Calanoth thrummed a pleased greeting when Plexith joined him. He didn't mind sharing the joys of his hatchlings with others. In fact so long as they didn't bother Suunath he'd have all the dragons paying attention to his clutch.

"Hard to say. There are a couple that I would NOT see on a dragon down there for any amount of Marks." He didn't say who but cast a wry grin in D'lin's direction. "He's proud of it sure. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a bronze or two hidden in there as well. Some of those eggs rival the gold's for size." It was interesting to see a lot of the candidates gravitate towards the smaller eggs first, as if they didn't want their preferences for the large ones to be that obvious.

"The big lump's been obsessed with hatchlings since he himself hatched. He wants to crack their shells himself just so he can play with them sooner." Z'fer crossed his arms and snorted his amusement. "It's embarassing!"

"What about you? Seen anything interesting yet?"

Medura

The next egg Medura went to was the Brown Egg. However she got little to no reaction from it. In fact it seemed rather confused or just unaware of her presence to begin with. A little disappointed she pulled her hand back moving onto the Languid egg. Such a rather lazy little thing, but at least it was it was a friendly one. For moment Medura actually did wish she could stay with it for a while like it asked. However she was forced to move on pulling her hand back with a sigh to greet the next egg. The Pacifist egg was rather sweet however she certainly didn't need looking out for. She already had one mother and she had done a rather poor job of looking after her. Medura was perfectly capable of holding her own.

--------------------------------------

Niyx

Placing a gentle hand on the golden shell of the Jitterbug egg she felt the smooth surface warming her palm as the egg seemed to radiate gentle heat. And then of course the questions began. Blinking in surprise Niyx grinned peering down at the egg and her own distorted reflection mirrored there. She loved questions herself. There were always more questions in the world that needed to be answered. For an example with 27 candidates and 20 eggs each of them she had calculated had a 7% chance of impressions with an additional 7% chance of a stands impression. However breaking down the numbers seemed to take away from the whole touching and impression making it seem more like a game then such a huge life changing event. Then again what good as life if you couldn't have a little fun? It seemed the Queen egg agreed. It certainly was a lot less snobby then she expected. Maybe having a Queen like this rule over them wasn't so bad.

Reluctanly Niyx removed her hand bowing to the Queen once again before moving on to the Slender Egg. Touching it's shell Niyx felt a well of cunning and confidence from the smooth surface.

---------------------------------------------

Meroc

Moving from the Knockabout Egg Meroc went to lay a gentle hand on the Head First Egg and was in for a surprise. The egg seemed to shiver and move and each new twitch brought a new random remark. Shaking his head he pulled his hand back arched a brow at the egg and moved on to touch the Circles Within Circles egg only jerk his hand back just as quickly. He wasn't sure hoe he felt about someone poking around in his memories.

Tyeth had refused to come. He had told N'mol that the time would come where Suunath's Clutch would hatch and he would be present then, but there was no purpose to his being there while the Candidates were touching her still quiet eggs. N'mol hadn't blamed him. Though his anger at losing the Flight had long since passed and he had reached some kind of quiet acceptance of Calanoth, it might be a bit much for him to be in the Sands looking at eggs that could have been his. N'mol shrugged it off and went along, content to be dropped off to find his own place in the Stands.

Though he had arrived not long after Z'fer, he had kept to the far back, looking over the Clutch-- small eggs, smaller than was usual, even in the Gold egg's case-- and the Candidates who entered. He saw several familiar faces, Roscoe's among them, and tried to view them objectively, as a Wingleader rather than just as an observing rider.

D'lin joined Z'fer a short time later and N'mol watched them converse for a moment before going back to . He knew if he joined them he would be distracted and for now he wanted to focus on who looked like a potential rider and not like a young child-- which many of them did. Some people might say he wasn't one to talk, but N'mol had earned his position with skill and politics and had the battle scars to prove he had some experience (if not much). If people thought being 17 Turns meant he wasn't as good as the other Wingleaders, all of whom had about as much experience leading a Wing as he did, then that was their mistake.

