He looked at Ofie as he frowned firmly. “I’d rather not have anyone die for my sake.” Not again, anyways. Perhaps someday Wilson would be able to put his life on the line for the sake of someone else, but today was not that day.
The other hunter made no move to slip his hand out of hers. He smiled back at her before he continued to lead her back toward the dorms. “You’ll always be my friend too,” he answered automatically. “And as a friend, I won’t let your head get chopped off or sent to the desert if I can help it.” He winced as he realized what he had just said. Sent to the desert. Wilson had let Ryan and Kat get sent to the desert so easily, but he wouldn’t let it happen a second time. He refused to.
It was only after a few seconds of recounting Ofie’s did he realize the peculiarity of Ofie’s words.
