Ama's expression was at first astonished and then sad. For him to move from such a wonderful herd to this one, the story had to have a sad ending. It was inevitable. Her ears fell out to the side, hanging, as she tried to imagine what must of happened to make them flee, why the forest would hurt them or drive them out. It made her think, what if theirs did the same thing to them? Would this home not be there permanently for all of them to live in happiness too?
"I'm sorry Daddy. That must be very sad for you..."
Looking to the side, she delved in to the rest of what he had told her. Trying to find the good, the happy within the sad;like the prince! Such a curious word for someone. Alpha, she had heard that name used for the chain of command a couple of times however they didn't have one and prince sounded just the same in authority. "What's a prince?" She finally asked to break the lingering silence and to cut the sombre air in half. Her eyes went back to his figure. She held on to that thought as the forest came to her mind. An old forest. How the one that surrounded them smelled fresh and full of life, how that one must of smelled even more beautiful from it's matured stature... That or gross and musky.
She let out a chuckle. "If it didn't happen, then you and mummy wouldn't be here with us. All together, so happy." Her little leaf butt wiggled as they walked, attitude quickly finding it's lively spring again. Dull spirit could never possess Amaltheia for long, it didn't seem to be in her nature. As for her siblings, she knew no different. She knew the three sisters were different to the rest of them however Ama would always accept them as her brothers and sisters, regardless of their heritage. Even if one day, how their parents differed was to come out in the open.sbuggy166 Sorry this took so long! Had my hands full over christmas and new years. Replies will be back to normal again now. <3

attentive once again. Kenton looked down and smiled at the little foal. for in every bad thing that happened in his life he was rewarded tenfold by blessings. "It was sad at first, but im glad it happened because here with you and mommy and our family and our herd i could not be happier."
it was still early in the morning, but Kenton knew that he would be getting back later than expected of him. he just hoped that the other patrols would not panic. it was best to keep moving, and they were getting closer to the edge now, not quite so far into the woods. he could ease up a bit now because this part of the woods was not as menacing. "And as for a prince, he is kind of like the Alpha of the herd, except that he is over many different herds. the Alpha of a herd goes to the prince if they ever need guidance or if they need to be corrected. think of him as the Alpha of the Alphas."

Amaltheia gave a happy little smile to him when he told her that he couldn't be happier. She was glad because they were happy even after all that sadness had once been apart of their life. She couldn't even begin to understand what it must of been like or how it would of felt to have been in such a situation. To have to leave your home, your loved ones and start fresh. She was only just a foal but she would grow to be an adult just like them and have to make those tough decisions for herself. She hoped however that she would never end up in the same predicament.
That would be the hardest thought to bare.
As they moved through the wood, Ama could see the dominating light that blanketed the plain. That meant that the herd wasn't far away at all and patrol was almost finished. They were almost there, without any hiccups or bad soquili that had jumped out to surprise them. She knew it wouldn't always be like this but she was happy, that she had completed her first patrol run and had gotten to spend the day with her daddy. She had learned so much, too.
Her ears swivelled. The Alpha of Alpha's. She liked that term however she had never heard such a thing before now. The leaders go to a leader bigger than even them? She tilted her head. "Will we have an Alpha one day?" She asked softly. "Will they have to travel to see the prince?" How did one even become an Alpha? She always assumed daddy was their leader, since many looked up to him.

And there they were, right at the edge of the forest. from here he could see the herd and he felt much better. he stopped at the edge because he still wanted to spend some time with Ama, and he felt ok doing so because he could see that others had still not come back yet so he was not missed. everything was ok and Cali would hopefully not chew his head off for allowing Ama to go with him. even if she did it would be worth it because it was fun to get to talk to her just one on one.
"We will one day. But finding an alpha is not something to take lightly. the alpha has to be someone who is strong and can make decisions, but they also have to be able to listen. they dont run around making decisions by themselves, they listen to what i have to say and what your mother has to say and what the advisors have to say and then they make the best decision based off of what they know." at this point Kenton was not worried at all that she could not follow what he was saying. she was quick and smart, and very deductive...she could even be of use to the herd maybe when she was older. that was an idea that he would have to bring up with Cali at some point. "and there is no prince now, not in these lands. things here are different than when i was little. here it is just the alpha."

Finally, the trail had come to an end. When they stopped walking that is when Ama felt the intense ache of the consistency patrol demanded. That was why it had been so tiring. Now they were at the edge and the herd was in sight, her father had eased greatly. His once rushed pace was now halted. She took this chance to stretch out her front legs and then in turn, gently kicked out one back leg at a time. Shaking herself off finally, a small squeak sound escaped her.
She felt better for it and now, she realised how much she really had enjoyed the run, despite how much her body protested the needed effort to maintain such a task.
Having a prince to turn to, to report to sounded like such a magical idea however it was now apparent that only the cerynei had such historical figure to pass on in stories like a myth or legend. These parts only had one leader to a herd. She understood that perfectly, soaking up all the information like a little sponge. She smiled at the fact the Alpha had to listen to everyone's opinion first, that meant they had to be a wonderful person. Otherwise, why would anybody look to them in time of need or crisis. Even for general matters.
"Everyone here is wonderful." She though aloud, looking to her father. "It would be so hard to make only one of them Alpha, when there are so many good people to choose from." This, she beamed at. Although, everybody always seemed happy with how things were, either that or busy. She would make it her goal to get to know all of them. There were so many in the herd and new members making there face known as days went by that Ama hadn't had chance yet to properly get to know them all.
"I think I know what I want to be when I grow big." She blinked a couple of times, looking down to the grass beneath them with a shy smile. She wasn't sure what anybody would think to her idea or decision but it was something that had appealed to her the most. "Like the Alpha has to listen to everybody's suggestions... I think I want to be an Advisor, like River... To help protect the herd and make sure that all the amazing members here stay safe!"
The more she thought about it, the more determined she became. She even gave a firm nod to confirm.

