I ever not serious?" Shun retorted with a raised brow. Letting out a sigh, he shrugged it off and went to explain a few things.
"Titus's family is an ally of mine. Though you wouldn't guess it from the way he and I deal with one another. He's a trouble maker to them since they don't all share the same reaper-hate as he does. And so I know a few things regarding them, but not a great deal."
He paused for a moment, thinking this over some more.
"If this is the same item as the one your family is missing, it would make sense. Titus is a nightmare demon after all. Having such an object would be beneficial to his kind," he said calmly.

"I can never tell if you're serious when you call me by that ridiculous nickname," She pointed out, suddenly smiling. Hime-sama...really? She had to find a nickname to use in retort one of these days.
She was surprised to learn that Titus' family was an ally to Shun's, but...not quite surprised to learn that he was a trouble maker. The ghoul gave a little shake of her head at that, folding her arms over her chest as she considered this new information. Originally, she hadn't been planning on going for the incense burner...but now that she knew who had it and knew Titus personally...
Perhaps it was time to have a talk with the nightmare demon.
The baku grimaced slightly at Shun and nodded. "That's for sure. In the hands of a creature that deals with nightmares or dreams, something like that would be very handy indeed. But...thank you, aniki. That was a very helpful bit of knowledge."

Shun didn't say anything regarding the nickname and just sort of shrugged instead. It was hard to say what he thought about that exactly.
"It's not a problem. What do you plan on doing from here? Regarding the item?" he asked. She had mentioned that she wasn't planning on trying to retrieve it, but did she really mean that? Because as they agreed, this sort of item would be rather useful to those affiliated with dreams or nightmares.

No answer. ...Well, she certainly hoped that he wasn't serious about that nickname, because really...
Sighing, the baku folded her arms over her chest, her ears drooping slightly. "I...was going to leave it," She admitted quietly, "But that's because I figured it was probably lost for good. I just wanted to do a little research on it. Now that I have a lead that it's possibly in the hands of a nightmare demon's family though..."
She wrinkled her nose. "Would it be too dangerous for me to go after it, do you think? Or to speak to Titus about it?" Even if that was one of the last things that she wanted to do. Afterall, it wasn't as if she and Titus were friends--not even close.

"I doubt Titus would tell you anything. Maybe.. if you had something to offer in return but quite frankly I wouldn't bother dealing with that useless asshat," Shun scoffed. His opinion of the nightmare demon was not very high to say in the least.
"Not to mention that if you do decide to go for it, it would be suspicious of you after having asked about it. As for safety... yes it would be dangerous. Their boss might not be like Kaitou, but they are still a criminal family."
The Reaper let out a breath.
"I might be able to do some digging around myself, but I can't get too deep without getting myself into boiling water. If it were an enemy family, that'd be another matter completely."

Criminal family. That obviously wasn't the most reassuring thing to hear, and it did give Xiu pause when she considered whether to go for the incense burner. After all, it had belonged to her family for generations--knowing that it was possibly in the possession of someone so close by just made it extremely tempting.
And dangerous. She trusted Shun's judgement, but now that the thought of seriously going for it had crossed her mind, it was hard to think of anything else. Imagine how many of her insomniac friends she could help if could get the burner back, or flipped around, the possibility of being able to induce sleep in a hunter and enter their dreams.
However, his next words made the ghoul perk up in alarm. "Wait--will you get in trouble for telling me these things, aniki?" Should she actually go through with this, dropping his name was the absolute last thing that the baku intended on doing, but if there was a chance that he would get caught?
Suddenly Xiu looked a lot more conflicted than before.

Shun raised an eyebrow at that, then shrugged.
"Unless you tell them where you got this information, they would have no evidence of me doing anything of the sort. It isn't as though I am the only one to know these things," the Reaper noted, "However, if I were to do something like attempt to personally steal it back, then yes I would likely get in trouble... if I were caught."
He shrugged again. Doing anything direct would be too risky on his part and he'd rather not do anything that could potentially incite a gang war. But as far as he was aware, information was fine for him to deal, just as long as he was being discrete about it.

The baku relaxed slightly. Well then, in that case, everything should hopefully be okay. After all, she wasn't so foolish as to give out names--if anyone asked, she did some very careful digging of her own.
"Don't worry," She smiled, giving a dismissive wave of her hand, "The help with the information is plenty, and--ah. Do you...possibly know who has it or where they keep it? Or could you...find out, maybe?" She felt guilty for asking these kinds of favours, but in all honesty, Shun was probably the only one of her friends who could help her with this.
So she was really going to go for this. There was a moment of pause, and then she suddenly squeaked, "Or maybe I should just try to talk it out with them."
In the midst of all her excitement about ADVENTURE and WOOHOO MISSING HEIRLOOM, Xiu kind of forgot the important fact that stealing is wrong.

Shun wouldn't consider it stealing so much as reclaiming lost goods. Raising an eyebrow at Xiu briefly, it seemed that she was really going to go for the item after all. As for her question, he thought it over and nodded slowly.
"I can try to find out what I can. I don't know off the top of my head who has it exactly or where it is."
He was going to need to be careful about how he went about finding that information. It would be suspicious if he was obviously poking around for it and then it went missing shortly afterwards. He was going to need to be discreet. Right now, it was also a little more difficult. But. He did recall that his father was going to contact him relatively soon.

Xiu nodded, a small smile spreading over her lips as she relaxed. She knew that asking Shun had been the right idea! "Thank you! Sorry to inconvenience you though, and...just know that I'll drop it if it becomes too much trouble." The same thought had crossed the baku's mind in regards to how suspicious it would be if he were to ask around about it, only for it to disappear soon afterwards. She definitely wasn't the only one who had to be sneaky about this whole incense thing.
"Please let me know if I can do anything for you in exchance, okay? Bake something, cook something--I don't know, just name something reasonable and I'll be more than happy to help." She grinned up at him, and then gave a little shake of her head as her hand reached up to touch her necklace.
"Goodness knows that I owe you for always putting up with my ramblings!"

Nodding lightly to that, Shun soon paused as Xiu requested that he let her know if there was anything he needed help with in return. To that, he just slowly shook his head.
"No. If anything I was indebted to you for all the things you've helped Mitsu and I with," he said quietly, "this is the least I can do, really."
There was a small pause there.
"That said... if you need anything else, feel free to let me know."
