"Finish with Heal Bell!" Ai commanded.
Kumiko flew backward to avoid Kishin's attack, but the Archeops's attack hit the beautiful heart carving. The heart shattered and fragments of sparkling ice shavings sprayed in all directions. Kumiko blinked in surprise; his fur was lightly coated with melting ice until he resembled a dew-laden flower in the morning sun.
He began to sing and rocked gently to and fro in the air. The stage lights caught the water droplets on his pelt and made him light up as if he were preparing another focus blast. But the song itself was soothing and heartwarming. Damage had been dealt in this contest battle; Kumiko's side still smarted and his paws were cold from using all that ice. But his song forgave everything and reminded that, win or lose, the pokemon on stage had created something beautiful together.

Kishin landed lightly on the stage and turned to watch Kumiko as he sang. She smiled and swayed with the music, enjoying it as much as the audience. The judges called time as he finished, and she would have applauded along with the spectators if she had hands.
<"That was beautiful, dear,"> she complemented the baby Mew. <"You're a very clever competitor, you sure gave me a run for my money. No matter what the score is, you should be proud of your performance."> Then she turned and trotted back to her trainer to wait for the judges' ruling.

Kumiko smiled at his motherly opponent before flying back to Ai. He zoomed toward her with his front paws extended as if he expected a hug, but Ai stood stonily still and he burrowed into his accustomed place on her shoulders and buried in her hair. Ai smiled rather fixedly; in her mind, she was running and re-running over the battle. Had they done enough? Their opponent had been very skilled. If Kumiko failed her now... She shook her head slightly, closed her eyes, and waited impatiently for the score to be called.
