Some time later...
Trager had left the beach with relief and reluctance shadowing her. She tried her best to forget about what had happened since it had become quite clear to her that despite the charms of the naiad they just weren't going to work out. They were clearly not right for each other.
It was hard to forget when her tummy swelled past her thinking that all the Halloween candy had just gone to her waist. Trager had remained stubborn though, and chose to wait it out to see what would happen. This... this was what she had always wanted. Yet the only pae who could have made this happen was 20,000 leagues under the sea. Telling him about their predicament wouldn't change the fact that they were from two different worlds.
Finally the day came when Trager went into labor, she was absolutely terrified of what might come of this, and her worse fears were realized when she saw the first pinky boy with his gills. Trager waited for him to change, for the gills to go away but they never did. "Please breathe" she whispered to the baby, frightened that it needed water to survive and she was still a great distance away. Trager was forced to pass the baby off to a midwife before she could find out when she went into labor for her second son. "He's breathing, he's healthy!" They told her, and then both her boys were wrapped up in her arms, breathing like any normal pae.
The next day, when Trager was able to walk, she set out for the ocean, a son in each arm. She stopped just short of the water and sat down. "Toli!" she whispered out across the ocean, hoping his trick would work.

Toli certainly hadn't forgotten about his one sensual night with the lovely pink angel. She occupies his dreams, sometimes. He visited the surface often, hoping to catch some glimpse of her. He didn't feel in love, per se, it just didn't feel right, parting ways at high tide like they had. And he did want to see her again. And he did hope that she thought of him as well...
And so it came as a huge surprise one day, months later, when he heard his name ripple across the water. He freezes and listens. He hears it again. Great Waters, he thinks, it worked! Toli drops what he'd been working on and swims for the shore. His blonde head emerges from the water perhaps 10 minutes after she'd called him.
"Trager!" he exclaims joyfully.

Trager wasn't sure how she would feel when she saw Anatolio again. Despite the time she had to mentally prepare herself for it.... she really hadn't had that much time to prepare, her mind was entirely occupied by caring for her newborns. Trager was surprised by her own reaction of happiness and longing to see his face again. She took a deep breath though, scared, the gift she brought with her was kind of a big deal and she was now unsure how he would react. "Toli! Come here!" she shouted, he'd see them as soon as he got closer to the shore. Trager wondered if he would dive back into the ocean and swim away or come closer when he did. Her shout stirred one of the babes in her arms and it started to squirm and make noises, the other was soon to follow.

Toli swims toward shore, dragging himself along the sandy bottom once it got too shallow for him to swim anymore. As the water recedes away from him, his tail transforms into legs and he stands up, albeit a little wobbily. "It's good to see you again," he says breathlessly.
"What've you got?" he asks, peering at the little bundles. "Are those....? Oh....oh my...." Toli feels a little faint. "H-how...?" He runs a hand through his hair and scratches the back of his neck. "I....er....I don't know what to say...." He feels terrible. Does she hate him now? He can't believe this is happening...

Trager looked at Toli uncertainly, unsure of what to tell him. In her plan, the babies spoke for themselves, she didn't have to say anything. Of course the babies didn't speak for themselves and she was left as speechless as him. "Yesterday..." was all she could manage to say. Although she had known for longer, perhaps she should have told him before they had arrived. She sat awkwardly in the sand clutching the two bundles. She decided to stop glaring Toli down waiting for him to react and moved her gaze down to the the boys. "Boys" she told him, maybe that would satisfy him. At last, Trager looked up and handed one over to him.

Toli uncertainly takes the bundle of infant, peering up at him with huge brown eyes. After a moment of shifting the baby awkwardly in his arms, he eventually settles into a comfortable position with him. He looks back at Trager. "I....Great Waters, I am so sorry I put you through all this..." he says.
Suddenly he winces a little as the baby had grabbed onto his ear-fin. "Owowow," he says, gently taking the little one's hand and removing it. He gives the baby a look, then chuckles. "Er, quite a grip they've got, eh?" He tucks the little one's arm back into the blanket and swaddles him close. "Cheeky little tadpole."

