Melvin left, going back to his room to freshin up, then he went to fill a medical tin with a runic bandage, grabbed some runic daggers, and a flashlight of his own. He headed over to the lighthouse, spotting Ofelia and walking in the room before glancing at the techs manning the portal.
The Lifer was wearing much of the same thing he always wore, but this time he wasn't wearing a scarf and his sweater was left in his room, leaving just a button up, collared shirt.

Jake didn't bother going anywhere, because well, HE WAS ALWAYS READY ok? He only patted his sash where his dagger was tucked snugly, and shrugged.
"I'm good."

Ofelia shrugged at the pair, not really having much else to say, and she stepped into the portal. She came out feeling a little damp, like a web of wet had been tossed onto her, but it wasn't all that bad. Just like waking back up at home or so she thought, and whatever.
"Okay, now. . . maybe spread out, be careful or sommin'? Hell, jus' dun get yerself killed fer the moment. Report back quickly if ya come 'cross sommin, call out all yer finds. If ya happen ta encounter the enemy do not engage on yer own, regroup." She coughed a bit against the temperature and cleared her throat. "That last bit is an order, which seems stupid comin' from me but Ah outrank ya an' am leadin' this mission so...jus' follow an' we won't have trouble, kay."
A wave of her hand sent her off and away from the pair to do her own looking around, and she started off into one of the pods closest to where they'd arrived. At first there was nothing, she heard nothing, but faintly there was. ...
"Music?" The question was vocalized rather than anything else, and the teen looked ujp and around. It seemed to be coming from above her, maybe from the pod directly above? Were there even soundspeakers added into this thing? It was unnerving, but not enough to make her panic and get the others. "Music, huh. Ya guys hear anythin' where yer at?" This time she did call out to the guys, her voice loud and clear against the music. It was foreign, she didn't know the words.
Granted Ofelia knew very few words outside of English anyway. . . .

When they arrived, Melvin turned on his flashlight and looked around. They weren't given much of a briefing by Ofelia, which lead Melvin to read the mission statement out loud - that is if Jake and Ofelia cared about details like where the hell they were going. Intel was vital after all. "San Zhi Resort. These pods were the rooms for the guests. Now abandoned. Reports from locals have said that lights have been turning on by themselves during late hours along with music." Melvin's voice echoed out in the empty, metal pods.
When Ofelia then established that she had rank and was going to lead his mission, he gave her all but a second to prove it. When she suggested they all but split up, to wandering out in the darkness, he decided that this leadership wasn't ideal. "I really don't think we should just be wandering off in all directions. We should stick close." Anything could happen hear after all, and he didn't want anyone getting lost.
While Ofelia did just walk off, Melvin stayed put, looking around the pod he was in before he too heard the music. He brought his flashlight to look up at the ceiling where the music was playing. "Should we go up one level and investigate?"

It was probably a good thing Melvin was on the team, because between Ofelia and Jake, the two seemed more likely to let the their actions speak for them, so they likely would have no idea what they were even looking for until they found it... IF they found it.
"Gee, that's so scary. I'm shaking here." They were on a mission to find out why lights flickered? He REALLY shouldn't of come. What a waste of his time.
He only rolled his eyes as Ofelia declared herself leader. Gee, great, rank. Last time he followed HER orders (or, well, more like she dragged him along), they ended up pissing Caelius off. So... yah. Screw that.
When she split off from the team though, he lit up. Oh HELL yes, finally. None of this stupid "stick in groups" stuff. Screw survival.
Melvin was left standing by himself as he wandered off, using Chester's summoned form as a flashlight because he was oh so prepared and never bothered bringing a flashlight. That, or he was just really eager to fight something.
He was going to write Ofelia and Melvin off as crazy when he started hearing it too, and stared up at the ceiling. Huh. "I hear it too."

The sound of music, or constant music that she couldn't find even as she followed it, was actually starting to bother the teen. The pods weren't very large, even if they were somewhat furnished, and the music that haunted her (even if the others could hear it) made her think she was in a troublesome place. It reminded her very, very much of the barn - the darkness and the voices in languages she couldn't understand, so the teen decided to bite the bullet and go back to being with the others. Clearing her throat she called out into the darkness, uncaring if something happened to hear her that wasn't just them. "Guys, regroup like Melvin suggested. These pods are too small fer us ta be able ta react in time should sommin' happen, an' . . .well, it's safer in numbers in the dark."
On the way back to the starting area (she'd managed to make enough sense to move something to mark her path) she encountered Jake, who'd seemingly wandered off on her order (good for him) and grabbed him by the arm. Asking him to come back with her would amount to him sassing the hell out of her which they didn't have time for.
The music was getting louder, even without a source, and the hand that wasn't on Jake's arm pulling him placed itself over her ear. "Please tell me ya can still hear the music comin' from somewhere. It sounds like it's from above, but Ah'm not sure. There ain't speakers or nothin'." Eventually she was back in the main room, her flashlight shining a beam on the dusty floor of the pod.
Small places, creepy music, dusty smells? Ofelia was pretty close to a flashback which was...rather dangerous for everyone.

