"Doubtful. Some people do change their opinion quickly while others...not so much." She stated giving the other something of a smile, though it was a little forced. She simply wasn't the cheerful sort, never really had been. She supposed she had been as a child but not so much in her teenage years. "Favorite animals rarely change, if anything they move up or down a scale of how much they are liked, as other animals join the list." At least that was her experience with such matters, talking to family, friends, and such.
"India...they like the purer gold. It would need to be 22karat or 24karat. It's more expensive, though it's softer. Something with a bangle quality, since that's common in their jewelry. Earrings maybe, if she has pierced ears - which I'm assuming she does." She spoke after a moment of thinking. "You'll have to look in specialty jewelry stores for that - like some of the Asian ones. Normal stores sell 12karat or 14karat. The gold quality they like in India and such is really soft, almost too soft, so it's not sold in most normal jewelry stores because of that." With the beating most jewelry took it made no sense to get such a high karating when all it did was make it soft.
Are you looking for gemstones also, or just gold on it's own?" Which was quite nice really. Sometimes gold, and no stones, was very nice.

Gwen couldn't help but feel as if she hit a jackpot of knowledge from Winterlynn. Maddy enjoyed jewelry but she was certainly no expert, not like Winterlynn was! Gwen was never fond of jewelry herself, either, but to hear someone else who seemed to know exactly what they were talking about go on did give her some growing interest of her own, even if she only seemed to be absorbing her enthusiasm. The moment she got home, she'd likely forget half of what was discussed, but Gwen was always willing to try something different or new, even if only once. Why not try to learn more about jewelry and gold? Even if it was only to satisfy her sister, and her new girlfriend Anandi? "You seem to know a lot about gold and stuff, Winterlynn," Gwen said, knowing that she was stating the obvious but not caring either. She may have sounded like a wide-eyed, slacked jawed admirer, but she was always truthful to herself and others. In regards to her question, she gave a shrug, not afraid to show how completely clueless she was on the matter since she knew she couldn't even try to fool her. "Well, you see, the one that I want to get gold for it... very special to me, and so I want to make sure she, or he... gets the best gift." Then she kind of mumbled, a bit ashamed of herself but unable to keep it to herself. "Even if I don't really have that much money to spend... heh..." So, she thought about it and figured it couldn't hurt to go ALL the way. "So... all gold?"

"Of course. I work at a jewelry store and I'm attending classes for gemology - the study of gemstones." She spoke giving the other quite the smile. This was the first honest, and full, smile she'd given the other. But she liked what she did and liked to talk about it, so to those who knew her such a smile over this topic wouldn't be a surprise.
"A girlfriend...or a female family member?" She asked wondering which it was, though the way it was said lead her to believing it was a girlfriend and not just some female family member Gwen was close to. Part of working in the industry was knowing people and being able to read them, read what they weren't saying but meant, and being able to decipher what they wanted when they didn't even know themself. It wasn't always easy and took time to learn people so well. But she liked to think she was good at it, having worked for a year handling peoples needs and working under some pretty good sales assistants and a good manager.
"Mmm, yeah all gold or close to it. Certain groups of people, culturally speaking, prefer the higher karats due to it being more pure. And if your lacking money you could...if you wanted...come to where I work tomorrow. I'll be on shift in the evening and can personally assist you and give you my discount. While we're not an Asian jewelry store we are near that part of the city so we do have plenty of high karat gold - just in case such people come in." Though that rarely happened. They tended to favor their own stores. But there was the rare occasion where people came in looking for 22 or 24karat gold jewelry and they did have it.
"If that's to your liking of course. And that would be my discount on top of the holiday sales we already have. So you should be able to afford something nice for your friend." And it seemed their own assistant was back and with what they'd asked for, all on a small velvet covered board.
"Why don't you go first Gwen, since you'll be faster in deciding here." She knew the selection of 22 and 24karat gold at her store was small, really small, but she hoped there would be something good there. If they ever got more people with an interest in the higher karats she knew the section would grow bigger. But really she saw no point in owning such high karat gold, plus she preferred white gold over yellow gold anyway.