Rochelle joked about wanting to ride gold but, really, no. Chilling out on a nest of sand once a turn didn't appeal to her in the slightest and, really, who wouldn't want to set things on fire? Fire was awesome. Killing thread, also awesome. Probably deadly and going to kill people, but still badass.

She pulled her hands back and wriggled her fingers. A grin cracked at Carltis' excuse for the little egg and she shrugged. "To each their own. Maybe it is a spy dragon. It'll watch us all forever." Carltis had a little glass crafter tagging after him whether he intended it or not. She went down and put his hands on the shell of the Languid Egg and that grin widened even more.

A nice little egg. She patted it very gently, hand barely a centimeter from the shell in way of comfort. "S'all good, kid. You'll be fine." And up again, bushing her hands on her pants. The next she wandered towards was Circles-Within-Circles, Rochelle dragged in by the rather lovely pattern. She nodded towards it for Carltis, crouched down and touched it.

Invasion! It got a squeak and closed eyes, though the whole 'excitement' bit kicked in and she grinned. Right, so not a completely psychotic little egg but energetic. "I think we found one of those lively ones you were talking about."

Orlina

Orlina was among the candidates touching the eggs and she was thrilled. Her second Clutch! Last time O'thor had Impressed to Adamanth, and so Orlina had determined that this time had to be hers. Well, she hoped it had to be hers, anyway!

She set about touching the eggs with enthusiasm, running her hands thoroughly over the smooth shells, projecting greetings and thoughts at the babies inside, and occasionally even cooing at the end beneath her hands. This was so exciting! She loved eggs. (Her firelizards were back at her bunk, of course, waiting for her to return. No sense in taking the risk that they would anger Suunath or Hyweth.)

------

Jordan

This wasn't his Clutch. As self-defeating as it was to say that, Jordan knew that this wasn't going to be his Clutch. His mind just wasn't here the way it had been in the past and with each egg he touched (though he'd only made it half-way through the Gold's Clutch) he was more certain. None of them seemed... right. Somehow. The bigger eggs would not, of course, be for him, but with this Clutch it was hard to tell what was meant to be a "big" egg.

He glanced up at Suunath once and then reached out to touch another egg. He just wanted to get this over with, move on the Crimson's Clutch, and get out. He was going to wander down to the Dolphineer's building later and catch up with Felix to see if the Journeyman wanted to go for a swim or catch dinner. That was far more interesting to him than this was at this moment, unfortunately.

D'lin rolled his eyes slightly in sympathy "I know what you mean, I'm afraid there will be two big bronze lumps attempting to lay claim to play time with all the hatchlings then." He told his fellow Wingleader with a smile.

Turning his attention to the candidates as they moved through the eggs he nodded slightly "There always seems to be a few sour apples in the bunch, I haven't spoken to the weyrling masters as much as I normally do however so I'm afraid I don't know as much about this group as I typically do - too much going on lately." He stated with a slight shrug. Until they impressed getting to know them wasn't to much of a big deal..he liked to..because he was that sort of guy but when push came to shove and other priorities had come up getting to know the newest Candidates had fallen to the wayside. Glancing to see who else was in the stands he noticed N'mol and sent him a wave of greeting, but he seemed to be in his own little world so D'lin left him alone.

"If not bronzes there has definitely got to be some nice study browns in there, but I'm putting some credits on at least one Bronze..Plexith will sulk, he hates the new competition."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

While several of his fellows seemed to focus on the smaller eggs Roscoe ignored them for the most part too, his intent was to impress to a bronze or a brown...perhaps, maybe, a good solid blue if he had too but certainly not a green. Never that..and he wasn't shy about letting people know what he intended either, no he went to run his hands along the larger of the eggs first. He'd visit Sunnaths smaller eggs as a matter of respect of course..but he wouldn't linger to get a real feel for any he didn't think to contain the colors he was looking for.

Carltis followed Rochelle over to the dark blue egg; seemed as good a place to go as any, as a lot of the other eggs were currently occupied with candidates or being homed in on. His friend's comment on the egg got a raise of his eyebrows, and when he reached out to it he did so prepared for a fairly strong reaction from the Circles-Within-Circles egg.