Melvin remained where he was, acting like a base point for everyone to come to and regroup. His eyes looked up at the ceiling, but then he brought his flashlight around in case anything was coming. All he could hear was Ofelia coming from another pod and waited for her return. "They could have a faulty call system for each room, but we won't know if it's bad wiring or something else unless we go upstairs and check." He called back, before he heard a sound behind him.
Gasping, he turned about, his circle of light moving to the pod behind him, before he noticed the rusted red color of the room was now a rusted green. Confused, he looked back with the light to where there had been a door in front of him, and saw it wasn't there but to his right. "Guuuyyysss?" He called out, very confused and worried.
"I think the rooms are changing." He called. To Ofelia and Jake, Melvin was now above them and no longer directly ahead.

Brute force was definitely the way to make Jake comply, though of course it didn't necessarily mean he liked it. "Let go of me." he muttered, yanking his arm free when she got back to the main room.
He heard Melvin's voice, but didn't see him anywhere. "Where'd blondie go?"
Seeing that Ofelia was currently staring off into space, he took the opportunity to break away... and somehow ended up outside.
Ignoring Chester, he pressed on, until he heard a large CRACK... and another. Suddenly gas exploded up, engulfing him, and he struggled to breath.

Ofelia was about to punch Jake, more or less she actually moved to catch up to him and she reached to smack him on the back of the head, when a wave of clogging and coying smoke? filled the air. The teen backed up quickly, coughing all the while, and she covered her nose and mouth as she turned back to the pods. "Melvin! MELVIN!" Her call was practically a shriek as the smoke filled into her lungs, sending her looking around in a terrified manner, but something inside her head screamed at her to keep calm, to attack.
This was the enemy, this was what was causing everything, and there were two trainees with her who would be depending on her. Inside the voice seemed to speak again, chiding her for the panic, and Ofelia shook her head and did what she needed to do. Jake was grabbed and pulled back, Ofelia's hand on his elbow so quick that it was a tug and release (to prevent him from attacking her) and Rue was quickly summoned as something approached. The weapon was delighted, so delighted, to be summoned in such a place full of FEAR and Ofelia's own terror.
"Jake, get Chester." Her words were calm, even if she herself was not, and as something started towards them she prepped herself for an attack. She needed to wait for Melvin, they needed to be together, but she needed to make sure Jake was okay. As the higher trainee she could take the most damage, and do the most damage, and so the first attack was going to be on her. If she hit she knew what she could do to the beast, or whatever it was that was coming, and the pounding of her heart rushed her onward to strike.
The thing that approached was faceless and cruel, a mocking motion in a body warped over in death, and the teen showed no mercy as she got in a hit. The strike was true, Rue got her taste of FEAR, but something hit her back just as hard as she'd hit, if not a bit less only, and she screamed out in pain. It was mostly from the shock, she hadn't expected that, and the creature vanished just as sudden as it had appeared. "Jake, be careful. These things give as good as they get, an' unless yer able ta hit 'em hard yer gonna be in fer it. Wait fer Melvin ta get here, an' we'll plan it then. Fer now stay behind me - fer the love of god jus' listen ta me on that."
They needed Melvin here - it was safe in numbers if these things hit back and vanished after one strike. It was so clear they were still around, Rue was singing with her love of FEAR in the air.

Melvin was not a happy camper, and he could heard the shrieking for their supposed leader from down below. "Bunch of teenagers.." He grumbled, moving out of the pod and grabbing the rickety metal stairs to take down. "...I said not to split up but nnooooo..." He kept grumbling as he took the steps 2 and 3 at a time. "....don't listen to the older guy just because he's a trainee. It's not like he knows what the hell he's talking about...." He still kept muttering to himself as he hit the bottom floor, listening before he heard the others and headed out past the pods to the outside exit. "...didn't anyone watch Scooby Doo?" He huffed at last before bursting out of the doors.
On the lawn, he saw a mass of shadows all about, and he knew that if he didn't get in with the others now, he'd be trapped on the outside and easy pickings. Moving forward, he shot out, but the shapes dashed away from his pod. Still, it left him a path to the others and he slid up beside them. "Didn't I tell you! " Yup, Melvin was going to poke at poor leadership. "Splitting up is the stupidest thing!" He moved up close to them, gun at the ready. "Stupid kids."