It took everything... EVERYTHING for Gwen's blush to not completely consume her face, but for now, she was thankful that it seemed to remain only on her cheeks when Winterlynn had asked if it was for a girlfriend or a female family member. In truth, she could have EASILY have said it was none of her business, and yet, Gwen was the one that opened the door to the conversation and thus invited the question in. That, and it wasn't like Gwen to be discrete. In truth, she wanted to run up and down the streets and parade the fact that she had a girlfriend, but for the sake of Anandi, she was trying to keep it on the down low. At least until they could get an idea of what their families' reaction would have been. "Girlfriend, actually..." Gwen admitted, not too loudly but there was still a hint of pride there, that she was happy about her newly blossomed romance but wanted to keep it discrete for the time being. Not that other customers would care, or even recognize her, but still... no need for EVERYONE to be all up in her business. She listened intently to Winterlynn, absorbing her enthusiasm and knowledge on the subject, as well as her offer. Yes, that definitely sounded like a good deal, and Gwen would have been a fool to pass it up! "That sounds like a great idea... I'll definitely be there sometime tomorrow to grab something for her! She might be angry with me if I spend more than she'd feel comfortable with anyways, so this could work out great for all of us!" Not that she could imagine Anandi being angry- she was simply too tenderhearted and bubbling to look angry for too long and not come out of it looking adorable in some manner of speaking. When Winterlynn offered her to go first, Gwen took it and ran with it, flashing a more relieved smile at the sales associate when she returned with their requested items. Now that her mind was more or less preoccupied on Anandi's gift and the hopes of getting a good deal on that, it made picking out an item for Maddy all the easier. She looked at the three dolphin themed items and without too much mulling, she pointed to the one in the middle, the hair barrettes with the sapphire jewel enclosed in a gold lining. "I think I'll take this one... yes, I think Maddy would like it and it'd look good on her," Gwen said, wanting to pick it up but refraining. She wasn't sure what the policy was at one of these fancy stores, but she was certain that shoplifting was definitely probable and highly frowned upon. She looked to Winterlynn and back down at the barrette a few times, and the way she tilted her head seemed to indicated that she was trying to imagine the piece in her own sister's hair. "Hmmmm... what do you think, Winterlynn? You think she'd like this one?"

"Indeed it could work out very well." Smiling at the other gently, like an older sister might. Of course if Gwen didn't find anything she liked, given her stores small selection of high karat gold items, she could refer her elsewhere but the discount she was offering wouldn't go with the recommendation to another place. And who knows what sort of sales another place would have either.
Watching the other make her choice she tilted her head just a bit, hoping to let the other get a better look at the top of her head. "You are trying to picture them on your sister, right?" She asked nodding her head to Gwen, who was looking from Winterlynn herself to the clips. "If she likes hair decorations, as you indicated she does, and she likes dolphins then yes. I think she'll like them. Sapphire's are a nice stone as well, a personal favorite of mine." The shade of blue and depth of the color saturation was nice. She really did like the color of the stones as well, she'd by now leaned forward the inspect them. "Yes a very nice color. They aren't cloudy or anything either." Which was always a good thing.
Righting herself she turned a smile to Gwen. "They are nice." A look to the sales assistant then and she focused on her own task at hand. A few pieces that had been brought over were moved aside. "Mmm, a little too much color for me - I know the more color the more value." She said lightly when as she found herself turning her focus onto a nice emerald cut piece, white gold chain. "The clarity is nice." Which with a aquamarine was easy to tell.
The price tag was looked at with a passing glance, she had an idea on the price and wasn't disappointed either. Really she didn't like spending so much but...it was the holidays. "I'll take it." Came the quick words from the dark haired female. If she hesitated she'd start and other internal war with herself, and she didn't need that.

Gwen hoped that she didn't blush too much when Winterlynn caught onto her game, and if anything, it practically made her beam. It was definitely a good idea to have gone in her with instead of trying to shop on her own, Gwen thought, otherwise she wouldn't have a jewelry expert, nor a stand-in model for her sister, minus a few a lot of visual differences. "Yeah, I am. Sorry! But you're right! I'm definitely going to get them for her..." It seemed that the sales associate was pleased that Gwen had made her decision fairly quickly, as her smile seemed more relieved than genuine. Perhaps she was simply expecting more of a fuss or for Gwen to be indecisive, but nevertheless, Gwen glanced at the price and didn't scoff. It seemed like a fair price, and she'd still have enough left over to get something for Anandi, barring any random trips to the food court or unexpected expenses. This was definitely a much better shopping experience than Gwen was expecting so close to Christmas... She looked to Winterlynn as she was peering over her own requests, and she couldn't help but gush. She just didn't know how much of her own gratitude that she could keep in check at this point; what she was fearing was going to be a hellish day was saved, by someone who knew their stuff and happened to look like Maddy from a distance. "Thanks for all your help, Winterlynn... I'll be honest and say I don't know a lot about anything, but jewelry especially I don't know anything about. So, thanks for helping me out! If there's any way I can repay you, let me know?"