...That tickled, sort of. Carltis shivered as he felt it poking through his brain; it seemed playful, enthused and maybe a bit teasing. Again it didn't really feel like his type, but who could really say with dragons? Either way he didn't close his mind to it; given this might well be his last chance to Impress he needed to be as open as possible to all the eggs. Maybe he should even touch the gold just in case; wouldn't that be a laugh? Carltis, Weyrwoman extraordinare. He grinned a bit to himself at that and took his hand away from the dark blue shell; perhaps he should try to write a song or short story about the Amazing Male Gold Rider; maybe he could even try his hand at playwriting!

Nearby was the small Play Nice Egg; Carltis jerked his head at it and started to move over. "That was definitely one of the more lively ones," he murmured, stooping slightly to speak into Rochelle's ear. "What did you think of it; your type? Not sure it was mine... but on the other hand maybe it will hatch into something that can balance my charming personality?"

(can't resist)

In the Stands was another male. A decidedly unhappy little lump of boy at least. Zarike's face was twisted into a pout as he rested his chin on folded arms. He stood at the lowest level of the Stands, as close as he would be allowed to the two hardening clutches.

It wasn't fair! He was almost twelve! It's not like the hatchlings would know to count the days (or months as he was). It wasn't fair that two dragons had to rise and clutch so close to his name day. Or that their eggs would hatch well before he was technically allowed to be a candidate.

It wasn't fair.

Maybe one of the hatchlings within would be able to sense him up here. Maybe, he could be one of those surprise Stands Impressions and not even have to Stand at all. He could feel Dorado searching for him and repeated a firm command to Stay. He didn't need her getting him kicked out, even if he wasn't doing anything other than mope.

..........................

"Yours too huh?" Z'fer chuckled. It was nice to know at least his wasn't the only insane bronze in the weyr.

"There should be enough candidates to keep the worst of the bunch out." Sometimes it was strange to see what the search dragons brought back. Then again they at least could judge the candidates before dressing them up in white robes. Any Weyrborn brat could get onto the Sands, flawed or not.

"I admit I was worried about Suunath's clutch. With her being so small I wondered if she'd produce as well as a normal Gold. For a first clutch it's not bad though." Part of him thought it might be because of Calanoth. Malvren had had little fertility problems, especially when the bronze had been clutched. That, and his large stature, might have counteracted any problems Suunath might have hiding in her genetics.

"I'd be happy with browns." Z'fer nodded in agreement. Calanoth wouldn't care all that much unless it rivaled him for size, and even then it wouldn't be an issue till the dragon was full grown. Z'fer was perfectly happy with the number of bronzes already in the weyr. More browns would provide some solid strength to the Wings.

......................

Ailin approached the large bright Knockabout egg next. It's rapid movement was far different from the quiet stillness of the Brown and Slender eggs.

...and there was the intrusive personality he'd come to expect from eggs. It wasn't uncomfortable in a physical sense but the way it's attention leapt from him to something else left him concerned. Was such distraction good in such a large egg?

The Opportune Moment egg was next, Ailin retreating back to the smaller shells. It was even more uncomfortable than it's predecessor. Ailin kept his hand in place as he felt the hatchling within peeling through his surface thoughts. Was there a feeling of interest? Ailin couldn't be sure but the moment he felt it was even semi polite, he begged the hatchling's forgiveness and made his escape.

Ahmenna walked in with the other candidates, trying to stay close to her cousin but also trying to get a good look of the hatching area. Her eyes narrowed onto Suunat's gold body. They had heard the rules at least three or four times over, so much that any fool who ignored them deserved to be scorched. There were twenty eggs altogether. So many sizes and colors, Ahmenna wasn't sure what to make of it all. First order of business, bowing towards the great queen, the fishercraft girl moved forward, trying to catch Kharmeen's eye.

Moving forward to the Head First Egg, it was purple in color with specks. Almost like the sky between day and night, a sight she missed greatly. Carefully, Ahmenna reached out and stroked the shell. It was alive and almost seemed to ripple beneath her fingertips. A little wiggle and it felt almost friendly but distracted. "Funny creature, you are. Have you figured out if you are coming or going?" Almost like a shrug and 'Menna merely nodded. "Okay then."