Kenton had to suppress a chuckle. Here he was thinking about how his daughter could be useful to the herd and then there she goes saying that she wants to be an adviser. it really was ironic, but he was proud of her. at such a young age she already had ideas of what she wanted to do and how she could help. he knew that his other children did not have this sort of vision. but you cant expect all kids to be the same, everyone has their own personalities, and their own destinies.
"Thats quite a thing to say. if you are sure about it though then im sure that River would have no problem teaching you a thing or two about how to give advise." a thought popped into his mind and he fave a little chuckle. "in fact, we can practice right now..." Kenton took a few steps back and then facing Ama knelt down low in a bow. his large antlers fell on either side of her wheh he reached the lowest point of his bow. he then looked up, eye level with Ama and asked, "Advisor i wish to speak to you about something that has been troubling my mind. earlier today i kidnapped my daughter and took her on a patrol. Adviser i wish to seek your advise on how i should best explain the foals absence to my mate." he then stood. he was of course just being funny, but it was a valid question.

Amaltheia was a little nervous, waiting for her father to give a reply. Her parents opinions meant a lot to her, they were the ones she looked up to and turned to for guidance when she needed it. They always knew just what to say and it was something she admired, to be so wise as to comfort and motivate others. Even if it was just by the sound of their voice sometimes. She gave a slight smile, turning her head back to him as he started to speak as the feeling of his eyes never left. Ears lifting at the sound of River's name being mentioned.
She almost gasped, jaw dropping however she was practically rendered speechless for a moment. He hadn't told her not to go for it, he gave a sure answer that River may also be happy to help her on her way. He was supporting her? Her smile indefinitely widened, an energy to marvel at flowing through her tossing away that tiredness that had gripped her earlier, making it harder for her to stay in one spot. She chuckled when he chuckled, the gentle humour infectious.
It was soon stopped when he mentioned practising, now panic swept through her. Little heart pounding in her chest as she gulped and pulled her head back . Oh no! She was frozen as he moved, bowing before her and watching as his antlers curled around her sides. It had taken her more by surprise than anything yet. At that point, it struck the filly just how big her father was compared to her that even his antlers were only a short ways away from being the size of her entirely. The act of it however, seen by anyone else, had to be the sweetest thing you had ever seen.
"Ok." She nodded, trying to mentally prepare herself as she waited for the question. When it came, the panic was swept away and a giggle was left in it's place. How could she not giggle, it wasn't what she had been expecting at all! She watched as he stepped back, a newly placed grin was now on her maw that wasn't going to shake off so easily. "Hmm.." She started, gaining eye contact. "You could say to her that, you wished to show your daughter the requirements and measures needed for patrol." She paused a moment. "One day, she will need to take on various duties herself like all the other herd members and it's better now that she learns because she has longer to learn the routines?" The last part was more of a question because she wanted to make it her best effort even if her father was being playful and since it was her first time ever being asked for advise she was still unsure of herself and the capabilities needed to be an advisor.
"Taking her a certain flower of choice couldn't hurt as well" She let out a playful laughter, not being able to hold out on adding it in. "Should we go find her favourite?" She asked, feeling kind of bad. She hoped that she hadn't gotten her father in trouble after everything they had done today. That was something that hadn't really popped in to mind when she set out to find him this morning. sbuggy166 I almost doubled over when I read your post, it was super adorable! I awwwed so much over it. XD <33

There she did it again. this little foal sounded so sophisticated in her answer that Kenton almost felt compelled to obey. and obey he did. he bowed deeply once more and gave Ama a little nudge on the way up. "Once again you astound me with your wise words of wisdom. a flower we shall find and present it to my mate we shall."
he looked around to see if there were any flowers close by. it was already getting to be morning and he did not want to keep Cali waiting any longer so running off into the forest would not do. oh, but they were in luck. there was a little patch of flowers growing at the edge of the woods they had just come out of. he walked over to them and picked out the best looking one. it was a small white flower that looked bright against the morning sun. "Ama, remeber this. sometimes the larger flower seems like the best option because it is beautiful, but you will discover too late that inside the flower dwells biting insects. picking a small flower not only shows your affection, but shows the deepness of your love because you took the time to find a perfect flower regardless of the size."

Ama grinned in achievement as her father nudged her and replied with such praise. Watching as he bowed to her once more and then walked past her. She followed instinctively, more curious about what he had his eyes on. He looked as if he knew exactly where he was going. She tried to peer around his much larger frame but settled for waiting until he stopped in his tracks before moving to stand at his side.
He plucked a small flower from a patch before him, as white as winters snow. It gave a brilliant glow in the spotlight of the suns rays that peaked through the canopy. She twisted her head up to look at her father as he started speaking, keen to listen to the advice he had to give. She nodded, carefully listening and then smiled warmly. She picked up on the meaning in his words, that the most beautiful things in life were the little things and that the obvious may not always be what it appeared to be.
"It is beautiful." She chuckled. "Mummy will love it."

sbuggy166 Kenton grinned, the flower carefully held between his teeth. "alright them my love, let us go and put our combined knowledge to the test. with your smarts and my charm we should be able to wiggle our way our out of being punished too harshly." Kenton winked at her and then then headed off to their nest were he could already see that Cali was awake. he knew that she would not be to mad at him, but never the less it was a good lesson for his daughter to learn. its never safe to run off on your own without telling anyone. he was secretly glad she did though, for he would remember this day for many years to come. it was a special day that even though nothing exciting happened he was able to spend time with little Ama.
