All Ami heard was a loud crack from behind her. She turned swiftly, thinking Eva had snapped a twig, or thinking Lex had knocked something over. She didn't even have time to throw up a sleeve as the gas overtook her, pouring into the surrounding like a great wave crashing on the shore.
What she would've given to have Wilson with her. As her body threatened to turn itself inside out by coughing, something darted across her vision. A dark blurry figure that Eva was swatting at.
She fired a bullet into the area, her head swimming. Nothing was particularly registering, as Ami was trying to fight the utter silence. Silent like the dungeons. "Don't fall---- don't ... back," Ami garbled, shaking her head and trying to form sentences. Only one word came to mind. "Fight!." Somewhere in the nothingness, Eva was calling for her, but something hard and blunt hit her, and she slammed against the ground, one of her guns clattering a few feet away. "

Coughing and hacking as he ran to cover behind a tree, Lex pulled up his scarf like a face mask in a half successful attempt to keep more gas from getting into his system. Through teary eyes he shot at the abomination, hearing the satisfying sounds of metal recoiling against other metal, befroe another coughing fit hit him like a punch in the stomach.
Wait...that actually was a punch to the stomach? He looked down, seeing nothing. But...how had he?
He coughed more, cursing the beast. "Something just hit me." He told the others, jaw clenched and mirth completely gone. "Watch yourselves."

It was hard to see anything in this haze, but at the very least, she could still make out Ami and Lex's voices. Fight. Ami was right--they had to fight. It would be difficult to even try escaping while they were lost in this gaw cloud and while there was some kind of...creature lurching after them.
It wasn't long after Lex called out that someone had hit him that Eva heard something coming her way. She barely had time to register what was happening when she suddenly felt something plow into her, sending her falling to the ground. As she heard the thing trying to move away, she stumbled back onto her feet and swung Chara out, feeling the tip of the blade graze across something before it moved out of range.
"I...is there...only one?"

Ami stumbled to her feet, everything wobbling about ten times more than it should have. She fired from the gun she still had, bullets ringing out in the haziness.
She wasn't done yet.

The impromptu mask did it's job, keeping most of the gas out of the Lifer's mouth as he took aim at the creatures 'head.' Just as he pulled the trigger a cough leapt up from his throat, skewing his aim so that the bullet hit the thing in the shoulder.
Close enough, he thought with a grunt. Another wheeze and he called out in response to Eva "I'm not sure! Maybe it's just a -"
A blow to the face, and Lex was coughing on the ground, trying to keep his mask up and his wits about him. He was feeling drained already; like this thing was just sapping his shield away with each and every hit.
What was it, anyway? Formless things were buffeting he and the girls, but the baby doll thing never quit dragging itself forward. Was it somehow controlling the polluted air around them? That seemed feasible, at least.
"I think it's manipulating the air - making it solid and hitting us with it." He theorized to them, readjusting his scarf and taking aim again.

When she thought she saw something coming her way--something distinctively not human in shape, at least--Eva twirled her weapon around and brought the blunt end of the staff into whatever it was. Almost immediately after, all the air was knocked from her lungs when something slammed into her chest.
W-what? How...?
Perking up at Lex's theory, the young woman found herself grimacing. Controlling the air, huh? Yeah, that could be it. But in that case... "That...makes things a lot harder."

Ami crept along the ground, staying low and out of sight. Finally she reached her misplaced gun, and knelt down, picking it up off the ground. A blow hit her backside, right at the base of the neck and she screeched something entirely embarrassing.
Through the blur she could see Lex getting hit, directly in the face. Ami was no expert, but even she knew that couldn't have felt particularly nice.
She stumbled forward, actually running into him because her depth perception was all but gone. She blinked a few times, steadying herself, and then dug through her pockets, finding the runic bandages he'd told her to pack. "Here, here. Use these."

Taking the bandages from Ami with hesitation, Lex fumblingly applied the runic cloth to a cut on his face, giving Ami a light grin. "Thanks." He muttered, getting back up and getting her up onto her feet too.
"This thing...It hurts." He grumbled, staring off at the baby doll thing. No matter how much it kept crawling towards them, it never actually moved.
Wait...
"Eva! Keep attacking!" He shouted, squinting at the abomination. What if had been the gasses that had caused this, and they were hallucinating? What if the creature was simply and illusion, and they real things were hitting them?
That made a hell of a lot more sense.

"I'll definitely keep attacking," Eva suddenly piped up from behind them, the crystal atop her staff suddenly giving off a faint purple glow, "But while Chara and I are here, let me just..."
She touched her weapon to Ami's shoulder, sending a pulse of power through the other woman's Fear shield as Chara worked on mending it. When the light from the crystal faded, she pulled away.
"Right-o. Let's get back to this fight!"

Ami looked at Eva in alarm as the weapon touched her shoulder, feeling the familiar healing power coming over. She recognized it in an instant with the way the weapon lit up, and the warmth she always felt when Junpei let her borrow his power.
Her eyes widened and Ami shook her head. No, not her. Eva had picked the wrong person- Lex was obviously more hurt than she was. She didn't need it! She didn't-
- Have time to think about it, as a bar of darkness slammed into her side, throwing her into Eva's side. "Sorry!" she said, quickly changing her focus back to the enemy. She stumbled off the girl and went backing to shooting the fog monster. Right, they had a job here and all.

Lex coughed, shaking his head. His hands were shaky and his vision blurry - there was no way in hell he could hit whatever it was that was assaulting him.

Grunting, Lex pulled the trigger, barely ticking the top of the doll's head while he was thrown against a tree by what felt like a massive set of hands.

Staggering back from the sudden impact, Eva instinctively stretched an arm out in an attempt to steady Ami. At the apology, she chirped a surprisingly cheerful--albeit with a voice that sounded slightly scratchy--"no problem".
Of course, there was no time to dwell on that when she felt something slam into her other side--something that was obviously set out to harm her--the young woman grit her teeth, her fingers curling more tightly around Chara. Before the figure could move away, she swung out with her weapon, following through the motion with her whole body. She felt a sense of satisfaction as she heard--and felt--the impact.
Not too bad! Now the question was, just how tough was this thing and how much longer...?

Ami coughed, once, then repeatedly, then so hard that she couldn't even hold her gun straight.
What had she done. This was an absolute mess, and she'd led two people into this completely unprepared
This was all her fault. If one of them died, it was her fault. The result of their mission was her fault.

Inhaling sharply, Lex called out to the other two "Cover your ears!" before clenching his own jaw and pulling the trigger or the gun, aimed right at the doll thing's face.
A deep bass rang throughout the area, reverberating the air around them and pummeling whatever was hitting his team, if for a a moment. That moment had to be painful, Lex thought, as the bullet of compressed air and sound crashed into the doll abomination, taking off a good chunk of it's head.
That just made it creepier.
Cocking the hammer back, he soon found himself jostled and accosted, nearly tripping over himself.

Eva didn't ask questions. She immediately threw her hands over her ears at the order, eyes narrowed as she watched Lex fire at the creature, and although it had definitely taken substantial damage, it still wasn't down.
Geez, that thing was tough! When the barrage of bullets stopped, she lunged forward and brought her weapon down, only to hiss in pain as it swung out to strike her, catching her right in the stomach and sending her flying back. Sprawled out on the ground, she let out a groan before forcing herself back up.
Ow, okay. Okay, they could do this. Her Fear shield was starting to feel a little fragile, but she knew that she could still take just a little more damage.