Moving away, Menna found herself at the Jitterbug Egg. Blinking, she realized it was the gold egg and was supposed to be here. The shell could be called plain by some and lovely by others. It reminded her of the sun at midday. Extra careful, Ahmenna rubbed the egg and gave a deep sigh. "Hello there. You're the next little queen, eh? Well, my name's Ahmenna and..." She stuttered as a strong little mind tried to ask 50 questions in less than a minute. "Whoa, whoa. So much, so quickly. I come from near the sea. I promise to talk to you once you hatch and answer everything you want to know. If you remember me once you are out."

Pulling her hand back, the girl tried not to let the emotions overcome her.

----------
Kharmeen had did his best to stay close to Ahmenna but that plan didn't work out so well. Instead, he found himself being shuffled towards the left as they walked onto the sands. Amazing, there were bronzes watching as well as the gold Suunath. He could only imagine that the crimson sat watching her eggs as well. Bow and don't linger was the main message. A quick bow in her direction and more shuffling.

Moved towards the Opportune Moment Egg, for a moment, Kharmeen was unsure of what to do. He knew he was supposed to touch the egg, but how much touching was acceptable? A stroke, a poke or a complete hands on feel? Watching a few others, he finally decided to just place his hand on the egg's shell. Immediately, he felt a sense of cunning and cleverness. Like whomever was in there was trying to pick through his mind and figure him out. "Strange in there, huh? Trust me, I don't have too much going on. Work and more work. And looking out for Menna of course." Odd that he just opened up to a shell but hey, others were talking or muttering as well. Dropping his hand, he ducked his head close and gave a wink. "I bet you find what you are looking for easy enough."

From there, he moved to the Knockabout Egg. It seemed to be shaking and rattling; Kharmeen wondered if all eggs were so busy as the two he was touching. He had seen babies kicking in the womb and could only assume it was the same for the eggs. His hand on top of the egg, he had to grin at its exuberance. "Good day to you too! Happy little fellow, aren't you? It must be boring to be stuck inside for so long. Hopefully, you will be out soon enough and seeing the world." What an interesting pesonality! Kharmeen hoped all the eggs would be so interesting. Giving it a pat, he moved on.

Oooh, the Play Nice egg. She followed him over and put her hand on the egg. A rather delighted smile flickered on her lips at the curious little egg, all but squirming. Ha! Curious happy little egglet and then a Carltis in her ear. Rochelle managed not to jump at his murmur.

She turned to go almost nose to nose with her friend, glancing up to look him in the eyes. "I can see it. Get you a sassy dragon so you don't get bored when I'm not around. You might start writing poetry about flowers and kittens, next you know." Rochelle wraggled her eyebrows and gestured to the Knockabout Egg. "Wanna check out wriggly and green?"

Wen had dressed in his best guard uniform for the touching. It was the best clothing he had and it just seemed respectful and proper to show in uniform. Weaponless, but in straight, clean, clothing. He checked to make sure his braid was properly tucked under his hat as he listened to the rider on the sands. Most of it seemed rather straight forward: do not be loud, do not linger, do not injured, do not anger the mother dragons.

Bowing was less then pleasant. It exposed his neck and his back... he would have preferred to salute, which allowed him to keep clear eyes on the proceedings. He walked slow and kept a bit distant from the rest of the candidates. Specially the girls, what was he suppose to talk about to girls about? They made him uncomfortable and they dressed inefficiently. Skirts would just tangle and hamper movement. He still didn't get what his age mates in the guard saw in them.

He spared a glance to admire the queen egg. The smooth shelled warmed hued egg moved rather often, a good thing. The Brown Egg was the first he touched. It reminded him of runners flanks when brushed to a shine, under sunlight. It was a quiet egg, slow and blinking. The next he moved to was The Swelling egg. The orange to yellow was attractive and it shifted under his hand, welcoming, warm and comforting. Wen stroked the shell lightly, linger slightly in the tranquil haze the dragonlet inside gave off.

