Lex made a very frustrated noise that almost sounded like a horse's whinny, before setting down the mug and steeling himself. Fortunately for all parties involved, Ami was wearing a longer skirt today. He put a hand under her legs, another under her back, and lifted her up princess style, completely unphased by the ensuing screams.
"Room number, or I'm carrying you over my shoulder."

Ami's eyes snapped open as she felt hands pulling her out of her seat. Of course, as expected, she kicked and squirmed and yelled profanities at him. She didn't want to be carried around by this ogre of a man. No way in hell.
She was tired though. A girl running on 3 hours of sleep could only kick so much before she was panting and blinking furiously to try and keep herself energized. Ohhhh this wasn't fair!
Eventually she just settled into his arms and stubbornly said, "122." She was looking quite angrily at the ground, forcing herself not to meet her gaze. This was barbaric and rude.

Barbaric and rude? Possibly. Effective? Totally. They were at her room in a few minutes, with Lex actually putting her inside the sheets, and giving her a very firm and very hard look.
"Get to bed Ami. Think of it this way; you can't really perform to your fullest if you're lacking sleep. And if you don't perform to your fullest, you have me, Marcus, and the Doctor on your case." He walked out, letting that thought sink in.
Then he called through the door.
"And so help me if you try to walk out, I'll find Marcus somehow." And then he stood there, outside Ami's room, as if he were daring her to try it.

Ami squirmed out of his grasp the moment he relented. There was a man in her room and worse yet, one she didn't like. He was tucking her in and being all too familiar. In a distant world maybe she would have thought it was sweet, but she was simply too guarded.
As soon as he moved towards the door, Ami got up. She heard his words, but they were a bit of a blur as she walked towards her small bookshelf she'd had Marcus create for her.
She realized the footsteps had stopped and that Lex was just standing there. "What?!" she said accusingly. "I'm getting a book." A stubborn look down. "If I wake up I want something to do." Insomnia. A blessing and curse.

Lex just huffed and rolled his eyes, crossing his arms. She may not have liked him, and he may not have been her very best friend - but he did like to see people he knew in good health, and Ami was being quite a detriment to that. 'Just in case she woke up.' More like 'I'm not going to bed, I'm just going to read.'
Well, it was better than her exhausting herself with studying and experimenting. He shook his head, and gave a flippant have of his hand. Whatever.
"Fine, fine. Let images of Mr. Darcy swarm your mind, plaguing you with his blatant cowardice and obvious misogyny." He grumbled, walking out the door and closing it.
Speaking of reading....he needed to pick up a recreational book, just in case he ever got bored. They had Historical Fictions, right?

It was one thing to insult her. One thing to insult her sleep habits, her turtle habits.
Another entirely to insult a book.
As soon as Lex had the door closed, Ami had it opened. "Take it back! Take it back right now!" Sleeping lion apparently cared very much about her Darcy.

Lex stared at Ami, smirking even. Oh, so that was how you woke up the sleeping lion. Bait her more? Possibly.
But she needed to sleep.
But Darcy was an awful, good for nothing.
Augh, he couldn't let it die.
"Take what back? The fact that Mr. Darcy is a worthless man who couldn't admit to the fact that a woman was obviously more intelligent, skilled, and worth more to society than he? Darcy was a stubborn fool that had to be changed to even become slightly worthy of Miss Bennet."
Boom, literature class.

Ami got so frustrated that she just threw the book at him. "I am NEVER EVER giving back your atrocious jacket."
She at least had a hostage. With a huff she moved to shove past him and go back to work. She was done entertaining him.

Lex wasn't having any more of this crap. He blocked her attempt, giving her a very weary and just plain done look.
"Ami, why are you refusing to be healthy?"

"Because there's no ******** point!" she screamed. She had no idea why she kept trying to push past him. There was literally no chance unless she shot him, and unbeknownst to Lex you weren't ACTUALLY supposed to pull weapons without reason.
She smacked his chest again. "Not when there's a clock counting down the days 'til they make me go in those ******** pods!" A shove with her shoulder. "So maybe I like to stay up more than I should? Did it ever occur to you that it's because it's the ONLY TIME I HAVE LEFT."
Ami knew there was no point to this. She just looked at Lex desolately and smacked him hard across the face, and then turned to go back to her room.

Alarm bells went whirring, all signs were showing that they'd reached red alert here. Ami was actually trying to hurt him. The logical woman, in all her petiteness, was trying to put a dent in the giant in front of her, like David did to Goliath. The problem was that Lex wasn't threatening the Israelites, and God apparently wasn't blessing the short woman the way he did David.
Her words registered clearly enough, but Lex wasn't going to pursue this time. The lioness had roared, and threatened. He wasn't wanted, and never would be.
Dejectedly, he walked away, holding his hand to the petite red bruise that made its home on his face. He smiled sadly, rolling his neck as he walked back to the labs. May as well fetch her research before some Death a****d took it for their own use.

Later that day, Ami would find her important documents in an inconspicuous blue folder that had been slid under the door crack.
