Louder than words
#001 - Child

It was around noon when Giovanni de’Corvus and his daughter Anastasia had made it to the Cemetery that he had been asked to go to a couple days prior. With the sun high in the sky, the Angel meta had his sunglasses on as he walked through the tombstones towards the Mausoleum that was said to hold a ‘bad spirit’, though so far, the bird-based male couldn’t sense anything. Looking around, he took the staff that he was carrying and placed one end of it firmly on the ground when he was about 20~30 feet from the building in question with Anastasia hiding behind him and peering out every so often. The girl was scared, but she wouldn’t run. She kept telling herself that she mustn’t run away, and she didn’t.

Clearing his throat, Giovanni closed his eyes before spreading his wings as he called forth several of the dead from their coffins and urns buried deep in the ground, some of them moaning and groaning while others seemed to just smile at him. Opening his eyes, he allowed his illusions to take hold of the spirits so he could see a more physical form of them, something more like a faint shadow than something only he could see. “Good afternoon, spirits. I have a question to ask you.” Giovanni stated simply, looking at the small gaggle of spirits looking at him oddly, married couple looking at him gleefully, making it clear that they had not known of the Academy and of its work, bringing back Angels, Demons, Fae and Ghosts. One of the spirits who looked gruff, like he was a warrior from the old times, hovered forward and bowed his head slightly, knowing quite quickly from what the Angel held in his hand that he was only here and able to talk because of him. “I have been called here to look into something about the area. I’ve gotten some complaints from the living that there’s a… intimidating aura coming from this area and they have a feeling that it’s from a bad spirit or from something that they can’t see. I called you here to ask if you may know of anything, with your eyes from below as you stay here, stuck to our realm.”

A lot of the spirits spoke up all at once, mumbling, rambling, and even shouting at him. Giovanni sighed, shaking his head and looking back at Anastasia and nodding at her. The ghostling looked up at her father and nodded back, bringing her hands together and forming a small triangle with her fingers as she used her Quiescent ability, creating a small bubble of ‘calm’ to envelop the immediate area and with the help of the Adults powers, calm the spirits. The one spirit who had nodded before lurched forward again, glancing back at the Mausoleum where the shadow was peering out from, small minor illusions starting to form and break like a wave. “I will tell you what is going on here, if you can help the spirits who are stuck here to be free. I myself am willing to stay to keep watch on this land like I have for many years if you will give them that solace.” The soldier stated, standing upright like he was addressing a commander or someone of a higher rank. The Angel nodded and glanced to the mausoleum, noticing the tail end of the illusions as the Shadow sunk deeper into the stone building, “Alright. I can do that, it will just take some time to release all of your earthly bonds… some of you are stuck here stronger than what I usually see… but please, do tell me what has been giving the living the creeps.” Giovanni smiled.

The soldier spirit nodded and seemed to close his eyes, “On the eve of the quarter moon, a girl, a shadow, paler than the girl at your leg, came through the shadows and made the building her home. Pale as a ghost, hair as dark as the night sky. I see no reason why she would give anyone what you call the ‘creeps’, but she definitely was not a human.” He stated before opening his eyes and starting to float back down to where he was laid to rest, “Just keep your promise, Angel. I have kept mine.”

With a sigh, Giovanni released the illusions that kept the spirits there, rubbing the back of his head and looking to Anastasia, who was still scared. Gripping her father’s pant leg, she looked up at him and whined slightly. “Ana, sweetie, calm down, there’s nothing here that’s going to hurt you. The thing in the Mausoleum is probably a ghost meta…” He cooed slightly as he smoothed the girls hair down, kissing her forehead, “She probably has a reason to have come here.. let’s find it out, okay? Just stay behind me.” The ghostling nodded, though as the Adult started to move, she stayed stuck where she was, horrified to move. “P-pappa, I don’t wanna go closer.” Anastasia whined slightly, staring at the mausoleum in fright.

“Just stay there, then.” Giovanni smiled, walking back and letting her hold the staff he had used to call the spirits with.

