“Gaah!” in a blink of the eye he went from the ground to airborne. He only had time to gasp before he swung bodily down to the ground with a thud. His momentum caused him to roll onto his back. A wave of jolting surprise hit him before the pain of the hard ground did.
"First Lesson: Use your opponent's momentum against them."
There it was. It echoed in his head like chords from a chamber organ. As he absorbed the information, her taunts were lost to his ears. Ganyma struggled to his feet and looked at Minist. She was all business. He took a deep breath and sidled around her, hesitant to make another stupid move. How was he supposed to use her momentum? Would she make a move?
This was no good! She didn’t even break a sweat. His arms and legs were tensed with anticipation as he recovered from the embarrassing sting of the first throw. As she goaded him on, it was clear he was to be on the offensive. He was close now. Another attempt – a shot straight at the legs to try and get her balance off, for a change.. Maybe his size would work against him for leverage.

Good, he was back up on his feet without complaint. He wasn't gonna sniffle over things, he was actually gonna work at it. Minist mentally applauded him. He was quick to go in for another attack and she soon found that a large kid barreling at your legs was not something to easily brush off. She tried to take a staggered step back, but was knocked over and found herself landing on her behind. Not to be outdone, Minist pressed her palms to the dirt and quickly swung her legs around and returned to a squatting position.
"Good going. Second Lesson: Don't leave an opening." she said as she brought her hands together and then swung them up before bringing them straight down, clobbering him right between the shoulder blades. Jumping up she slid around him before falling down on her side, pinning him under her rib cage. Propping herself up on her elbow she said, "You always got to be aware of all angles." She probably didn't need to drop her whole weight on top of him, but that was more fun. She had half a mind to just lay there and see how long it would take him to squirm out, but she figured that didn't make for good teaching. She was a good teacher! The best! Pushing herself off the ground by the arm she propped herself up on she balanced in a squatting position once more, watching him next to her. "Up and at 'em, Ganyma!"

Galaxa13 phone post! I will format these when I return! There will also probably be a significant drop in length :9 As Ganyma collided with the troll, the exhilarating rush of knocking her backwards filled his head. He rolled forward with his momentum and came to a stop in complete bewilderment, as he had not expected for his attack to be so effective. His knee touched the ground- time to redouble his-- Thwack! "Oof!" Lesson number two hurt a lot! The sting that initiated in his now-sore behind flushed through his back. He fell forward, catching himself on his knees and hands. The wind knocked out of him. He took a shaky breath, but no sooner than the first blow came, the second laid him out flat. "Hnnnngh!" He slapped the ground, struggling to escape her pin. Soon enough his reprieve came. Ganyma took a mighty gasp as the pressure was released. He slowly rose to a squat, mirroring hers. Her goading didn't fall upon deaf ears. Don't leave an opening... The troll took one last big breath, focusing his remaining energy, and suddenly launched himself into her midsection, aiming to fall on top of her. Elsewhere, Strochio removed himself from his hiding spot. He stretched his neck back around the corner he had been surveying the training scuffle from and emerged, walking with surprising stealth to the two. Ganyma certainly didn't notice - his charge was doing a pathetic, if not spirited job against his foe. Perhaps he would feed him more later, or disarm the traps in the hive for a week. The ostrich ruffled his tail feathers and sat down to watch the action.

After telling him to not be open to an assault she certainly wasn't going to let him tackle her so easily. As he charged at her Minist held up both hands and caught him by the shoulders, dropping to one knee to give herself a better base. She could keep him at bay fairly easily from this position and had no intentions on letting him charge through. She was just making up her mind about how she was going to smear him all over the ground when she caught movement out of the corner of her eye. Her attention wouldn't have been distracted from Ganyma had she not detected something rather large sitting nearby. Still keeping Ganyma away from her person she looked over at the lusus as he watched them with a rather stern expression.
"Yo, little dude, that your lusus over there?" she inquired before pushing his shoulders at opposing angles, turning him around, and shoving him away from her. Not enough to knock him over, of course, if that was his lusus she didn't want the thing to think she was trying to harm his charge. That was only half true. She didn't want the revenge of a lusus naturae on her head.

Blocked again. Ganyma grunted and struggled to run forward and continue his momentum-- with little success. He flailed in vain as she held his shoulders tight. Suddenly, he was whirled around, and soon after came to a choked halt. Ganyma was face to face with his lusus. His breath couldn't help but catch in his throat.
Strochio looked at the two at an angle, his gaze lidded and severe. He emitted a low hiss. Ganyma stumbled towards him. "Strochio! I...Uh... I was... She was showing me some moves?"
The ostrich got to his feet and shook out his tail feathers. He loomed over Ganyma, lowering his head and releasing a gruff bark.
"Sorry to keep you waiting," the troll mumbled, lowering his eye contact. He wiped some sweat from his brow onto his jersey. The ostrich looked expectantly at the child and then at Minist.
"Oh. Yeah, this... Minist, this is Strochio."

