"I don't think she's big and bad. She was like, well I thought she was like me. A nasty opportunistic b***h. It was meant to be primal, was meant to be direct. We could scheme and s**t against each other but that wasn't the point, when you scheme you can't like sink your nails into the other person. You don't hurt them directly." he waved a hand vaguely. "It wasn't a battle of wits, it was like a battle of natures."
He didn't think it was down to tiredness, it couldn't be, anger and hate didn't care how physically worn out you were. "That can't be it. It wasn't like, sexual. That wasn't what it was about and like, tiredness wouldn't have stopped it, it ran deep. Or I thought it did. Like right down to the heart of all things."
There was a moment where he relaxed, looking pretty tired himself, and not quite as tall or as imposing as he normally did. "And it is ******** stressful, it always is. But she could handle it, I thought she could because like I say, I thought she was like me. And I survive it just fine." Even if he had to sometimes just go and lie down in a quiet room alone, even if he had to spend a lot of his time away from people just to cope.
"All ******** logical as usual though with your solutions. It sounds so easy when you put it like that, just find another outlet. Simple. What other outlets are there? Training? I do it as much as my body can handle already. Sex? Likewise. Hobbies don't do it either, its always there, snarling and prowling and building until I snap and everything goes wrong. If there was another way out, I'd take it."
He heaved a sigh. "And I dunno if that was so much giving as just. Advice. Still like a therapist."

"I guess you were wrong. She isn't like you if she can just throw in the towel. Whatever made it fun for her isn't fun anymore, and it seems to be different than what made it exciting for you. If you say she's done, well, you really have to figure out what you have to do next. Unless she changes her mind and just thinks she's done. To take a knife to your pillow, well, she seems psycho enough to maybe pick the game back up again. I wouldn't count on it too much though." He wasn't about to tell Rep to be hopeful. As it was, he just had to deal with what was going on.
"Maybe your lead can give you something to do until she decides she wants to play again or you find something else to do." There really wasn't much else he could say. He was getting a headache about something more important than Rep's battle of natures dilemma."Your all about surviving. Surviving anger. Surviving frustration. You need to deal with it and have a handle on it. Surviving isn't as good as you make it sound."
massaging his eyes under his goggles, he breathed out. "I don't sound like a therapist. You just said that you wanted me to tell you what I would do as comparison. I just did that." What the hell did Rep really want in this whole giving conversation. He did just what he said! He spoke normally!

He shook his head in resignation. He knew Melvin wouldn't figure out what he wanted or understand what he meant. He just got all the more frustrated at the obvious. He knew she was done, he knew it was over, he didn't need to keep hearing it, it only made it worse. His potential plans of action were clear to him, but that didn't help the anger and rage, it didn't ease the hurt that left him wanting to escape from it all.
He curled a lip in disgust at the idea of bringing something pure like Allan into his broken nature, and only got irritable at the perceived tone of Melvin's lecture "Survival's just a hard habit to break."
Setting his lips into a thin line, he looked unimpressed at Melvin, the guy said he was trying, he didn't entirely buy it. "I appreciate that, but its still not exactly personal." He shrugged. "Never mind." He gave the blonde man an even look. "I'm probably keeping you from like, your work."

Done massaging his eyes, he dropped his hand when his work was mentioned. "Oh that. Not exactly research breaking stuff." He was just running a few tests, all of which could be postponed for a break. He'd been the lab for several hours anyways. It was probably time to make a coffee run.
"I can't exactly be personal with this. I've never kept a knife around to stab someone with. You may think I'm smart, but I can't exactly dodge cops and forensics. I don't think I'd do well in jail either." He wasn't strong, thuggish, and he spent too long in the showers. It couldn't end well for him in such a place.
"I'm trying, okay?" Rep and Melvin were on the opposite side of the playground world. He beat up, Melvin avoided getting beat up. They were different games.

"I think you'd probably do real well in jail." he crooned, not able to help himself, the jibe in itself a fleeting break from the front of hostility he'd been levelling at the other man. "But okay, in all seriousness this isn't personal to you, but like, there's other s**t I've spoken to you about and you don't tell me anything ever."
He felt exhausted and stressed and just wanted some kind of emotional warmth, some kind of human connection, and knew that he really wouldn't get that from Melvin. The man wasn't a robot, but he kept himself very closed. He wasn't good at questions, Melvin was. It just ended up feeling imbalanced, like he was being used.
"Okay, you are trying. But so am I. I'm going to run out of s**t to tell you in the hope you maybe one day tell me something about you. I mean. You know all about my ******** friends, relationships, my problems. I don't even know if you have any other friends than me and maybe Rin, I don't even know if you are ******** into guys or bitches or if you just like minipets." he smirked toothily, the statement serious but not able to help himself with the teasing. "But whatever, that's fine. I don't need to know, why should I? It's just nosiness."

