Jordan stared at the little pile of fragments, one corner of his mouth pulling up in a humorless smile. "Hell, I thought it might be kind of a good thing. A way to work off aggressions. But I guess not."

He leaned back in his chair and pinched the bridge of his nose tiredly. "I know he's got problems, but - well, I care about him, yeah." He nodded to Wash. "I understand. Much as I didn't really want to hear that, it's something that needs to be dealt with." His chest ached and his stomach roiled. He'd been hungry, but his appetite was gone now.

It's not good to pretend you don't know that something is wrong, Ferros said, very quietly.

I know. I know.

"Yeah," Wash intoned sadly. Dealt with. He hoped Jordan could really do something. Anything.

"Well..." He gestured at the pile of porcelain chips. "Can I get you another cup? 'Least I can do."

"Okay. Thanks. I'll finish getting this cleaned up." Jordan got up, scooping the broken mug and the napkins into one hand. He looked up and studied Wash for a moment; he wanted to like the guy, but right now, things were strained and awkward. He suppressed a flash of irritation; why couldn't he just have a simple friendship uncomplicated by other things for once?

Wash got up out of his chair and made his way to the machine. It was kind of a relief- getting this off his chest, getting the conversation over with. Bittersweet. For while he now felt much more confident that Sasha would be okay, he'd drawn a line in the sand by approaching Jordan with it.

He somehow didn't think Rep would appreciate him being so forward.

He filled a new mug, and called over his shoulder, "Sugar or cream?"

What would be, would be.

"Nope," Jordan called back. He deposited the fragments of the mug in a trash can, brushed his hands off, and went to grab a piece of toast. He wasn't hungry, but if he didn't eat, he'd be sorry later. "Just coffee, thanks."

Rep likes his sugar with some coffee in it - not a good time for that joke.

"Okay." Wash brought the now-brimming coffee back to the table. There'd been just enough left for one more cup, and it steamed faintly. He slid it across the table to where the other hunter'd been sitting, resuming his seat.

"Well," he began, glancing into his own mostly full cup, "How've you been, besides, well. You know." He shrugged his shoulders. No need to bring that up again. He frowned, and added, "your hand okay, man?" Porcelain was sharp, and after Rep's incident at Thanksgiving...

What an odd symmetry.

"Thanks. I appreciate it." Jordan picked up the new cup, holding it by the handle, and sipped, letting the coffee soothe his nerves a little. "Been pretty good. Researching some things. Ferros surprised me with a new charge the other day." Yep. Subject changes were awesome things.

He hadn't really paid attention to the state of his hand, and when he looked, he found that the shards of the broken mug had drawn angry red lines across his palm and fingers. The deepest one had already stopped bleeding. "Yeah, all good. Ferros says he'll have it fixed up in five minutes."

"Ah, good." Research, well, he knew Sasha did a lot of that, but it was probably best not to bring it up. Stick to something safe. "Man, I can't get over how amazin' this FEAR healin' stuff is. Healin' with fear, seems kinna backward don't it?" He took another gulp of his chilly beverage. "What's 'is new charge, if you don't mind me askin'?"

"Makes sense to me. Since the weapons are bonded to us, with their Fear woven through our bodies, they can accelerate the healing process," Jordan pointed out. He sipped his coffee again. They could ignore the elephant in the room for the moment. "Actually, it's a healing charge. He releases a cloud of steam that wraps around someone and repairs their shield. Surprised me - his other charge is a fireball."

"Ha - yeah, Sally's is, well, an electric shock, sorta. I guess it makes sense, she's kinna a ghost and that has t'do with energy left behind, right?"

Wash, your grasp of science has never been less impressive than now. Sally sighed across his mind, and he grinned.

"I never really understood how it all worked," he waved a hand, "might as well be magic t' me." Wash smiled, an easygoing expression finally wiping away the last of the frown lines. Things would be handled. Dealt with. Maybe he could relax. "A healing hammer. You could be that, what was that guy? From that one movie." He paused, thinking.

"Oh, yeah, Thor." He sighed. "Man, I miss havin' TV. I think we could all save ourselves a lot 'a trouble if we had somethin' better to do than pickin' at each other." He glanced down at his cup. No, it was way too cold to keep drinking it. He pushed it aside.

"Anyway. Uh. It was nice talkin' to you, Jordan. I really do 'ope next time it'll be somethin' more pleasant; you seem like a nice guy. I know Jerry's spoke well o' you."

"Huh. B0nez has electricity too," Jordan said. "Harrison's weapon. He was a ghost too." He laughed a little, managing to relax a tiny bit. "I don't think I'd make a very good Thor. Not Norse enough."

He nodded. "Things will get better when the portals are up again." As Wash got up, Jordan offered him a small smile. "Thanks. I'm glad of that. I hope we can talk over something less stressful sometime."

"Yeah, I 'ope so too. Until next time." He dropped his mug off where the dishes went, giving the other hunter a little wave as he left. That went... Well. He was almost in a good mood again.

Maybe things would start to look up. Hope sprung eternal.
