He looked at her with a smile. "I think whether a herd is large or small as long as there is love and things provided for the members that's really all that matters." With often having alone time throughout the days while his family and herd members soared above and tended to other duties Derecho spent a great deal of his time simply thinking. When he had been younge rhe had often thought of how he could make himself stronger, and it was something he still thought about to this day, but now he also thought on other things. Like what it was like in other herds, the vast lands that lay beyond her families lands and when and where he would find his place in the world. Hearing that Kaili was happy in a small but kind herd gave him a glimpse into what the world was like beyond the herd borders. "And you're family? Do they all live in the herd or are they spread out? I know you mentioned your grandmother came to visit you, but is she the only one who lives elsewhere?"
Seeing her shy smile and hearing her whisper thank you Derecho smiled and nodded his hear. "You're welcome." Stepping inside the cave Derecho took a moment to carefully shake the rain from his body, making sure to not send any towards Kaliri before glancing towards her again. "Perhaps. But they know I don't travel far when I do wander so unless I don't come back tonight they will simply think I am waiting out the storm." Which in fact was exactly what he would be doing had he stayed closer to home. Yet as he looked at Kaliri he was glad he had decided to go for a walk today, to wander just a bit further out of the territory than normal because had he not he would have never met Kaliri. As thunder rolled in the distance and the rain increased outside the cave Derecho let out a soft sigh. In a way he was hoping the storm would be a long one, just so he would be able to talk with Kaliri more.

"I think that is a beautiful and true thought." Kaliri agreed.Having grown up in a rather unorthodox herd when one considered the general make-up she had long ago decided that things such as a Soquili's size or breed did not entirely matter in the long run - as long as their heart was in the right place. "Oh it is only my parents and siblings who reside in the herd we grew up in. the rest of the family lives quite a ways off. My parents were wanders you see..and were visiting old friends in the herd when my mother found out she was expecting..they obviously couldn't keep wandering once they knew my siblings and I were coming and they knew the Little Meadow herd was a nice safe place for foals to grow so they decided to stay...it was supposed to be temporary I think..until we grew old enough to travel with them, but ...we just never left." She finished with a slight laugh.
Glancing out at the storm she shuddered slightly to think about how awful it would have been if Derecho had not come along. Being stuck out in this weather was a grand way to get sick if nothing else. But such thoughts were dreary and here in this warm cave, with the lighting and thunder outside and good company inside, she couldn't bring herself to think on such things for very long. "I rather like storms." She admit to Derecho "They might be dangerous but they are beautiful to watch." She stated, ear pricked forward as a flash of lightning skittered across the clouds. "I'm glad your here to watch it with me." She added softly in a voice that could barely be heard over the crash of thunder and wind from outside the cave. "I don't think I would have enjoyed it nearly so much where I was earlier." She concluded, turning her attention from the storm just long enough to give him a warm look before looking back outside again.

Derecho nodded but said nothing else. It was a beautiful thought and saying anything else would only spoil it. While he doubted the others in his family would agree to his way of thinking it was nice to know that Kaliri appreciated it. Hearing that little bit of background about his family made him smile. "Sounds like your parents stumbled upon the perfect place to live in this Little Meadow Herd." He found it a curious name for a herd but didn't say anything about it, some might think Thunderbird was an odd name for a herd as well.
He watched the storm for a few moments until Kaliri broke the silence. "I wasn't much a fan of them when I was younger but now I appreciate them for what they are." He almost didn't hear her next words over the thunder but he was certain he had heard them right and gave a smile. "I'm glad I was able to rescue you. Watching the storm with you....it's a refreshing thing." His smile grew and his eyes lingered on her a bit longer than he had planned. Much as he would have liked to say anything else he found he was suddenly nervous and his mind had gone blank. So he turned his attention back to the storm and watch it in silence with Kaliri standing beside him.