Walking towards the Mausoleum again, the Shadow was seen for a couple of seconds before she managed to block out the door with her own illusions, which were quickly broken as the Adult used his own, two thick arm like illusions rushed forward and broke the illusory shield guarding the girl, his own arms changing to mimic the black shadows that helped form the innards of the ‘tricks’. Reaching up, Giovanni quickly grabbed the Shadow girl with the illusory arms, dragging her out of the building kicking and screaming. “Let me go, LET ME GO!” Skuld screeched in a high pitched voice, trying to get out of the shadowy grasp. “Let me go, I don’t want to go back to the Academy! I don’t want to go back there yet, don’t make me go back!” she screeched again, the arms slowly putting her down so her feet were firmly on the ground.

Giovanni walked over and looked the girl over, sighing; he released her but quickly grabbed her shoulders, making it impossible for her to run. “Why are you here?” He asked softly, kneeling down to look into her dull gray eyes, his own gold ones hidden behind his sunglasses. The girl bit her bottom lip in refusal to speak, though another voice caused both the girl and the Angel to look over at the ghostling girl who was several feet away. “She… she was taken back to the Academy, dropped off like I was.” Anastasia said quickly, still mildly terrified of the Shadow, clearly shaking as she gripped the staff like it was her lifeline.

Anastasia gulped, looking at Skuld, “You’re… you said your family brought you back because something was wrong with your head, right?” she asked, taking slow steps towards her father and the strange shadow. The shadow girl just stared at the ghostling in confusion, wondering when she got out. They were both returned at roughly the same time, did she get adopted by the winged man? The voices in her head were too loud, causing her to bring her hands to her ears in a lame attempt to get them to quiet, but it never worked. “Shut up, shut up! I left because Tendren is a stupid man and never showed his face! He told the idiots who left me that he’d take care of me but I only saw him that day. They left me because I wasn’t like them, not because of you guys… shut up Michael, shut up! Shut up, shut up SHUT UP!” Skuld shouted, soon falling to her knees and bringing Giovanni with her, though it wasn’t his hug that got the girl to stop shaking, it was Anastasias touch, her calming touch.

“I just want a home.” Skuld begged, looking up at Giovanni with tears in her eyes. With a sigh, the Angel held her close, “You can come home with us.” He whispered.

Blackstar
#002 - Child

It seems..that even though I have caused a fuss, I have been adopted by a man who seems intent on keeping me, unlike those who originally had me. I also have a sister, a fellow ghost, who is rather kind and compassionate. I might like it here.

Against the tide
#003 - Child

Today, a letter came in the mail stating that something is going on within the community around the Academy. Father didn't tell us right away what it was, but after bugging him enough he told me that murders were going on around the city and the police had yet to find out who was doing it, so we have to be careful. I love the dead, they're pretty talkative sometimes and they often get the voices to quiet down enough. It's....actually nice when that happens. Having seven voices in your head isn't fun. Father also said he is going to look around the city to see if there's a way to quiet the voices down.

I wonder if the humans are going to point fingers at us for whats going on. I know that's another reason why my original family didn't want someone who was screwed up mentally.

Gift for you
#004 - Child

My father gave me some pills after taking me to a doctor who had me talk about the things I hear and he told me to tell him if anything changes. Something has changed.. Michael, Gabriel, Raphael... they're all gone, all seven of them...they've been replaced by someone who calls themselves Branimir...

I told my Father about how the main voices went away, but Branimir says I should tell him about it - it being Branimir. I'm not sure what to do, but it is nice to not have my mind cluttered with seven voices that aren't my own.

Through the Gates
#005 - Child

ShinyObsessed
Evelyn was very excited to hear that Skuld, the room mate she knew next to nothing about was arriving today. She'd cleaned Skuld's side of the room within an inch of its life and even made some cookies to share in hopes of making a good impression.

She was sitting at her desk quietly working on her sewing machine while keeping an eye on the door. She had a dress that she was working on for her little sister and it was simple enough to be put down at a moment's notice, while being interesting enough to help keep her mind off the immanent arrival.

