Yareha was both alarmed and reassured by Latitare's familiarity with what Tarsa was describing. This went against everything he had ever known, yet it did make a kind of sense, the way she described it. He could understand what she meant by not viewing herself as a rogue...it was the visions themselves he had a problem with.
"But how can people have these visions?" he persisted. It made no sense! People didn't just...have visions! Well, okay, maybe if the Great Lion blessed a Priest of some sort, but that was the only way Yareha could see it happening!
Latitare nodded in agreement as the lioness elaborated. She had a nice succinct way to describe her abilities, probably from having done this before.
"Some people are born Seers. They just are," he told the other lion. No one had ever put forth a more logical explanation in Latitare's hearing, otherwise the eagle would have been happy to share it.

Tarsa couldn't help herself; she laughed a bit!
"Simply put, my father is a god. My sisters and I were born with a sliver of his power, having visions of the past and future. Many of them fear it, and we're for the most part left alone by them." She shrugged, guessing that he wouldn't take it well. Those that didn't understand visions understood gods even less so.
"It is stronger if I touch you, but that is too invasive of a stranger's past, or even future."
Still...she was impressed with how much the eagle knew! She was taking notes of this, wondering if it would be strategic for herself if she gained a feathered ally in the future.

Now Yareha knew the lioness had to be lying to him. Claiming her father was a god! He could understand if, say, the royal line of the Mwezi'Johari had inserted the Great Lion somewhere at the top of their ancestry to strengthen their claim. But to meet some random rogue who claimed to have a godly father? That was just patently ridiculous.
"Right," he replied, in the tone of one who does not for a moment believe what they're hearing. "So you're saying some lion came around, claimed to be a god, knocked up your mother and now you have visions of people's past and future." The white lion snorted. "Yeah, right."
Latitare wasn't sure how to respond to Yareha's patent disbelief. It wasn't something he'd ever brought up before, but as an avian himself, his prayers went to the Goddess of Birds, rather than the Great Lion of the Mwezi'Johari. And to tell the truth, the eagle thought he was better off than his friend, since there were legends about times the Goddess had come to earth and acted on her subjects' behalf. He'd not once heard such a tale about the Great Lion.
But he wasn't sure it was his place to destroy his friend's beliefs.

Tarsa's eyes narrowed. Well, its what she suspected.
"I'm not proud to call the god of Chaos my father. He is not something that anyone would strive to be. I, unfortunately, get to see some of the things he does to us 'mere mortals', and I wouldn't wish it on anyone." Her ears snapped back for a moment, irritated. She knew that the situation between her mother and him was....decent...but he was not an innocent fluffy thing, like some strange rogues thought all gods must be.
"I could prove more to you, but I'm not here to upset you," she said with a shrug as she tested her sore paw. Still bad, but she could hobble on it for a while once she was ready to move. Whew.

God of Chaos? Really? Who would worship such a ridiculous creature, assuming one even existed? Okay, yes, it was strange that Tarsa seemed to know as much as she claimed to about his life, but there were rational, if implausible, explanations for that.
Asking him to believe her father was a god was just going too far.
"If you didn't want to upset me, you wouldn't feed me this line of crap about your father. It's not my fault that your sisters and mother have clearly been had, but there you have it." Maybe it was the mother's rationalization of being raped. That seemed like the most likely explanation.
The eagle sighed and hid his head behind a wing. This was going to get ugly, and Yareha's temper was getting him into trouble again. Admittedly, Latitare had never met the child of a god before, but he seriously doubted that anyone would make that up. The stories implied that gods disliked people lying about that sort of thing.
He took no responsibility for what Tarsa did to Yareha. None at all.

Tarsa shook her head. "I won't force you to believe." What was the point? Even if she had the brute strength to take him down, that wouldn't change what he believed in. "I only hope that you are more careful out here in the future. Some rogues can be...as hot headed as ever, Yareha."
Still, she found it hard to believe that he denied the gods. Why deny what could be good, but also so ugly? She had come to accept what her father was long ago, but it didn't lessen the sharp sting of denial thrust in her face. Should she dare bring up the females again? Their forms were fuzzy, but there was no denying that there was more than one, even two. That would certainly jolt him to the truth of the matter. How would she know about his past lovers? She wouldn't say she felt threatened by him, but she was very aware of her vulnerable position. "You must have a more open mind if you are to live without the protections of a pride..." she said as she took one step back.

Yareha snorted again. As if there was any way this lioness could force him to believe anything that was patently untrue. She was deluding herself, that was what, and he couldn't believe he'd thought she was just another lion earlier. She was clearly insane! She might not sound it at first, but it had become clear to him throughout this encounter!
His blue eyes narrowed as she confirmed that she knew far too much about him...for all he knew, someone from the pride had spoken to her ahead of time and put her up to this! Trying to get him to repent or something. Well, it wasn't like he could go back now, even if he'd wanted to.
"I should ask you who put you up to this," the white lion told her, a dangerous growl in his voice. "So that I could rip them to shreds." He wasn't going to blame Tarsa for this overly elaborate prank, oh no. And how they'd gotten Latitare on their side was something of a mystery, since the bird had sworn that he had no loyalty to anyone else at this point. But at least said avian was keeping his beak shut now, perhaps hoping that Yareha wouldn't think to attack him.
"But that would be a waste of my time and yours. So why don't you just go off in one direction, and I'll go in another and we forget this ever happened, huh?"
The bird shook his head. He supposed he shouldn't be too surprised, given how thoroughly Yareha had been indoctrinated in the beliefs of his pride, and yet he was. Strange what the white lion could overthrow so easily in his own mind, and what he clung to like a drowning cat.
Hopefully this wouldn't get them into too much trouble in the future.
"Leaving seems like a good idea," Latitare put in. "It was, ah, nice to meet you Tarsa, and I'm sorry things had to end on such a negative note."

Tarsa shook her head. "Perhaps it is good you are separated from your previous life," she mumbled to herself. There was no point. She only hoped that he didn't speak crossly to a stronger lion, or insult a pack of wild dogs, or even trip over a god in disguise. That was more common than the naive adult would even dream of.
She turned without saying anything more, feeling more sorry for the eagle now than she thought possible. Her limp was subtle, unwilling to show much weakness when she tripped Yareha into an angry mode. She knew eagles were strong, but what could Latitare do if Yareha was determined to attack her? She would not rest, but instead move on as far as she could before resting for the night.
Hopefully she would find her new home soon. This life was getting to be too emotionally exhausting for her.

The white lion shook his head in disgust. And to think he'd thought her a smart rogue, capable of offering good advice! Obviously he'd been mistaken. He was tempted to call out after her and taunt her, but that would be childish and immature. He settled for completely ignoring Tarsa and turning instead to Latitare.
"Let's find something to hunt," Yareha told the bird harshly. After that encounter, he seriously needed to rend something. And a meal wouldn't be unwelcome.
Latitare shook his head inwardly and took flight. Yareha wouldn't listen until he was faced with irrefutable proof, and the eagle feared the form such proof could take. He sent another prayer winging off to the Goddess of Birds that these fears would not be realized as he circled above his irate partner and began to scan the ground for something the lion could take out his anger on.