"Quite alright. It's best you know what your getting is something you'll be happy with in the end." Came the calm response. It was always good, in her opinion, to get something you would be happy with rather than purchasing in a rush or without thinking things through. She'd had several customers who would buy things and then a few days later return the item(s). It was almost always a case of the piece not being what they wanted and rather they wanted the other one they'd been looking at, even though she always told people to think it over even sleep on it if they needed to.
Looking up from her inspection of the pieces brought to her, her choice made, she nodded her head to the other. "Most people don't know anything. They go by what they like and really have no idea of the quality or what anything means. I don't mind helping someone in this area." Since she knew a good deal about it, and people should get what they were paying for and not be ripped off because they were clueless.
"You don't owe me anything." She didn't like the idea of people owing her, she disliked owing other people things even more. It was the simple idea of being in debt to someone which bothered her - she didn't like someone having something over her quite frankly. "If you can wrap it." As she had noted they were doing wrapping of purchases. A smile given to the sales associate as the woman complimented her choice and went to return the other pieces before returning to direct them to check out.

"I wish I knew a lot about something to be helpful to others..." Gwen said, the admiration in her voice unmistakable as she followed Winterlynn over to check out, clutching the barrette in her hands as though it was the Holy Grail. She tried to think of something that she knew a lot about to be on equal ground with Winterlynn, something that wasn't based on her true identity as Eternal Sailor Tsui, and the only thing that came to mind was animals. Her time spent at the zoo and research on her own had made her rather knowledgeable about animals of varying shapes and sizes, though she'd never call herself an expert. Still, it was something, and it was enough for Gwen to beam. "Maybe I'll look into working at the zoo, and I can be just as wise and knowledgeable about all the animals I take care off as you are with jewelry!" It seemed like an ambitious goal, but since when was Gwen anything but ambitious? It was a worthy goal, one that she would set her sights once the new year rolled around. For now, she simply wanted to make sure that she made Maddy happy this Christmas... considering how much worry and disappointment she put the girl through this year, her sister deserved to be happy. She handed the barrette and her cash over to the cashier with little hassle, eager to bring it home and attempt to wrap it herself. Sure, she could have had them do it here, like Winterlynn had, but she prided herself in doing things for herself, or at least the few things she could. Once she picked out a gift, the rest would be easy as pie! Which now made her hungry... she ignored the growling of her stomach and hoped that Winterlynn couldn't hear it over the chatter around them. "But seriously, thanks a lot! I'm sure she'll love it!"

"I'm sure you do. Everything a person knows is helpful to someone. Given how many people are alive, and how different we each are, their is something you know that would be useful to someone else. No matter how small it may seem to you." Or how small the person the information would be useful to was, as they might be a child or children. Being older normally meant you knew things which would be useful to a child. So really Gwen surely knew something, or many things, which were useful.
"Perhaps. If it's something you like I'd say you should go ahead and peruse it. Never go in to something you don't like or do something simply because you have knowledge in it. Do something you enjoy. I work with jewelry because I enjoy it, not because of how much I know - that's what college is for. I didn't know this much before hand." And she still didn't know everything. She never could. There was simply an untold amount to be known, about everything really. That's why people still made breakthroughs all the time and in all kinds of fields.
While her own gift was wrapped she focused on Gwen. "It's nothing. I do this every day for people. It's nothing different than being at work. I'm just doing it another place and I'm good at helping people." A small smile crossed her features, she really wasn't big on smiles, and she turned as he wrapped gift was placed before her. This was when she was checked out and she handed over the money she had in her wallet. She had ten dollars in change coming to her and so waited. The money went into her wallet which went into her bag along with the wrapped gift.
"Do you have a cell phone? I'll give you the address for where I work and the number so you can come in while I'm on shift. I'll help you shop for your girlfriend as well." She ignored the dirty look the sales associate was giving her, likely didn't fancy having business being pulled from here and right from under her nose. But there wasn't anything she could do, and Winterlynn wasn't in the business of caring either. It was about the customer and Gwen wanted for a girlfriend who was Indian, which meant high karat gold and she didn't see that here. Not to mention that Gwen was her customer as far as Winterlynn was concerned, which meant all others were to back off. They'd easily find out that the nickname of Winter fit her so nicely. Good? And I think one or two more posts can finish this?

