When Ten finished speaking the remainder of his false smile faded and Nine looked towards the dirt on the ground. He felt almost betrayed that his wife would ask him to do this. It hurt him and he didn't know why it felt so painful. "You asked what troubles me. It's this place. All of it, the land, the sky, the people, they trouble me. In my crusade to save them I have become the very thing I destroy and I can't change that. Once I let the darkness in it wouldn't come out. I can not protect this place from myself and I know that if I snapped they could not stop me." Nine paused and looked from the ground back to his wife.
"I can't come back, I have nothing to come back to, we have nothing to go back to. Eight is dead, Six is dead, our son is lying to all of them so he can do what I asked him to. What do we have to come back to? No one here wants to here from me, I have nothing left to tell them. Nothing left to give but my protection and that is running out. So tell me what the point is, why should I come back." Nine began backing away from him wife having made his position on returning clear. Unless she had something ground shifting to tell him the odds were that he would not return. Even if she did, it had to be good news.

Her heart filled with sadness and disappointment as she watched her husband step back. “No wait—please..” She stretched her arm out, grabbing ahold of his forearm and pulling him back to her. “Why do we need anything? We don’t need the kingdom.” She tried her best to persuasively convince him into being with her. She reached for his shoulder, grabbing them tight as she pleaded. “We don’t need to be there. We can leave.Just run away. You and me. Why do we need the kingdom? We don’t. Come, leave with me Nine.” She pulled her husband into an embrace. She didn’t expect him to say no, she didn’t want him to say no. She wanted to spend their remaining years together, but she began to feel like this option was no longer an option.
“I love you…Please don’t go.”

Nine closed his eyes when Ten embraced him. He knew what his answer had to be. He had to go. That was the only way anyone would be safe. "I have too long left in this life to let the world burn. I have to protect them and I can not do that from here, because here, I may be the very thing that destroys them." Nine backed out of the hug and turned away from the one he loved. For all of his talk Nine did not only fear that the Zaibatsu would burn if he staid, he feared Ten would as well. Nine had destroyed everything he touched the last sixteen years. Six and Eight had started the fire and Nine had been feeding it fire for the last sixteen years. He didn't want Ten to die, he did want to ruin her as he had ruined himself. He wanted to protect her and he had become to dark to do that. "I can't stay here. I can't put these people at risk. I can't put your life at risk."

Ten stared, watching her husband walk from her. "If you leave me, I'm gone for good Nine. You're showing me this love we had was meaningless. If you feel whatever duty is more important than what we have built together, than go." She spoke her last response to him. After that, it didn't matter what he decided. There was nothing she could say.

Nine stopped walking after Ten spoke. He turned to face her again, his face revealing none of his emotions. "What have we built? Answer that question. The DOMA? We didn't build that and it was destroyed. The Zaibatsu? Simply another empire at it's prime. I am fighting to keep it from falling like the others and you are trying to plunge me farther into the darkness than I have ever been. Why? Why care for me? I am a monster, I have killed thousands and they are just numbers to me. I feel nothing, no regret, no sorrow. I do what the darkness guides me to do." Nine tilted his head to look at Ten. He took two steps towards her loaded with enough intent to frighten a king. Then he stopped. "I will love you till the day I die. Take that from me, and you may not like what is left." Nine had seemingly shifted greatly in the last few seconds. He now stood his ground forcing Ten to leave if she sought an end to his conversation. He would not give up their love so he could protect her, but he would not easily be manipulated.

She stood in silence, staring at Nine as his words told her she was what was making him sink into darkness. He was already in darkness, she knew this, and yet, she let his words get to her. He wasn’t the Nine she knew. This wasn’t him. He wasn’t a monster like he stated he was, he was a loving husband, and a comforting father. She was not intimidated by his sternness or his darkness, but hurt by his point of blame. She wanted to believe his “I love you”. She wanted him to prove it at that moment in time. “What makes you think the Zaibatsu won’t get destroyed?” She asked calmly, still starring at the man she thought she once knew. ”It’s going to fail, like every other empire has ever failed. But you have clearly proven to me, that you love them much more than myself. ” She wanted to say so much more than this, but she knew at this point, it didn’t matter, her feelings were worthless to him and nothing could convince him to run away with her. By now, Ten was blaming the Zaibatsu. She despised the thought of Eight and his kingdom, and when she heard of his death, she couldn’t have been happier. But now, the Zaibatsu meant something different from her. Taking her husband has made her their enemy. She had never felt so helpless like she had at this moment. She had always felt strong, and powerful. She could take down cities with her hands and manipulate a man’s mind to her will. But at this moment, she couldn’t have what she wanted more than any of those things. She wrapped her arms around herself, holding her own body before it fell apart before her. “I can clearly see, meeting with you was a mistake. If you tell me to leave now, than I will leave, and I will not return to you, and you can continue your life as you please.”

Nine knew he could resolve this. Using his powers he could manipulate her memory to make her forget this conversation, he could manipulate her emotions to make her feel anything other than what she felt, but he didn't and he wouldn't. "I would never love them more than you but they do not deserve to die because I care for them less. There are families of innocent people in the Zaibatsu! They don't deserve the chaos that would reign if I didn't stop it. They deserve peace. They have been through enough. I let the darkness in so that they wouldn't have to. " Nine paused to ensure Ten had heard him. He knew it was over for them. Either he left and she never spoke to him again, or she left and never spoke to him again. Those were the rules she had set before him. "I don't want you to leave, and I don't want to go. But your giving me no choice. I can't abandon them and you can not join me in my exile. What choice do I have?"

