Asking Ofelia what she wanted to make was the total opposite of what she wanted to be asked of her (because she wanted to focus on Sherry) but in the end it would be okay. The teen could easily get them into the spot they needed to be, which was making sugar cookies, so she went with something that would have them both making the same thing. The end result of that would be a single cookie created by the two of them which she felt would be perfect for helping Sherry's kitchen-based self-esteem. "Then we're gonna go ahead an' make the peppermint stripe ones. Basically it's jus' two batches'a dough but one is dyed red an' flavored. Sound easy 'nough?" Ofelia wink-blinked (she really needed to get another eye in so she could wink properly). "In order ta do that yer gonna make one batch'a dough an' Ah'll make the second. When it comes time ta properly bake we'll set 'em tagether an' then we can say we did all'a it tagether. That way the cookies will taste twice as awesome 'cause we both put in all our effort."
In another life Ofelia might have made an awesome Home Ec teacher. The awesomely eccentric one of course, but awesome none the less. Or maybe someone who taught preschool.
"Okay...ta start, we need two mixin' bowls, spatulas....uh...." She went on to list various ingredients, all the while motioning for Sherry to help her get them out and place them on the main countertop. Since they were going to be making two batches it was important to check first and see if they had everything, what with portals still being down and easily pissing her off. Ofelia needed her baking stuff, stat!GrnGriff I BLAME THE META FOR MAKING ME TAKE SO LONG >____> ilu and cherry ALSO THIS is sort of what i want them to be making but ofelia has no grasp of portion control so there's gonna be tons of cookies ahahahaha

Sherry just kept nodding. "That sounds great!" Dying dough? She knew it could be done, and she'd always wanted to try...but she never had. Much like baking in general. "It'll turn out perfect!" Ofelia's enthusiasm was rubbing off on Sherry. Orders. Sherry could handle those. She ran around, doing her best to help find, organize, and double check everything they needed. It was pretty obvious she wasn't as familiar with the kitchen as Ofelia was, but she did have a general idea of what things were, and she was a quick study. Usually. Rown I blame my muse for being terrible and taking forever. ;-;

Once all the needed supplies were assembled Ofelia motioned for Sherry to make sure her hands were clean before they got started. Even if it was just the basic stuff and they would be cooking out much of the germs there was sill something important about washing your hands again and again. Usually Ofelia had hers cleaned about four or five times during the cooking of a meal or the baking of a snack, if not more. "Okay, yer gonna make the normal base dough an' Ah'll handle up the red set. Sound okay fer starters?" The red dough would have the flavoring and the colors and, even though Ofelia wasn't trying to say Sherry couldn't handle it, she liked working with the colorants.
The redhead got everything together on her side and laid it out so Sherry could see and maybe get her own set ready. "First we gotta get the dry stuff tagether in one bowl an' shift it 'round, then ya put the moist in another an' blend tagether after. Make sense?"

Clean hands was something Sherry could handle. That was the easy part. Looking at all the things they had set out and ready, Sherry found she was...overwhelmed was not the word. Something closer to realizing just how much work they were about to do. Of course, it looked like more than it was, since they were splitting it, and had double of most things out.
"Ok, I can handle that." Ofie's enthusiasm and confidence in her was most certainly oozing in. If Ofelia was there to help her out, then surely she could do this. Yeah. Definitely.
At least that's what she kept telling herself as she watched Ofie set things up on her side. She watched, and started setting her own work area in a similar fashion.
"Right. Yeah. That makes sense." Dry first, wet later. She was quiet for a moment, then asked a question she'd always kind of wondered about. "Why do we do it that way?"

.........Ofelia just looked at Sherry with a stare.
Sherry had broken Ofelia's brain with such a simple question.

Sherry spent a few moments looking right back at Ofelia, waiting for some kind of answer. As the realization that she might not get an answer settled upon her, Sherry began to worry. She didn't want to upset the helpful Sun trainee that was being so nice to her! "I'm sorry, it's a silly question." Clearly she should know this, it was a basic rule, wasn't it? Or was it that Ofelia didn't know for sure either? She gave a small, sheepish laugh, then looked back down at the goods spread out before her. Then she looked back up. Sometimes curiosity just got the better of her. "Is it really that bad if we put it all in together? Or get the order wrong?" Rown xDD It's all good. My fault anyway.

"S'not silly...Ah jus'...never really thought 'bout it b'for. Ah suppose ya could separate 'em in order ta be able to control the rate'a mixture or sommin'. Would make more sense that way if ya think 'bout it." Ofelia shrugged as she spoke. At Sherry's next question she found herself nodding her head. "Yeah, goin' outta order can really screw up the end results. Think'a bakin' an' cookin' like the old phrase 'cart b'for the horse'. Ya gotta take steps ta get what'cha need, rushin' an' shortcuts end up wit' results that are really, really bad." Sort of like the cookies you made before she wanted to say but kept her mouth shut on it. Instead she just plowed on.
"There's a chance when bakin' that ya could make the dough too thick an' it doesn't come out right, or if ya add everythin' at once ya could get clumps an' air bubbles that totally ruin yer end result." There was a pause as she Ofelia hoped everything she was saying was making sense. "Sound 'bout good? Truth be told Ah really dunno but that was how Ah was taught, s'how Ah do it, an' the end results always come out how Ah wanna have 'em." Ofelia said, end of story.

Sherry listened. She nodded too, not to make it seem as though she was paying attention, but because she truly was. Order to things, taking it slow, yeah. That did make sense. It would allow one a bit more control. Which was good. Seeing as, well, a very uneducated person attempting to bake could turn out...well. Sherry knew what could happen. Had that been where she went wrong? Maybe. She might never figure it out, considering she really didn't know what she had been doing the first time 'round. There was more nodding. "Yeah. That makes sense." She wasn't totally lying, because it did. And really, if that explanation was good enough for the the red-haired master cookie maker, then it was good enough for Sherry. "So, flour first?" Rown <333 omg. Now I want cookies.