Slow beats of hugs wings carried the scarred green to the back of the stands, where she backwinged and landed carefully. she sent to the clutchmothers as she swept the sands with blue eyes. Ah, there was Rochelle, amongst Sunnath's eggs at the moment. It seemed that it had been decided to have candidates greet her eggs first; hardly a shock given the status of golds in the Weyr.

---------

Carltis snorted at Rochelle and bent down to the Play Nice Egg ...Which apparently hated him. He pulled his hand back, scowling darkly. "Well shaff you too," he muttered as he stood up. "Fine," he nodded, a bit of a sneer pulling at his lips. "Unless that egg turns out to be a double blue or green it won't have either of us but I suppose we may as well say hello to the unattainable."

Shoulder's squared he stalked over to the Knockabout Egg and laid a hand on it. Oh, it was so pleased to see him! Well wasn't that lovely for it, brown or bronze that he was sure it was. He removed his hand, bitter and frustrated. Never for him; only worthy heterosexuals could Impress the most worthy of dragons.

The next egg Darsha approached was the Languid egg, and when she placed a gentle hand on it she felt a surge of soothing calm, as if all her concern was washed away. Yes, the sands were deliciously warm and perhaps it would be very nice to lay down and curl around the egg and have a lovely nap. Darsha felt her eyelids growing a little heavy at the thought. But her natural energetic self pulled through and she knew that she would never be able to lay down and watch the the rest of the candidates wander by. Not when there were so many more eggs to introduce herself to. She smiled and removed herself reluctantly from the languid egg, feeling a faint pang.

Gazing around, Darsha took a moment to determine which egg she should approach next. Several of them, including the golden egg, were surrounded by knots of candidates and she preferred to be as close to alone as possible when she introduced herself. She didn't want any if the little dragons cooking inside their shells to confuse her with someone else. Darsha wasn't entirely sure whether or not the eggs would notice her and remember her better during the hatching, but she had developed a game plan and she planned on sticking to it.

The Self-Absorbed egg had been surrounded a moment ago, but the candidates had all wandered away and Darsha took the opportunity to approach it. When she touched the egg, she laughed out loud at the impatience and eagerness of its occupant. She could feel it riffling through her mind, and she thought perhaps she sensed a bit of approval emanating from whoever was within the vivid shell.

There were several eggs lying around the outside of the clutch. Wen walked steadily to the Opportune Moment Egg. It wasn't the most gorgeous egg, it was rather plain but made up with sharp intelligence and interest. Unlike The Brown egg, the taupe one seemed to have an idea in mind for what it wanted. He continued and laid his hands on The Head First Egg. The purple speckled egg nearly jumped into his mind. It was chaotic and jumbled and Wen didn't linger long on the shell.

Rochelle rolled her eyes at Carltis' back and stuck out her tongue to him. That didn't keep her from following after him. If she ran off every time he got frustrated or angry, they'd have spoken a grand total of once in their life before someone bloodied the others nose. She sidled up next to him, shoulder to shoulder and dared a glance up. "I liked the color." She said by way of explination before leaning in and putting her hand on the Knockabout Egg.

She smiled a little, hand pulling back after a moment of the excitement. Apparently it liked her! Maybe a silver? Size didn't matter. There were always rumors of dragonets in oddly sized shells - shiny dragons in small eggs, chromatics in large eggs. Maybe they were just a candidates gossip, maybe not.

"Which one do you want to touch then, Carltis? As long as it isn't big shiny over there, I'm game." Rochelle nudged him. 'I'll follow."

-----

Kaeyne moved slowly behind the others, near to the back of the group. His eyes ran over all of them, the eggs, the Candidates, the dragons. There was nothing wrong with bowing to the mothers in his eyes - they gave them eggs and they were about to go and touch the mothers children. He knew human woman prone to fighting just because someone offered to feed their child.

He dipped into a bow for Kindra. When he straightened, the weavercrafter looked over her dress critically and, more to the point, the embroidery.

"That does nothing for your skintone," He said, voice even and conversational. No mocking lay there and his face betrayed no jokes. "The gold. Maybe some blues? Greens? I have a pale lavender that would compliment you."
