He was glad she was unhurt. And good to his charming nature, he was also a bit naive. He knew she would have done the same for him! He continued to lope along, still losing distance behind her.

"C'mon, Dogsbane! Almost to the bottom!"
Her nose hurt, but it didn't slow her for long. The doe shot off once she was sure of her footing, loving the breeze running through her fur. It would be a shame when it would get too cold to enjoy something like this! She certainly did not like the cold bite of winter.

Dogs took a few deep breaths, feeling he was going to lose this race. He tried to pick up the pace, his legs starting to ache beneath him. Those races had taken a lot out of him. But there was still hope.

The doe bounded downwards, hit the bottom, and sprang back up cheerily. Her step was quick and her determination roughly about the same. She darted past Dogsbane, who was still on his way down, and gave him a cheery smile.
"About half way!"

Dogs panted, finally starting to near the bottom of the hill as she passed him.

The doe slowed as she made her ascent, her stubbed paw aching somewhat as she placed more pressure on it. She only just started! She couldn't stop, now! She spared a backwards glance towards Dogsbane, to see how well he was doing.

Dogs finally made it to the bottom, huffing and puffing, and he turned to go back up the hill.

She managed to pick up the pace a bit, leaning into the curvature of the down. The uphill run made her legs ache, but she was a stubborn doe and wasn't one to give in all that easily. She was somewhat worried for Dogsbane, however. He was starting to fall fairly behind. Maybe those races took it out of him?

She had half the mind to turn back, feeling almost bad for the buck. She didn't increase her speed by much. In fact, she might have been lagging a bit on purpose. He did seem awfully tired.
"Almost there, Dogsbane! Maybe we'll do a flat race next time, ey?"

Dogs collapsed and closed his eyes, shaking. "y-yeah. a rematch. I-I'm-a coming." He clawed the dirt.

The doe paused and glanced back a third time. She loped downwards, backtracking, until she was nearly next to Dogsbane, and gave him a broad grin. It wouldn't do to beat him quite that badly. Besides, he'd ran more races than she.
"It'll be fun! Not quite as hard as this."

Dogs glanced up at her, thankful she had come back. He took a few deep breaths and glanced over to her. "T-thanks." He said with a genuine smile. He started his race over as soon as he could. "Almost there." He pressed on, his body shaking, his steps slow. He wasn't fit to be a runner.

As he picked up the pace, so did she, briskly darting over the down. She felt as though she'd caught a second wind, but did her best not to outpace Dogsbane too terribly much. The poor buck! He seemed awful tired. She'd wait a while before challenging him to a rematch, so he would have plenty of time to recuperate.