Gwen listened to Winterlynn with undivided attention, like a child listening to her mother or someone she looked up to when they were spouting sacred words of wisdom. Why couldn't Maddy be this understanding, this wise, for Gwen to talk to about things and seek advise, without feeling like she's being talked down to? Perhaps it was really no fault in Maddy, but Gwen was simply too annoying and thick-headed, making any attempt to give her advice utterly frustrating and pointless? Still, Gwen couldn't help but admire Winterlynn, more than happy she had mistook her for someone else this day. What luck! The thought of Gwen ever attending college was simply not a plausible possibility for her. Given her poor attendance and even more piss poor grades, college was never going to happen, but it was nothing to bother Winterlynn about. Gwen gave a nod, taking her advice and storing it for later. She was sixteen, and involved in a war... she could worry about what she wanted to do with her future later, perhaps after the war was won. If that could ever happen. For now, she'd simply have to focus on the present, and getting a perfect present for Anandi... She pulled out her cellphone upon Winterlynn's suggestion, almost fumbling and grabbing for the Senshi one but just managing to correct her mistake before she whipped it out for Winterlynn and everyone else to see. Unaware of the dirty look from the sales associate, she flipped her phone open and handed it to Winterlynn. "Here, you type it in. If there's one thing I learned from Maddy it's that a pretty lady should never announce their phone number in public!" She gave a shrug and then added in, softly, "Not that she ever told -me- that... apparently I'm not a pretty lady." It was meant to be taken as a joke, but Gwen thought little of the consequences or how else it might have been taken. She certainly didn't want Winterlynn to think she was trying to flirt with her, but instead giving her a compliment. She wore a big, bright, stupid smile, hoping that'd be more than enough for her intentions to be clear.

Winterlynn had done well in high school, and the earlier grades as well. With her ability to memorize things, some might say her ability wasn't such a good thing, it was no wonder she'd done well in exams and even quizzes that had no warning till you sat down for class. Winter just had an ability for memorizing things. While writing down notes she would whisper everything over and over again to herself till it sunk in and stayed. It was what she did even now with work and college. Her parents had expected her to attend college, not like she didn't expect it of herself anyway. They just hadn't figured what she'd go to college for - at least not till she'd told them her ideas. She'd thought of gemology or literature and maybe become a writer. She'd seen so many movies, so many plots, that the idea of trying to write something new, or maybe less cliche, had attracted her for a good many years. It still attracted her but not as much now as it had while in high school doing all those reading assignments and watching all the movies she did, and still watched.
Taking the offered cell phone she typed in her address and then her cell phone number, just in case the girl needed to get in touch with her. "In case you need me." She said while offering the phone back to Gwen. "I've added my own cell phone number."
She let the comment about her sister, and her sister not saying she was pretty, slip. What could Winterlynn say to that? She didn't want to touch that and say something, it was one of those things where finding what to say without coming off wrong was hard, she wasn't about to come off as thinking the other girl was pretty. That could come out wrong and uncomfortable.
"I'll see you when you come to the store." Saying this with a slight nodding of her head. Her gift, wrapped and in bag were finally handed to her. The handles of the bag slipped over her hand so the bag hung off her wrist nicely."Until then I wish you the best."

Gwen was pleased that Winterlynn was so willing to exchange numbers, though she still couldn't sense any possible hostility or tension from the sales associate herself. She was going to get Anandi the perfect gift and she was certain that Winterlynn would be the only one, besides Anandi herself, that could help her. She graciously accepted her phone back and rewarded her friend with a beaming smile. "Thank you so much for everything Winterlynn! I'll definitely swing soon!" She didn't want to linger around here for too much longer. The sheer amount of people in this store was beginning to bother her, and for some reason, she had a compulsion to run home, singing "I won the golden ticket" as she did so, complete with an orchestra but hopefully without tripping and hurting her knee along the way. Maybe that's just how excited she was today... She accepted her phone back, and she gave the older girl a wave, almost hitting the person next to her but just avoiding it. "Until then, have a Merry Christmas! Or whatever holiday you may celebrate!" And with that, Gwen spun around and left, bowing her thanks to the sales associate as well and making her way to the door, trying to take advantage of her small size to maneuver through the store and streets without bumping into anyone. What did she care? At least she had the perfect gift for Maddy- she'd have to remember to tell her this story on Christmas day, on how her doppleganger of sorts ended up saving Christmas! Sleet Tempest Snape Consider this an end on my end! ^_^ It was fun!
