It was around noon when Giovanni de’Corvus and his daughter Anastasia had made it to the Cemetery that he had been asked to go to a couple days prior. With the sun high in the sky, the Angel meta had his sunglasses on as he walked through the tombstones towards the Mausoleum that was said to hold a ‘bad spirit’, though so far, the bird-based male couldn’t sense anything. Looking around, he took the staff that he was carrying and placed one end of it firmly on the ground when he was about 20~30 feet from the building in question with Anastasia hiding behind him and peering out every so often. The girl was scared, but she wouldn’t run. She kept telling herself that she mustn’t run away, and she didn’t.
Clearing his throat, Giovanni closed his eyes before spreading his wings as he called forth several of the dead from their coffins and urns buried deep in the ground, some of them moaning and groaning while others seemed to just smile at him. Opening his eyes, he allowed his illusions to take hold of the spirits so he could see a more physical form of them, something more like a faint shadow than something only he could see. “Good afternoon, spirits. I have a question to ask you.” Giovanni stated simply, looking at the small gaggle of spirits looking at him oddly, married couple looking at him gleefully, making it clear that they had not known of the Academy and of its work, bringing back Angels, Demons, Fae and Ghosts. One of the spirits who looked gruff, like he was a warrior from the old times, hovered forward and bowed his head slightly, knowing quite quickly from what the Angel held in his hand that he was only here and able to talk because of him. “I have been called here to look into something about the area. I’ve gotten some complaints from the living that there’s a… intimidating aura coming from this area and they have a feeling that it’s from a bad spirit or from something that they can’t see. I called you here to ask if you may know of anything, with your eyes from below as you stay here, stuck to our realm.”
A lot of the spirits spoke up all at once, mumbling, rambling, and even shouting at him. Giovanni sighed, shaking his head and looking back at Anastasia and nodding at her. The ghostling looked up at her father and nodded back, bringing her hands together and forming a small triangle with her fingers as she used her Quiescent ability, creating a small bubble of ‘calm’ to envelop the immediate area and with the help of the Adults powers, calm the spirits. The one spirit who had nodded before lurched forward again, glancing back at the Mausoleum where the shadow was peering out from, small minor illusions starting to form and break like a wave. “I will tell you what is going on here, if you can help the spirits who are stuck here to be free. I myself am willing to stay to keep watch on this land like I have for many years if you will give them that solace.” The soldier stated, standing upright like he was addressing a commander or someone of a higher rank. The Angel nodded and glanced to the mausoleum, noticing the tail end of the illusions as the Shadow sunk deeper into the stone building, “Alright. I can do that, it will just take some time to release all of your earthly bonds… some of you are stuck here stronger than what I usually see… but please, do tell me what has been giving the living the creeps.” Giovanni smiled.
The soldier spirit nodded and seemed to close his eyes, “On the eve of the quarter moon, a girl, a shadow, paler than the girl at your leg, came through the shadows and made the building her home. Pale as a ghost, hair as dark as the night sky. I see no reason why she would give anyone what you call the ‘creeps’, but she definitely was not a human.” He stated before opening his eyes and starting to float back down to where he was laid to rest, “Just keep your promise, Angel. I have kept mine.”
With a sigh, Giovanni released the illusions that kept the spirits there, rubbing the back of his head and looking to Anastasia, who was still scared. Gripping her father’s pant leg, she looked up at him and whined slightly. “Ana, sweetie, calm down, there’s nothing here that’s going to hurt you. The thing in the Mausoleum is probably a ghost meta…” He cooed slightly as he smoothed the girls hair down, kissing her forehead, “She probably has a reason to have come here.. let’s find it out, okay? Just stay behind me.” The ghostling nodded, though as the Adult started to move, she stayed stuck where she was, horrified to move. “P-pappa, I don’t wanna go closer.” Anastasia whined slightly, staring at the mausoleum in fright.
“Just stay there, then.” Giovanni smiled, walking back and letting her hold the staff he had used to call the spirits with.
Walking towards the Mausoleum again, the Shadow was seen for a couple of seconds before she managed to block out the door with her own illusions, which were quickly broken as the Adult used his own, two thick arm like illusions rushed forward and broke the illusory shield guarding the girl, his own arms changing to mimic the black shadows that helped form the innards of the ‘tricks’. Reaching up, Giovanni quickly grabbed the Shadow girl with the illusory arms, dragging her out of the building kicking and screaming. “Let me go, LET ME GO!” Skuld screeched in a high pitched voice, trying to get out of the shadowy grasp. “Let me go, I don’t want to go back to the Academy! I don’t want to go back there yet, don’t make me go back!” she screeched again, the arms slowly putting her down so her feet were firmly on the ground.
Giovanni walked over and looked the girl over, sighing; he released her but quickly grabbed her shoulders, making it impossible for her to run. “Why are you here?” He asked softly, kneeling down to look into her dull gray eyes, his own gold ones hidden behind his sunglasses. The girl bit her bottom lip in refusal to speak, though another voice caused both the girl and the Angel to look over at the ghostling girl who was several feet away. “She… she was taken back to the Academy, dropped off like I was.” Anastasia said quickly, still mildly terrified of the Shadow, clearly shaking as she gripped the staff like it was her lifeline.
Anastasia gulped, looking at Skuld, “You’re… you said your family brought you back because something was wrong with your head, right?” she asked, taking slow steps towards her father and the strange shadow. The shadow girl just stared at the ghostling in confusion, wondering when she got out. They were both returned at roughly the same time, did she get adopted by the winged man? The voices in her head were too loud, causing her to bring her hands to her ears in a lame attempt to get them to quiet, but it never worked. “Shut up, shut up! I left because Tendren is a stupid man and never showed his face! He told the idiots who left me that he’d take care of me but I only saw him that day. They left me because I wasn’t like them, not because of you guys… shut up Michael, shut up! Shut up, shut up SHUT UP!” Skuld shouted, soon falling to her knees and bringing Giovanni with her, though it wasn’t his hug that got the girl to stop shaking, it was Anastasias touch, her calming touch.
“I just want a home.” Skuld begged, looking up at Giovanni with tears in her eyes. With a sigh, the Angel held her close, “You can come home with us.” He whispered.
