Your shield just doesn't work on fear weapons, correct?
I protect you from more than just hunter weapons and Halloweeners. She can't do anything.
I wouldn't say anything, but that is reassuring to know.
Her laugh had him simply watching her, wondering how close to HIS space she was going to enter. "You find yourself awfully amusing, don't you? Different tactics for different people, I suppose." He left it at that.
At her question, he thought about it. "It would probably require you to use a golem and go into town. See if there is anything they use to boost Fear or change their fear somehow. Maybe someone in their world that knows how to capture or manipulate fear themselves either for fighting or to apply to other creatures. There probably is a field here or there for it, but it would probably require some clearance, research, and taking a few golem trips to find out what you could buy and testing it out." It sounded like a very strange shopping trip.
"As for minipets, I suppose that much like how a weapon hits a Halloweener to get Fear, you could maybe do the same for minipets. If you could somehow have the fear you take from a minipet forced into a item, eating it, storing it, you could maybe then take that stored fear and apply it to a weapon as a power up of some sort. I don't know how effective that could even be or if it would even work. The only way our weapons can do it is because they were once Halloweeners themselves and can take in that Fear. All the buffs we have at the moment are runic weapons. You should check with weapons and also runic weapons to see how they use fear to store it and if minipets could be applied to that. It would probably be a collaboration of a lot of different data." He finished off another equation.
"You like people to be in debt to you? That power and possibility to make him do anything? Is that it?" He asked, again looking to her. As much as he didn't get it when Rep said it, he was getting a 'gut feeling' right about now. "I don't think anything is simple with you."

"Wrong. I take myself very seriously, Melvin. It's everyone else that I find amusing. Despite what you've heard - likely from Rep - I'm not a mindless killer."
Sasha paused a few feet away, crossed her arms over her chest. It was obvious that she was finished with the talk about minipets.
"Is there something on your mind, Melvin? This is simply a friendly, theoretical conversation between peers, exchanging ideas and information. I have no ulterior motives, no designs on you."
She lifted a brow.
"I'm an open book, in all honesty."

He had to snort at that last part. Open book his a**. No one who was planning favors showed all their cards, especially when she seemed up to something. Still, he'd test her and see what he could get from her. He was, as always, curious.
"Alright." He took off his glasses and lifted them up to rest atop his crown. "Do you always go around stabbing pillowcases and feeling up guys in the infirmary to make their skin crawl? I haven't know you long enough to know if you were just a psychopath from birth or if this was just a recent development." She might not be a "mindless killer", but you could be a killer with a mind. He'd like to know what sort of person he was sharing lab equipment with from time to time.

"Before I answer that, I want to know what you were told."
She tapped her fingers against the tabletop.
"If we need to, we can start at the beginning."
The truth of the matter was that Sasha really did have nothing to hide. She'd already bared herself on the Zen campout to Rep, so she had no fear of anything getting back to Rep.
"The only thing that's off limits - which I'm sure you'll understand - is my love life. I keep that personal. Everything else?"
Sasha shrugged.
"What do you know about me, Melvin?"

"I have no interested in your love life, Sasha. Leave that to twitter and all the other useless gossip on this island. From what I know is what little I heard from Rep, which really is nothing. You have to turn him about some before he says anything. From what I could make, it all happened from a series of very minor events that pissed each of you off and escalated quickly to now. Something about a flute?" That was all he knew, and while usually he didn't like revealing he knew little on a subject, she seemed to be happy to spill everything. Melvin was happy to take that offer.
"So start from the beginning if you'd like." The click of his mental recorded started and the small tape started to turn.

"I don't know my parents. The man who I thought was my papa - my father - wasn't. He was nothing but a drunk, abusive ******** that I lived my entire life trying to make happy. Trying to prove myself."
This was all information she'd given not only to Rep, but to Harrison, Ami, Rin, Jerry. Anyone who had tagged along on the Zenquest had heard this particular sob story.
"I had a flute - Jerry has it now - a beautiful piece that was given to me. Gold coated, lovely. Expensive, at that."
She grunted softly.
"Rep tripped me one day. I was a stupid, stupid waste of breath back then. Eager to believe in the good in everyone, eager to make people happy. I was doing minor work for the Doctor - fetching his tea, his coffee, his meals, providing his shaves. I was delivering his tea when Rep tripped me. Infantile, really, but I tainted his cocoa with laxative. He stole my flute."
Sasha sounded bored.
"Things escalated from there."

"So this was all a fight that escalated to something aggressive like how most things do here?" Sounded like people fighting violently like everyone did here. He sorted through what she said and focused on other parts.
"So now you don't believe in the good in people and making people happy? Is that why Jerry has your flute? Couldn't sing a happy tune anymore and pawned it off?" If it was as beautiful and expensive as she said, why give it to the Jerry? Just because he was a music-lover or did she just decide it was good for bartering when in a tight spot?

Sasha laughed softly, humorlessly.
"Rep killed someone on a mission. He was cuffed, his weapon abilities suppressed. The doctor sent him to me - Rep needed me to sponsor him in order to use runic weapons. I refused."
She lifted the treble clef that rested against her chest, pressing it against her chin.
"This last time, when everyone's weapons were tableted, Rep tried to stab me. He thought I was weaponless, shieldless. That knife, the one I left for him in his pillow? That was the knife he tried to stab me with. Here," she gestured, pressing slender fingers against her hip.
"He would have killed me."
She fell silent for a moment.
"I believe in making myself happy. Jerry has my flute because.. it represents a part of me that never existed. I didn't pawn it," she shot him a disparaging look, "but he was.. we were together for a long while. Before things changed."

"And now you're playing this violent game between the Sun." Melvin waited a moment, looking at her and thinking as he clicked his pen a few times. "You and Rep are pretty ******** up." It was an observation, but not a final conclusion. "But that works here I suppose."
He turned back to his binder, turning a page to work on a graph he'd need later. Despite not talking about personal life, she mentioned her and Jerry, and he had to pause again and look at her.
"You and Jerry were messing around?" He looked her over. "That's a bit hard to imagine." Not that he wanted to, but the fact that Sasha was well dressed and groomed and Jerry looked like an alcoholic train wreak just didn't match. She certainly traded down, but then again, maybe that was why he looked like a complete mess.
He knew Jerry to some extent from questing and felt that if he asked about flutes, maybe he could see this infamous one of Sasha's to see what the deal was about.

"I never ******** Jerry."
She didn't argue the comment about being ******** up. It was what it was, and Sasha didn't expect anyone to understand it.
"We shared similar interests. That's all."
For not talking about love lives, she was doing an awful lot of it.
"Anything else?"

He turned back to his binder, turning the page to start filling in some blanks. "Nooope." He told her, satisfied for now about what they had talked about. The fact she wasn't going to come at him with a meat cleaver was assuring enough for today.
"Anything else you need to know?" He asked.

"No. If I go to the other side, would you be interested in tagging along? It could benefit us both."
She pushed off of the table and took a few steps back.

Sasha gave Melvin a rather droll look.
"To Halloween. I have some research to do, and I figured I'd bring back a handful of minipets."

He looked back at the tanks and back at her. "I could use a bit of on the field work." He admitted, though kept in mind that he was probably on his own in terms of safety. Reaching into his pocket, he set it on the table. "You can text me with whatever plans you have." He told her.