Kinesthetic Muse
Skuld had finally convinced her father that she should live at the dorms, under the guise that if anything was really wrong with her along the lines of what Giovanni had been worried about that the Elders would be more equipped to deal with it than he was, as long as she visited on the weekends, which was just fine with her.

Knocking on the door, the Shadow waited a couple of seconds before opening the door and speaking, "I'm coming in - I was told I had a room mate?" she asked though as she saw the side of the room closest to the door she squinted slightly. The closest side of the room to the door was worse than her sisters side of the room at home, bright and always screaming with 'happy' colors.

Tained
#006 - Child

It had been a handful of weeks since Skuld had come to her dorm room with Evelyn, the sunshine and rainbows teen that she had grown accustomed to her brightness and colors, but the brightness of the other Meta was still a little too bright for her liking in the early morning sun which was peaking through the blinds of their shared room. Muttering to herself, the shadow covered her eyes with her pillow and laid still, waiting another hour before the other girl left the room so she was physically alone. Removing the pillow from her face, Skuld looked over to the now empty bed next to hers before looking up at the ceiling which had a poster replica of 'Starry Night' by Van Gogh, one of her favorite things to look at. It also lured out the voice in her head that was more welcoming than the original seven.
"Hey Branimir... if you are what you think you are, why don't you tell me more about yourself?" the shadow asked out loud as she continued to lay still on her bed before slowly bringing her hands up to rest under her head.

The voice sighed, its sigh sounding like eight different people before intertwining into one, deciding it might as well be best to tell it's host what it really was. Skuld was quite calm with having a second soul inside of her, but with the girl being baseline schizophrenic did help Branimir figure out how to start to introduce its self. 'I might as well start telling you my story, but if you know much about the other species and the war it will be easier.' the voice seemed to sigh again, but it also seemed jittery, as if curious to know if the shadow - a ghost - knew of the war.

Skuld shook her head, closing her eyes as she spoke, "No, but I know that one happened.. they always vaguely tell us about the war but never really mention it unless we're interested in it. I know it's why the Metas were created... to bring back the species that were wiped out by the destruction." which was partially the truth. She hadn't bothered to ask about it much, but she had known more than the average child meta due to her interaction with the undead.

If the mane could have nodded, it would have. With another sigh, Branimir seemed to relax a little bit, 'What you know is true, though back then the hatred between the humans and the other races was much stronger and more malicious to the point that many of us had to hide our true selves or be careful with who we interacted with. There were many humans who disliked the thought of war and fighting, but the majority hated those who were different.' the mane paused, thinking about what to say next as Skuld laid on her bed, listening the entire time.

'Though in my case, when I landed after coming from my original home land I was attacked by humans who ripped off my wings and left me to die. Thankfully, the area I had landed and had been mauled in was one that had an acting troupe consisting of many races and species working together for a common goal. The production of art that anyone could enjoy.' Branimir seemed to smile, his tone happy. 'The troupe wasn't that big when I joined, but it grew and soon grew to be well known in that section of the world... and we managed to stay afloat as a safe haven and an escape from the world for humans and others alike as war erupted over the continent. It was a horrible thing to see, and within months of the war breaking out, our theater was in line to be destroyed by carpet bombing for that area. Those who could help stop it stepped forward to help keep the area from being destroyed and the peaceful souls from dying.' He paused, his voice becoming more unstable and sad, the voice of Gabriel showing through.

'We managed to keep a small section safe from destruction by the missiles... but when the troops came, they wanted everyone dead. I was in the back of the theater helping some children calm down after they found their mother dead and burning in their house earlier that day, human kids, but they still didn't deserve to see such a horrific scene.' Branimir paused again, not too surprised that Skuld was just listening to his story. 'But the troops attacked the theater...I told the kids to run as I ran for the troops to attack, but they outnumbered me, but I protected them. Those two kids and a handful of others managed to live and even though I lost my life back then, I'm grateful that those kids lived.'

