Trust was everything for Rep, and a lot of the time a great deal of that trust was based on sheer gut instinct. If for even a second he doubted the earnestness of someone's words, was uncertain of their intent, he would be numb to anything they had to say to him and shut them out. It was how he spent most of his life, doubting and suspecting everyone he felt he didn't fully understand. With Allan there was no doubt at all, there was something in his naivety that left no room in Rep's mind for ulterior motives, no room for suspicion. Critical and derisive of everyone else, it didn't matter to him in the least that the sun lead maybe used a different vocabulary than everyone else on the island. Hell, he did too half the time, thanks to where he came from. It was the meaning that counted.
He hadn't noticed his picture on the wall before, but as he did, he was filled with a level of pride most people reserved for winning some kind of major scientific award or winning an Olympic gold. It was the simple things that made all the difference to him - things most people neglected to consider. He'd been expecting to be admonished, condemned for his mistake with Rin - to be met with disappointment. Scolding always made him withdraw, knocked his confidence and made it harder for him to recover. Instead Allan did what he did best, what he had always did best. He made Rep feel confident instead, like he could prove himself, like there was still something worth saving in him. Confident, not arrogant, he wanted to get better.
Worry had been etched on his features but it melted away in the wake of a grinning enthusiasm, a broad and genuine smile he couldn't have fought if he tried. He had people to regain the trust of.
"Thank you ." It was a laden statement, he owed the other man a lot, he'd reoriented him in the right direction more times than he deserved. It was as sentimental as Rep permitted himself to be, but the childish grin, devoid of his usual resentful and guarded walls probably said more than the words did anyway.
"I'm banned from the sparring fields." he went on, his tone brighter "Which I think was, like all things considered, a fair call. Other guys probably weren't like, the best choice for training. Is there like. Is there anywhere other than shadow run where its like, possible to get a charge up to practice well..steering it."
He waved a hand vaguely. "Without getting distracted by moving, or hurting people."

Allan chuckled fondly, though it seemed a little sad. "You remind me of someone, a good someone, he was a good nakama of mine, so I'll use his words. Never give up! If you find yourself too dangerous, ask yourself why, fight yourself, your kokoro with it, and then use it to make yoursel stronger, both inside and out. If you can't fight with others, if that is for the best, then train with yourself first to learn the most valuable lesson of fighting of when. When do you use your power to the best of your ability, when do you know exactly how to help your nakama."
The Sun Lead took a thoughtful gulp of his drink, placed the empty bottle down, and pulled out a blank sheet of paper. "All right Rep-kun! I am assigning you to a mission, a very important one!" He grabbed the closest thing to him, a crayon, and began scribbling madly on the paper before handing it over a few good moments later.
On the paper wrote some words in jumbled order: Mision from Allan-taichou ^_____^
Apogliz Apollog TELL RIN-CHAN YOU ARE VERY SORRY
"You think you can complete this mission, Rep-kun of the Sun Division?" Allan was all seriousness.

Rep gave Allan a broad smile as he offered his advice, hanging on every word. When people he respected gave him opinions, he took it more to heart than was really apparent. He found himself wondering fleetingly how many nakama Allan had lost in this division and how he kept so upbeat despite it all. Maybe he just didn't dwell on it, the same way Rep still tried not to think about Killzone and the others he'd witnessed die in the line of duty.
When to fight. That probably was important, he figured as a general rule Sun hunters always fought regardless, but if Allan said it wasn't as simple as that, that there was a deeper inner conflict and judgement involved,then maybe there was more of a trick to it than "Hit everything, including allies".
At the mention of a mission he stood up a little straighter, peering at the paper, mouthing the words as he read it, before smiling and saluting, carefully stowing it away in a pocket. Yeah. Apology really was probably the best place to start. Apology first, sorting out his own more selfish issues afterwards.
"I think I can do that sir. Consider it done."

The Sun lead smiled, patting Rep on the back. "Only when you reach into your kokoro and be honest with your friends, show that you care can you understand what it means for you to trust them as much as they trust you. Of course - this is a very serious issue, hurting your friends is also hurting yourself. Allan-taichou appreciates you telling me however, it is a step. The next step is learning how to control your restless spirit, and that will take both patience, practice and care."
Rep was given a small nudge and a wink. "Now I believe your nakama is waiting for you. We are all family after all."Baneful Wrap up and then I think we're doneee
