Haides didn't shy from her touch, but he did seem a little puzzled. As she spoke, his expression softened ever so slightly. He lightly rested his head across her neck, sighing quietly. "Senka... I don't see anything you need to apologize for," he replied gently. "I am... so relieved that you're alright..." It was relieving, knowing that he had a blood relative. It wasn't that he had anything against his adopted family; they were wonderful, despite his stubbornness. But something inside him had yearned to find the family he'd lost, to reclaim the bonds that had been severed. Reuniting with Senka, even though his other siblings were still missing, had lifted the weight of his worries off of his shoulders. It had kindled the candle-sized hope that he could find them. If Senka was alive and well, maybe the others were too...

Sorry for what? For leaving him behind to face their mother's death alone. For running off and then not even returning to see what had transpired with her own eyes. For never guessing that he could have been alive, that all of them might still be alive. Somehow, she did not think that there were any words she could use to convey this. Haides would not think an apology for such was necessary. Instead, she turned to her sudden and intense need to know everything, to know that he, at least, had lived well.
"What happened after that?"

"With Mother dead and the others taken, there was no point in staying there. So I started wandering. I didn't really have a goal in mind... I didn't know where the others had been taken, so I wasn't able to follow after them." Even if he had, there wouldn't have been a point. He'd been a blanket, after all; there hadn't been any way for him to his siblings. "For a while... I just moved without any real purpose beyond finding life other than my own. ... Then I found Beta." He instinctively paused at that point, as if Beta would appear and introduce herself.
Closing his eyes, he continued. "When I first spotted her, I was too tired to talk, so I simply curled up by her blanket and fell asleep." He opened his eyes again, hooves digging lightly into the ground as he glared into the distance. "She was... alone like I was, but for a different reason. Her mother had abandoned her. Apparently she told Beta to wait for her, and then left with Beta's brothers. It was days afterward when I found her. I started taking care of her, and when she was well enough, we headed North. A mare named Serenity found us and adopted us." His expression softened and a slight smile played on his lips. "I ended up with a lot of sisters." Looking thoughtful, he spoke on. "After that, not much happened that was of any real interest. I spent time with Beta and my adopted family... I met Jaromila... and when I was grown, I decided to travel."

The mare was terribly relieved to learn that this brother, at least, had managed to live a good life with a good family. Pulling away from their embrace, she offered him a smile. "I am glad."
There was so much she wanted to ask him, about his childhood, his adoptive family, about everything. She hardly knew where to begin.
"Who is Jaromila?" she decided upon at last. That was the only name mentioned that had no explanation attached to it.

"She's by other best friend besides Beta," Haides explained. "She was... one of the only ones I felt comfortable talking to when I was a colt. Beta calls us soul mates."

"Oh?" She would have to make it a point to meet this mare someday. Her brother's soul mate. She hardly knew what to think. Of course, she was glad for him, but she also felt the usual sisterly protectiveness. This Jiromila had best be good for her brother, even if they were not yet mates, as he seemed to indicate.
"And now? Why do you choose to wander?"

Haides nodded, then thought about his sister's question. "There are several reasons. One is that... I think it will help me determine where I want to go from here. Another is... I guess I just wanted a break." In some ways, it was both a journey and a vacation; he was searching for answers, but he was also getting some time away from the family and friends at home.

"Fair enough," she agreed. "I am searching for something myself." There was a pensive look about her as she mused on the insistent pull her heart was feeling. How long, now, since she first felt the call of her soul to her chosen human? How much longer until she found her? She could only pray that it would be before either succumbed to despair.

"What are you looking for?" Haides inquired. "Maybe I could be of some assistance." It was worth trying. If he could do something to help his sister, he would.

"I don't think so," she said with a wistful smile. "It's something I have to do for myself. I'm searching for the other half of my soul, you see." Would he understand the reference? If he did, then would he hate her for seeking a human after what they had done to their father?

Haides nodded his understanding. "... I see." His expression softened slightly. "You should try farther north. That's where the most of the humans are. My adopted family is there as well; if you need a place to stay, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help." He nudged her gently. "I wish you luck in your search."

Senka's eyes communicated her relief and gratitude as she returned the nudge. "Thank you."
However, she was stricken by the sudden panicked notion that if she let him out of her sight, he would disappear again. It took her this long just to find out he was alive. How much longer until she found him again? "Where will you go?"

"Farther south, I think." Haides calmly looked down at her. "Then I'll head back north again." He still had a bit of the isle to travel to.

A flicker of fear danced across her eyes before quickly disappearing.
"Will I see you again?" she wondered hesitantly. "How will I find you?"

Haides blinked. "If that is what you wish, there's no reason you cannot see me again." He looked up into the sky. "I don't plan on traveling forever. If you're searching for the other half of your soul, you'll be in the north. I don't know where I'll end up settling, but when I do, I'll come find you."