Skuld smiled at the end of the story, happy that Branimir wasn't a malicious spirit, but a kind one, but she still found it odd that she had a spirit attached to her. "I do have one more question, Branimir. Were you..the original seven voices?" she asked softly, opening her eyes and staring at the poster again.

'Yes.. but it was because I wasn't sure what I was. I couldn't tell if I was sentient or not until you started interacting with me and asking questions and it triggered a legitimate train of thought in me.'

"But why seven?" The shadow asked, wondering why that many and had been wondering why she had seven different voices in addition to her own.

'Seven, for us angels, is a magical number. I also planted the names you gave them in your subconscious. Each voice was a role I played in the various plays I acted in when I was alive. Michael was a strong, tough and cocky warrior. Gabriel was a protector and much like my true self. Raphael was a healer, someone who would resemble your sister. Uriel an elder, wise and knowledgeable. Sealtiel an acolyte who was curious in other religions. Jequdiel was Sealtiels elder, a priest who wanted to be closer to god. Barachiel was one who knew all of the others, could be seen as a bard in many, one who invokes a muse to sing epics while still keeping power. All seven were I and I was all seven. But I am still me, an actor, a poet, a protector.. an Angel.'

Shopping List
#007 - Child

DraconicFeline
Zachary checked his wallet.
"I think we have enough." he said, smiling at his sister.
Despite what she had done, he still cared for her, and was determined to help her if he could.
"Come on." he said coaxingly.
They stood outside the grocery store. They needed food and supplies, and this was the place to get them.
"Do come on, Percy, it's not scary at all."

"What the ******** you stupid brat! She ain't scared at all!" blurted out Angry, glaring at Zachary through Percy's eyes.
He didn't hate the kid so much anymore- he was handy- but damn the kid could be dense.
He was, what, supposed to know her, like, really well, right?
Well s**t.
Then he went about saying bullshit like that!

Percy pulled Angry back into her mind and angry let her. Man, that had been stupid.

Zachary frowned, studying his sister.
This had happened before, when she would blurt out something that definitely wasn't her thing to say.
But he said nothing. Simply... observed.

"I'm not scared." she said quietly. She hadn't smiled since the incident, to be honest. She had had a stoic frown creasing her face.
It had been a trying week. She had had to figure out how to live with Zachary on her own, and how to live with what she had done.
She would have preferred just hiding in the shack she had found forever.
But Zachary had pointed out that they needed supplies.
"I'm just worried someone will see us and recognize us, is all."

"I bet they won't" Zachary said, smiling. He gently tugged on her arm and she, nonresisting, followed him in. They grabbed a supermarket cart and started rolling along the grocery aisle.
"Hmmm" Zachary said thoughtfully, eyeing the produce. "What do we need..."

Kinesthetic Muse
Skuld had been ushered along to the grocery store by her father and the newest voice in her head had agreed with him - seeing as Giovanni had stated that the girl needed more interaction with the outside world and less with her home to become more comfortable around people that she had to interact with. Which was honestly true; the girl had become quite comfortable sitting at home and watching the various shows and movies that came on throughout the day and picking up on little things here and there that would give away key moments later on in the show or movie; Her favorite one to do that with was the show called "Game of Thrones".

As the mute colored girl wandered alongside her colorful father, she stopped when she heard something out of the ordinary hub bub that she had heard while meandering through the aisle of the grocery store with the currently oblivious adult she was with. Looking up at Giovanni, she gave him a quick tap on the hand to get his attention, "Is it okay if I wander?" she asked quietly, getting a nod from her father, who reminded her to find him at the registers when a small black bird illusion appeared on her shoulder, knowing the girl wouldn't get into trouble like he did as a kid.

With a quick about-face turn, Skuld walked to the aisle they had just passed to find a girl and a boy talking, the girl was of earthy colors, like mud, who had wings like her father. She stood about 20 feet away before stopping, then walking a bit closer, not wanting to outright frighten the two, but her passive intimidation would quickly notify them of her presence.
