Wilson winced as Gramps wheezed for him to use poisonous gas, but considering that gas had gotten them into this problem in the first place, he figured it was a smarter idea to just keep bashing whatever shadows came his way. “Woah—“ Ami pulled him away, but the sudden tug only made the hunter even more dizzy as he stumbled around. “Easy there,” he murmured. He tried to hold his head, but only managed to bump the cannons into his skull. Good job.
He shook his head to shake away the throbbing. “Holding up, yeah. How about you?” The hunter was still wobbling when he continued to swing his arms at the shadows.

Ami quickly waved her hands and stepped away from Wilson, giving him space. "Sorry, sorry!" she immediately apologized afterwards, feeling incredibly in the way.
She looked to Sasha and said, "Try to thin them out!" A cough interrupted her, but then she turned to Wilson and said, "I don't think your gas is very advantageous here ..."
A shot in the nothingness as she stumbled on a rock. This gas was horrid.

Ami had a valid point - the problem was being able to focus on any one thing.
"I think we're making progress," she grouched softly, sending Wilson a sideways glance. "I'm good. Nona's ready."
Sasha turned back to the swarming faces in the shadows, baring her teeth in a little grin. "We've got this. You okay, Ami?"
It was at that point that Sasha realized the other Life hunter wasn't using her weapon. Her brow furrowed. What had happened?

He held out a hand—and this time he was careful not to swing the cannon’s blades toward the Life hunter—and shook his head. “No, no. It’s fine! I’m good. I’m good.”
The hunter once again swung at the darkness. “Which is sort of why I’m not using it,” he noted truthfully before he took another shot at the figures.

Since she'd let go of Wilson's arm, Ami had all but completely lost control of her balance. Wobbling all over the place, she tried to steady herself, but it didn't help that her head was spinning. This gas was not doing wonders for her control of herself.
A tendril of darkness cracked like a whip, causing her to drop her gun in surprise. A second tendril whacked her other gun out of reach, and a third pushed her over into the ground.
"I'm fine!" she shouted as a reassurance. Ami was not fine, not with the way she was coughing. Her body completely rejected whatever this mist was made of.

Okay, good, everyone seemed to be fine. It was almost unbearable, the combination of the foggy mist with Nona's clamoring in her mind. The tips of the hooked blades screamed and sparked with energy, and Sasha wanted nothing more than to give Nona her charge.

And now he was clumsily stumbling around in an effort to regain his balance. "Ami?" Wilson called out. More stumbling until he finally shouted, "Alright, heads up!"
Gramps' wheeze-laughed as the hunter finally released a green cloud of poisonous gas.

Ami's head snapped in Sasha's direction as the girl cursed loudly into the area. Had Sasha ever cursed like that before in front of Ami? Certainly not. Sasha was the quiet type... wasn't she?
In the split second she payed attention to Sasha, she missed Wilson's warning to cover. Ami inhaled a mouthful of both the mysterious island gas and Wilson's more familiar, but still equally toxic gases.
The result was Ami bent over coughing and trying to keep herself from collapsing altogether. She completely wasted any opportunity to attack, too busy trying to sort the shadowy figures that danced around her, trying to attack their group from all sides.
All Ami could get out was, "Sasha!" and a finger pointed at the last figure Ami could see.

"I can't see anything," the dark-haired Lifer cried out, swinging madly. Even Nona grew more agitated by the two misses in a row.
"Can you tell how weakened we've got it?"

Then Wilson stopped and stared. "Oh wait, hey..."

Just like that, the gas and smoke were gone, as though it had never been there at all. The island seemed to sigh in relief as a cool breeze carried the noxious gas away on the wind.
Ami looked around, her chest still not quite functioning properly as it hadn't filtered out Wilson's gas yet. She took a moment to catch her breath, waiting on edge for another enemy, another gas leak.
When nothing came, she relaxed and said, "I ... think we found the source of the FEAR here." She pulled out her pendant and said, "Let's go home before anything else decides we look threatening, local or otherwise."
She recited the words, and without another sound she was pendant-ing back to Deus.