Melvin pressed his lips thing about the comment about jail. They both knew how well it would go for the Lifer in prison. There really was no need to elaborate.
At Rep's persistence, he knew that Rep would wind up either clamming up or not speaking to him again if he kept up like - whatever Rep felt he was doing.
Crossing his arms, he looked around before looking at him. "I don't gossip about what you told me to others. Can you promise not to do the same? I don't want to hear you saying s**t about me on Twitter."

"In case you've not noticed. I only really talk about myself." He gave the other man a level look. "I mean how much do you know about Jordan, Ace or Rin that you learned from me?"

Melvin regarded that statement. As much as Rep liked to blurt out everything about himself, he knew little about the people he knew. In a way, he was a very private man.
Sighing, he looked to the side. "I like men and women of a particular type. Not all men. Not all women. I have a very high set of standards, one being the type that doesn't run their mouths." The last bit was spoken with a bit of venom. He then looked back to Rep. "Happy?"

Rep quirked a brow in surprise. Could it actually be that Melvin had managed to tell him something? Something that wasn't evasive, a fact or a question. "Really?" He hadn't been sure what he thought about Melvin, maybe that he wasn't into anything, he was so entirely closed off. Insight into even this much was riveting and had him by the curiosity. High standards though didn't surprise him in the slightest, he couldn't even begin to imagine someone who could fit Melvin's standards. Maybe a prim and perfect Victorian lady with a cleanliness obsession.
His smile was genuine. "Aye. Happier."
He tilted his head slightly. "I can't even imagine what your type would be."

Melvin shrugged. "Depends on the person and how they hold my interest. They can't be a human mess either. I don't like slobs, smokers, or fixer uppers for example." He didn't need someone who clung to him at every change, demanding they text him every moment, dying for even a scrap of attention every few seconds. There were also the people who wanted to change him, which was also annoying when he took notice. He had a list of all his dislikes and very few falling in what instantly attracted him.
His grip on his arms went a little tighter.

He couldn't help but grin and not in a mocking way either, a warmth in finally getting some return on all that he'd set on the line. He didn't intend to use the information either, it was just the joy of knowing, just the simple fact of trust however small. "I don't ******** blame you. I bet smokers taste like a ******** ashtray, and who the ******** wants a project." He'd made a point of never kissing the whores he was with, it was bad enough he had to maintain appearances, he hadn't been willing to invest more than he had to.
"I don't think I ever had a type. I don't know if I do now other than blonde." he shrugged. "I guess I needed people who gave s**t back but didn't demand anything of me."
Eyeing Melvin lazily he added with an edge of sympathy. "I guess you are s**t out of luck on the island if you need non-gossips who aren't ******** mental or a slob." Because, clearly he'd managed to hook the only two guys who met those criteria and he was yet to be convinced there was a single available woman who met them either.

"I already figured I wasn't messing around on this island. It's too much of a closed community. I'll wait till portals get back up." Then he could get what he needed. The rest of the people on the island were crazy as hell and had a mess of problems he didn't want to go about fixing up just for the sake of getting them in bed. They would disappointed him in the end. They'd either talk their mouth off to a friend or they would find something wrong with him that didn't fit their perfect image. It was too stressful to deal with.
"It's not like I plan on getting married." They were hunters. Dying was pretty much a constant concern. He couldn't worry about two people.
Okay. They were...they were done with this little moment. He was done to be more precise. "You're not going to go off and send everyone to the Infirmary now that Sasha gave up, are you?"

"I wasn't going to get involved here. That went down well. But I guess I'm not good at like, controlling my own life. You seem like you have s**t well in hand." It was still a pleasant insight into Melvin, human like everyone else, just very considered and wary of what he let people know.
At the mention of marriage though there was an anxious twist in his gut. Yes. Marriage was stupid. Absolutely. Why would anyone want to do that?
"I dunno. Maybe. If they earn it." he wasn't being entirely serious, that smile returning to his features. He felt better. For the time being at least, somehow Melvin had managed to cheer him up. "I didn't send most of those people there intentionally you know. I mean it's cooler to assume I did, but I didn't. Tracey just got really ******** strong really ******** fast."

"I'm still a trainee dealing with being on a island full of hunters killing a wide variety of monsters. I'm handling my s**t as well as I can." Which was really starting to get harder and harder each day. It was getting to the point where it was hard to sleep.
Rep was smiling when marriage came up. Hmm. Guess he wasn't the type to be against it. "You're smiling. You want to get married, don't you?"

"You are handling it pretty well. Probably not too long till you aren't a trainee any longer either, you've survived long enough man." Whatever else he'd been meaning to say died in the wake of Melvin's accusation.
He sputtered and went from wide eyed shock to the most haughty and ridiculous levels of indignation. "I wasn't ******** smiling about that! Can't a guy ******** smile any more without being accused of... of ..like.. ******** wanting to get married? I mean really, do I look to you like the kind of guy who would even consider that s**t?"
Crossing his arms his emotions seemed to reign themselves in to standoffish irritation. "Not like guys even ******** can anyway."
