"Pascal's an interesting name," said Magiore. A beat, and then, "Though I suppose Magiore's not entirely common then either, so really I can't say anything."
His lips quirked upwards in a small smile, almost amused, though his brows rose as she switched the subject. Clearly this Pascal was an off-limits topic.
"I finished high school," he said. "I did two and a half years at DCU, and I suppose I should go back and finish, but taking a break right now seems the best idea. I was an engineering major, but I'm not quite certain what I want to do now."
Magiore slumped a little lower in his seat, putting his feet up on the coffee table again and slipping one to rest over the other.

"Yeesh, engineering," Zia huffed and flopped against the back of the couch and dug around in the take out box some more. "Everyone's so much more ambitious." She had been a business major and she thought that was decent enough. Drop out business major was a little less excusable.
She nodded like she'd have something to say if it wasn't for her full mouth when he called the city a noose, but then decided that it was a good thing, because the strangling sensation of Destiny City was a topic that required carefully chosen words.
"Yeah. Every other week there's a kidnapping or some other... terrorist... thing... and then something important gets shut down."

"Yes, well, that ambition lasted only so long," said Magiore dryly. "As you can tell by the fact that I'm no longer in school, and that's by choice."
He reached beside him for the package of cookies and took out one, absently nibbling on it as he pushed a bit of his hair from his face, settling down into the couch. In front of them, the TV droned on, though neither was paying attention to it anymore.
"It's...complicated lately," said Magiore, eyeing the ceiling warily. "It's problematic."

Zia cringed, wondering if she should pry. But Zia was nosy so the answer was always yes, definitely, pry, Zia, pry harder. "Did uh... did something happen with it?" Yes that was vague enough. Maybe he'd brush it off.
She watched his reaction to the terrorists comment warily, though, and wondered if she should push that too. She always wondered that, since she technically was one and most definitely didn't want Magiore to know that. "Doesn't seem any more complicated than usual. Mass kidnapping seems kind of on par with mass coma epidemic as far as public terror," She said innocently like she was baiting. And then stuffed a cookie in her mouth to shut up because without a food barrier she'd totally keep talking.

He slid her a sideways look. "Life is always complicated," said Magiore, with a touch of dryness, though he didn't really mind the comments at all. Zia was an odd roommate, that was for sure - and slightly awkward - but she was...well, Zia. He wasn't sure where she was leading with these questions, but he couldn't exactly let on what his other "job" was.
Magiore picked up a cookie and said delicately, "There are a lot of things happening lately like that, aren't there? The world is such a crazy place nowadays."
"As for school, I decided to take some time off because I couldn't quite figure out where I wanted to go in life. And, well, two years later, I still haven't quite figured that out yet. I suppose I should, though."

"Mm," Zia just made a noise and shrugged, mouth sealed shut pretty well. She did kind of glance to the side, almost disappointed. Life was complicated. What a ******** understatement.
There was an awkward, silent pause before Zia pulled her feet up on the couch and fiddled with a cookie like she was deciding how mad she really wanted it. "Might be something you should be getting around to, yeah," She said with a short laugh that petered out pretty quickly. "Then again, who ******** knows. I thought what I'm doing now was what I always wanted but it's just kind of... soul sucking. So I guess I still have no idea what I want to be when I grow up."