Jake hadn't even noticed Ofelia was right behind him until he heard another set of coughs and her shrieking, supposedly calling blondie's name.
And then suddenly he was yanked and pulled back. "HEY!"
At her command to summon his weapon, Jake only scoffed. "No need to tell me twice," he muttered, blades already summoned. When she ordered him to stay behind her though, he only grit his teeth. Bossy a** woman. Just 'cuz she was an intermediate hunter didn't mean she had full authority over him. He would do whatever the hell he wanted.
Jake growled. Damn you Chester and your stupid voice of reasoning. And then blondie came crashing out of nowhere chiding the two of them for splitting up. It was bad enough getting backtalk from Ofelia, but now this moron too?
"If I remember correctly, you ended up wandering off yourself too, idiot." he muttered, raising the tonfas up to attack.
... Ugh. Defend. Right. He moved closer towards Ofie, the weapons raised up defensively. "Go and get another attack in. I'll cover you."

Ofelia really didn't need Melvin's little words, she was more than away she'd ******** up the moment she said split up - but there was no time now to take anything back. Perhaps her wanting to split was because they seemed to hate her a bit, not a stretch there, but even though she'd tried to come back Melvin was still basically calling her an idiot.
Now was the perfect time for her to totally get told she was useless, what with all the hallucinations going around from the smoke, and the teen just shook her head and watched as Jake stepped up to defend. He was. .. listening to her, sort of? It was hard to tell with him; either he was doing it because he'd seen two people get hit hard and he didn't want it or he was listening after all. Ofelia opted for the former over the latter - everything was going to be her fault on this - and the bracelet only slid on her wrist as another figure approached.
Jake was defending though, she didn't have a need to fear, and the teen stepped up and slashed at it. Maybe it laughed at her as it vanished, she couldn't tell any noise aside from the pounding of her own heart in her head. Rue's cackles and screams were oddly muted and that wasn't very welcome. There was nothing she could do though, Jake had taken most of the hit in defense, and her weapon had another charge.
If Jake wasn't listening to her of his own will then Melvin, who was calling her a stupid teen, sure as hell wouldn't so she just looked at him and shook her head before addressing the two others. "Do whatever the hell ya want from here, s'pretty obvious yer gonna anyway, jus' don't die." She could only imagine the write up on the report they were going to give, and seeing her track record with Caelius? She hoped she had two arms after this in the end.

Melvin glared as he moved to the pair of them, taking a spot to have his back to them and cover the side they weren't looking at. "Don't start, Ofelia. We are all ******** if we don't at least say what the hell we're all doing. I'm going to fire at this end." He aimed again, looking at the mass of swirling shadows before he saw they took on the shapes of people, their bodies looking emaciated like dried husks as their clawed hands and blank faces reached out to claw at him.
"Don't start, Jake. The entire room changed on me. I was right where I was when we left from the portal. YOU were the one that bolted." He told him, not that Ofelia hadn't just told them to run off and not die. Great plan. SUPER. This would go in his report.
Firing, he hit one square in the face. It jerked back, but not without letting another move in to lash against him, it's claws scrapping against his shield.
"Tell me when either of you have a charge." He had daggers and could throw them when they were ready.

Melvin only got a very rude look. "Bolted? Hell, I found the thing that we were looking for, didn't I? While you were playing twister with pod rooms."
Jake grunted as his tonfas blocked off another attack. "You're probably going to have to rely on redhead for fear attacks. Mine doesn't exactly dish out damage."
Heck, he couldn't even remember a time he had even successfully used it.

It was amazing that Jake was actually still defending her. Ofelia didn't want to think why, she was just more than thankful for the edge of the attacks, and she charged towards an upcoming wave of creatures that decided they wanted to come two at a time, not one. Each of her fists made good contact, the backlash only weak thanks to Jake's backup, and the weapon in her head let out a scream of delight as a charge was created.
"We're ready here, Rue an' me." There was no mistaking Ofelia was a powerhouse when it came to hitting, and there was also no mistake that she utterly failed as a leader. What was the be expected - she was a Sun after all, but that was beside the point. The runic torch that bounced at her hip would be used in the next go round, ready to take more damage down rather than get.
She might not be a good leader but she could follow orders and destroy whatever came her way quickly. Ofelia also let the boys bicker because children =/