Minist warily watched the creature as it made unpleasant noises. The glint in his eyes as he stared down down his charge was a familiar one. It was the same one Ratmom had whenever she disapproved of her, which happened more often than she liked. However, the expression was a tad more frightening when delivered several feet above you. She didn't particularly enjoy the gaze being shifted towards her. Slowly rising to her feet she dust herself off and didn't take her eyes off the bird.
"Yo, Mr. Bird-man." she said, giving off a little salute. "Wasn't gonna steal his lunch money or anything, honest." she added with a laugh. Then she finally let her eyes fall back to Ganyma and she grinned. "Well, little dude, looks like we found your lusus. You think you can remember what I told you?"

Strochio stood completely still as Minist got to her feet. Finally, his tensed talons relaxed. His demeanor seemed unchanged, but it was a good sign. The lusus naturae gestured with a flourish of his head for his charge; the troll stepped obediently forward. Fortunately Minist's chatting was breaking up the silence-- the tension in the air was bowstring taut.
Ganyma scratched the back of his head hesitantly- it was a nervous tick of his to wipe and scratch. Right now the situation could go either way. Strochio relaxed his neck and made some clicking noises, which Ganyma responded well to. He remembered to breath, and went to put his hands on his hips before recoiling with the pain of his sore appendages. He settled on stuffing his hands in his pockets, and smiled bashfully up at Minist as his lusus began to turn away to depart.
"Yeah! Thanks for helping me find him!"
He scooted his feet idly in the dirt, memorizing the last few moments at her request. "I think I can remember them, yeah! I'll practice fightin' every day!"
Upon hearing this, the bird halted. He swiveled his head back to look at the two, particularly stopping on Minist with new intent. After scanning her form for a few long seconds, he emitted yet another shriek and a series of hisses into Ganyma's ear. It was clear as crystal to the troll.
Ganyma looked thrilled. He bounced up and down suddenly, pulling his hands from his pockets and throwing them into the air.
"Wow! Really?"
He looked up at Minist, his grey and orange eyes huge saucers. "Strochio likes you! If you're in the area you're welcome to stop by the hive!"
A pause. "An'...if you ever wanna keep teachin' me to fight... He likes that too! 'N so do I!"
In a moment of sudden inspiration, Ganyma clapped his heels together and bowed deeply. It hurt his aching back to do, but darn if it didn't feel great all the same! He could get used to this.
(No worries! I can't tell how long posts are on my tiny phone anyway. Looks long to me! Is my pacing okay, by the way? I hope it's not too rushed. This is my first time forum RPing with a sort of episodic overtone so I don't want to go crazy.)

With the bird seeming to deem her as no threat Minist relaxed a little. She continued to smile as Ganyma thanked her. It felt nice being being thanked even if she really hadn't done much in searching. Her attention was drawn back to the lusus as it halted and turned its gaze back on her. Warily she looked from it to Ganyma and back again. Ganyma was pleased by whatever the bird was meaning. She blinked in surprise when he gave her an open invitation. Well that was cool, she guessed? Was Stochio wanting her to be his personal trainer or something? Before she could dwell anymore on this thought, though, Ganyma was bowing to her. What in the world? Now Minist was starting to feel awkward. No one had ever bowed to her before. What do you do in this situation?
Feeling flustered she ran a hand through her hair. "Yeah, um, if I'm in the neighborhood again I guess I'll look you up, maybe teach you some other stuff, sure. I live out in Chittentown, so I guess if you're ever out that way you can drop by my place if you want some lessons, or something." she said. Looking down at Ganyma she smiled again. She reached out and tapped him on the head with her fist and said, "Next time you better not let me whoop your butt so bad." With a laugh she turned and walked off, waving in goodbye as she did. It was time she finally got started on all that stuff she was thinking of doing with the rest of her night. Ratmom would probably get a kick out of hearing how she had her own little student now.
(Naw, man, your pacing's fine!)

Ganyma smiled as he belatedly batted her fist away. "Yeah, yeah. Just you wait. I'll be strong as the champ next time you see me!" He flexed his little muscles, then looked at Strochio as he turned to leave.
"Can we go to Chittentown sometime, Strochio?"
A low shriek.
"I gotta walk there? Okay, okay. Once I'm stronger, I get it. Just more reason for me to train! Yipe!"
The troll had been pulled by the horn by his lusus, and was being dragged in the opposite direction. The ostrich seemed satisfied. More a**-kicking would be good for the kid. Even from a lowblood. Maybe especially from the lowblood. Make the kid less useless. Yes. For once he seemed excited about a training exercise.
Meanwhile, Ganyma was waving both arms goodbye and walking backwards. "Bye, Minist! It was good to meet you!" His permanent ear to ear grin was making his cheeks grow sore to match the rest of his body.
Ganyma joined Strochio, following his leggy stride. Home would be a ways away from the middle of the city; it was likely that the troll would collapse head first into his recuperacoon, no doubt. If he could even make it up the ladder to his respiteblock first.
It was a rare sight for the avian lusus naturae and his charge to walk peacefully side by side. As the two trekked back through the labyrinthine streets of New Hemisect under a fading moon, a hushed chant echoed from the child.
"Lesson one: use the opponent's momentum against them... Lesson two: don't leave an opening... Watch for angles... Opening... Angles..."
