I have some trouble fully distinguishing the faults in his personality, apart from him being passive when he's not dancing. So perhaps expanding on those.
As a side note, bats are blind, is he blind as well?
He has a father, but you never mention his mother? Did she die?

No, just sensitive to light. He's pretty fine on cloudy or heavily misty days, though. It was the ancestors who required pitch black night 24/7...Since then, once they separated their own forest, they've adapted to be more tolerable to light to an extent, and aren't as dark and stealthy as their ancestors[embracing use of bright-colored tattoos, beads, loud music, etc.].
Naw, she's just not a very influential figure in his life. She's like Merida from Brave's mother, but overall more of a background character--Traditional, minding her manners, and speaking only when needed to...I did somewhat mention her in "Morality/Ethics". She's fierce and demands complete obedience when she speaks among her peers, but most of the time she prefers to be seen rather than heard. Even when it's just her husband or her kids around, she's pretty taciturn.
On her views about Niatyr leaving, she would have only spoken after the Chief made a decision first. And it'd be something pretty neutral like, "Remember to put your all into it" or "You are teh Chieftain's child, remember that".
She's...that sort of character. If that makes sense.
