"I made a promise to... someone as their life ebbed away, you see. I promised I'd protect a girl, to be as loyal to her... even though..." Aza felt his heart tremble and his lip quiver. No, he couldn't continue that sentence lest his grief would overtake him, and breaking down in front of someone in such a way was so... unsightly. Imposing his burdens on others just wasn't his style. Instead, the tired stallion took a deep breath, searching for inspiration and strength from the beautiful summer-y day ahead of him to chase away the sorrow. "Not mentioning that to protect someone you have to kinda find them first." A renewed smiled beamed, mocking the irony of it all. He was an azrein set on protecting a girl he hadn't found yet.

"... I understand. More or less." Haides let his gaze wander for a moment before fixing it on Aza again. "Who is it... that you are searching for?"

"I don't know!" The cryptic reply was followed by Aza's own laughter, with a touch of madness. Had the Azrein finally cracked into insanity? "Forgive me for that, I meant no disrespect... but that's sort of the way it is. I'm looking for an elf girl that I've never met, to be more precise." His nose lowered to the locket, pressing it to open. One half of the inside was inlaid with amethyst, the other bore a small lock of rich auburn hair. "This is all I have of her. A piece of hair and a stone the color of her eyes."

Haides tilted his head ever so slightly as he watched Aza burst into laughter in such a way that made his sanity questionable. But he apologized afterwards. Maybe it was just the heat. "Even so, that narrows it down a great deal." His blue eyes fixed on Aza's golden ones. "Two-leggers generally remain in the northern section of the island. If you're looking for an elven girl, the city of Avandere would be the best place to search." He straightened his head. "Do you know her name?"

The stallion tilted his head at Haides' mention of the capital city. There were a lot of people in a city, but... if the girl was anything like her mother, the last thing she was was social. Still, it was worth a shot. "Layla. Not the most common name, but not that rare either. Better than nothing, yes? It'll be strange venturing into a city on my own, still."

"If you have trouble finding her, you could ask around there," Haides suggested. "My adopted family lives up there. They might be able to help you." He shrugged. "Even if you don't go into the city, there's a good possibility of finding her in the north if she's here on the island. Most two-leggers are smart enough to remain in the northern part of the isle, as the southern Azrien don't like two-leggers."

Aza nodded, appreciative of Haides' suggestion. The unicorn not only gave him precious, life saving aid, he was also helping him on fulfilling his quest, or at least provide a bit of information on the layout of the island, something completely foreign to the golden male. "Really? That's good to know. I'll be sure to contact your family and give them my regards, and perhaps assure them that you are well if you so wish." His emerald eyes ventured to the plains, to the smooth green surface. At the distance, the far far distance, Aza thought he could see the very small outline of the city. Or perhaps the heat was just playing tricks on his mind. "I had no idea there was such a dividing animosity towards the two legged kinds amidst the Azrein."

When Aza offered to contact his family, Haides just shrugged. "If you wish. ... I should warn you now, however, that if you do discuss me in front of my family, you will assuredly attract Beta's attention. She is... easily excitable." He gave another shrug at the golden stallion's comment. "Everyone thinks differently. Some long to be Bonded, others think it unnatural and would love nothing more than to see the two-leggers gone." And then there were those like him who didn't really care either way.

"Nothing wrong with being energetic." It couldn't be that bad, probably just a step up from Haides' collected self. To the calm and cool ones, a little bit of extra energy always seemed to ruffle their mood sideways, after all. He could only hope such a wisdom was right. "I can see why not just anyone would like to Bond, it's a bit restraining to your freedom to do whatever, and not every person is exactly... up to par. Still, to take it out on all people without distinction seems a bit... extreme... The two legged races already kill each other enough as it is anyway..." Aza's expressioned hardened into a slight frown, the whole subject of violence making him uncomfortable. Not every place was the same, granted, but there were lands where the only instance of peace one could attain was after being dead. Sometimes, not even then. He'd seen his fair share, every encounter just adding to his violence loathing mindset. A big horse with a pacifist heart.

Haides didn't comment to Aza's statement on energy. If Aza did meet Beta, he'd find out just how "energetic" she was. Haides shrugged. "To each his own." As he continued, the stallion let out a breath of air from his nose in a quiet sigh. "That's how it goes, I guess. An argument develops, tensions run high, violence breaks loose... And then that violence breeds hatred and despair, which leads to more violence. ... It's a vicious cycle." A vicious cycle that had cost him quite dearly.

"Quite. In fact, it's the reason why I'm up here praising the gods to be alive after a suicidal flight instead of down below munching on an apple and playing with kids. If you asked me a month ago where I'd be, it certainly wouldn't be on the Floating Island..." Running a fool's errand with a fool's persistency, he added to himself in thought.

"... I apologize. I don't see the relation." Haides didn't see the connection between Aza's "suicidal flight" up to the isle and the previous topic of war. He was at the isle to find someone, right? Why would that... "... Nevermind. I found it."

The golden stallion gave Haides a mixed smile. Sharp. Maybe it was time to change the subject. "So. Two travelers, two journeys. I've spoken of my quest. What is yours, if it isn't too troublesome to answer?"

Haides thought for a moment on the best way to answer. "I am... deciding my path. By coming into contact with many different opinions, I believe my own perspective will become clearer." He paused. "And... I will hopefully find those whom I have lost."