Ten could see the distress in his face. She took in a sigh as she listened to him beg for her understanding, that he truly loved her, but could not be with her. "So what do we do? Is this goodbye Nine?" She approached her husband, rubbing her hand up and down his arm while starring down at the ground. " Is There no way for me to ever see you? For us to lay side by side for a night and embrace one another?" She looked up at her husband's eyes for a moment than leaned her face into his chest as she pulled him close from around the waist. Ten held back her tears the best she could, but obviously lost the battle with her eyes and sobbed into him. She felt defeated. She had never been defeated. She was one of the strongest women in the land. That's Why she didn't understand why she couldn't help him through whatever he needed, why couldn't he tell her 100% what was going on? This is not where she saw them in their later years. They had run kingdoms, fought in battles, raised a son. She was done fighting, or, she thought she was until today.

"Time changes all things. In time we can be together again. But not now. Not yet. I have not done enough yet." Nine spoke slowly knowing his answer would not be enough, but it was the only one he had. For a man who could travel through time and see every possible outcome he had not seen this happening. He had not wanted to so he hadn't. For they had done and would do he could not find an answer that he could use to convince himself to leave his exile.

Ten took a step back as she wiped her eyes with her arm, still holding onto his waist. "as long as you promise to be together again, than this is goodbye, for now." She gave him a small kiss and took a step back from him, giving him permission to leave her.

Nine didn't say another word because he didn't want to risk lying to his wife. He just nodded to her and then walked away, vanishing into the forest. He had work to do. Enemies to slaughter. He knew what was coming for the Zaibatsu. He knew that they would face a threat stronger than them. Peace had cost them their strength even if they couldn't admit it. Victory had defeated them. That was why he sent his son. He sent his son to do damage control so he would not have to. There were still other threat throughout all of time that would plague the Zaibatsu. Nine stopped some, but the darkness forced him to allow certain threats to pass. Only threats he knew they could beat. But he was unsure about this one.

What Nine didn't realize, was the fury in the heart of Ten. Her anger towards the Zaibatsu flourished even more than before. She watched her husband disappear into the darkness. She stood in the forest, silently, absorbing everything that had just happened into her thoughts. She looked to her right, seeing the Zaibatsu kingdom, than to her left, looking towards the direction of the Doma. What Nine didn't know was that if and when he did return, his precious Zaibatsu would be gone, if Ten had anything to do with it, and then, take down the Doma from the inside out herself. Her powers would never be underestimated. Ten headed out on her journey on foot towards the Doma, to join forces with a side she once despised, in an attempt to seek annihilation on the Zaibatsu. *exits*

Eeven ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"I know, I've seen them. It was part of my first evaluation of you." Eleven referred to the personal things in her mind. He always went through the mind's of the people he met because he needed to determine if they were a threat. Sometimes he rushed the process causing pain, pleasure, or indifference but Nora had been around him long enough that he managed to take his time. Her story was a sad one but his face did not show any signs that it had moved him. He was not his father and had not ever been to the realm his people were from. He hadn't seen the darkness his father had. Which left one wondering, Why was he the way that he was? Why didn't things move him like they should have? He didn't give Nora time to ask herself these questions before he responded again "I can't forgive, because I never forget. I will never forget what my mother is going to do. I will not hold it against her she has a right to make her choices, but I wont stand with her and I will not support her." Eleven looked around where they were in the forest. "Is this a good enough place for you to rest? It seems safe enough."

❝ "How do you even know she will do anything? She hasn't yet." Nora stopped and turned and faced Eleven. She cuffed his face in her hand, speaking to him as she looked into his eyes. "Forgiveness isn't for her. It's a gift you are giving yourself." Nora smiled, this was something she wanted him to understand as she let down her hand. She than looked around. "This is fine by me." She assumed they would sleep on the ground, or against a tree.
Nora turned to look at him and smiled while making a joke. "No magic carpet to lay on?" ❞

Eleven waved his hand and a carpet appeared on the ground. "You could have asked for a bed." He didn't respond to what she had said about forgiveness. It was something he had no place for. When you forgive someone you turn a blind eye to what they are and what they have done. Then they can stab you in the back a second time. No one stabbed him in the back twice. "Get some rest." With that said Eleven turned away from Nora towards the vast forest around them. He had received Loki's message and sent one in response. "I have met with my mother but I fear I may have gone too early. She had barriers to keep me from reading her mind so I was forced to look through her past. What I know is that the Doma is currently operating at a capacity equal to the one it was working at during the war. They are only getting stronger. Their leaders name eluded me but her face did not. All I can really tell you is that it is a dark haired female. Their goals are hard to predict but I imagine it involves a lot of destruction and little rebuilding. Loki be careful who you tell these things to. I want to trust the students but today I have been forced to make hard choices. Leaving the Doma agent alive at the graduation was one of those choices. make sure you were not followed." Leaving the agent alive had been bothering him for some time but now it was too late to do anything about it.
