"Ah, sleigh rides and ice skating, yes, but none too willingly, I would say." Many of the ladies he knew would gladly accompany him on a wintry sleigh ride if he asked it of them, but few would do so without some sort of invitation or prodding, and certainly not simply for fun. The cold left blushes on their faces that were deemed unsightly. Or something to that effect, as far as Andrus knew.
"I don't imagine I have seen any ice sculptures here," he added, considering it. "An art of the north, perhaps. Or it could be that Belestranans simply know better how to take advantage of the winter months." No doubt a touch of art would lighten up a dull winter, for the months of cold were long and many spent the time in eager anticipation of the upcoming spring, when the snows would melt and ice would recede.
"Perhaps I will convince her one day." There was much and more his mother would concede to her sons, after all, and Laurina Kinross knew the charm of Andrus' smile better than most.

"A pity," she said, for it truly was. "I believe I shall have to rectify this grave error. A party is in order."
Already her mind was working out all of the details that she would need to sort out in order to stage her event. Sculptors, of course, were the most important ingredient, but she would also need cooks and servants and a location in which to showcase her party and so many other little things. These delicate Sunderlander ladies would no doubt protest the cold, but they would simply have to suffer through it, else miss what was sure to be the event of the season. Oh, yes. Never let it be said that Lady Anna Petrova would settle for anything below excellence.
A sly smile crossed her lips. "I trust you shall keep our little secret. It would not do to spoil the surprise before it had even begun."

"I don't believe many would think you remiss in throwing them a party," he said in agreement. Even those afraid of the cold would brave it for a party, especially if rumor had it that it was to be the season's crowning glory.
"Oh, for you, Lady Anna, I would keep any secret." Though no doubt they would reach a point when word would get out about the party in planning and when that happened, Andrus would gladly help fan the flame. No great party had ever been thrown without a good amount of anticipation beforehand, after all.
"These lords and ladies will no doubt appreciate the opportunity to see the art of Belastrana without having to travel so far." And others, of course, would take it upon themselves to chatter about bringing in foreign culture to overrun Palisade with the outside world. But they could hardly be taken too seriously.

"I am glad to see I have an ally in my little project," she said, and it was quite true. One got nowhere without allies, even in so trivial a thing as a party. Besides, a little common interest could always blossom into more. A friendship, perhaps. One had to start somewhere.
Something seemed to catch her eye on the other side of the room. "It has been a pleasure, my lord. I hope that we meet again soon. If you will excuse me," she curtsied and departed.