Trager shrugged her shoulders, "It wasn't what I expected..." she meant a lot of things by that. There was an uncertainty if a relationship with the father of her babies was even possible. Trager hadn't even been sure what to expect from an angel and a naiad having babies, she still wasn't sure what to expect, were they of the land or of the sea? They had legs, though she hadn't put them in the water yet to see if that would change, but they had gills too. Would they dry out like their father?
Trager watched Toli interact with the baby while she stroked the cheek of the one still left in her arms. When Toli called the baby a tadpole she tilted her head and then looked down at her bundle and worked him out of his blanket. Tiny little legs kicked free. "I'm not sure what they are" Trager said honestly.

"Huh," says Toli, then works his infant free of the blanket as well. He watches the chubby land-dweller legs kick around and blinks a few times. He'd rather been expecting a tail, but...oh! They're on land! "I wonder..." He kneels down by the water and gently sets the little boy in the shallow waves lapping the shore, expecting the little legs to fuse together into a fat tail. Nothing.
"Hm," says Toli with a little frown. "That's...not what I expected." His voice contains obvious disappointment. They're his sons, he's certain, but why didn't they look more like him? Their gills were obvious, but they had wings and legs like their mother. He sighs a little, but then the little one splashes him with water and he can't help but giggle. At least this one was comfortable in the sea.
"Do they have names yet?" he asks, looking back up at Trager.

Trager bit her lip hesitantly when Toli brought the boy closer to the water. She had to turn away when he was placed in the water, but she just had to look back out of curiosity. It was as she expected because of their gills, no change. Trager felt bad, knowing how disappointed Anatolio was, but she was relieved that they wouldn't leave her for the sea, or so she hoped. The baby in her arms squirmed more, wondering where its sibling was.Trager reluctantly scooted towards the water and dipped his feet in the water. He took to it the same way as his brother, splashing around with a natural love. Trager looked over to Toli at her side, "I hadn't really thought about it yet" she admitted. "I didn't really know what to do, they're yours too..."

"Well," responds Toli, "We should give them names." He nods resolutely and stares at the little one with dark freckles near his eyes. He looked very much the little angel, just like his mother. "What about....Anxo?" To him it sounded aquatic enough.
He smiles proudly as he watches the little one burble happily in the water. At least they didn't share their mother's pathos...

Trager nodded her head in agreement and smiled. She was happy that Toli wanted to participate in the naming of their sons. Trager could see the disappointment that they had no tails vanish, and she felt relieved, and hopeful that things might work out."That sounds like a good, strong name." she looked at the other son, with his curl of blonde hair like his father. Trager stroked his cheek lovingly. "Dysmas?" she questioned the boy and his father, looking over at Toli next.
Looking at the backs of her little boys, Trager noticed something. When they were born she thought their wings had been wet from being born, but they were still wet, even now, and only their feet had been in the water. "Their wings..." Trager said curiously.

"Dysmas..." says Toli, feeling how the name fell from his tongue. He likes it. Again, it felt like a solid, upright name with a bit of an oceanic ring to it. "I think that'll do fine," he agrees, nodding. "Anxo and Dysmas." A little giggle bubbles from his lips. "I can't believe I'm a father..."
When Trager calls attention to their little wings, he leans forward and curiously feels Anxo's. They're definitely feathery, he notices, but wet. Wet like a wet that would never dry. He can't help but grin. "Looks like they have the sea in them after all!" he exclaims.

Trager might have face-palmed at his exclamation, but she restrained herself. It seemed that, just as the sea was in her sons, it was inevitably now part of her life as well. Her brown eyes studied Toli for awhile as she thought of where that would leave them. They shared two children together now. She was still all grins though, now that the burden of Toli not knowing was lifted from her shoulders, now that he seemed satisfied by it, she could relax and be happy with what had happened. Trager finally giggled, "I guess you'll have to teach all 3 of us to swim."

Toli laughs a little. "I'm sure they'll have no problem with it," he says, gesturing to the little ones, splashing happily. "Besides," he says with a good-natured shrug and a boyish grin at Trager. "You seemed to enjoy it well enough that one time." He raises his eyebrows. "I'm sure I could get you to enjoy it again."
He wonders what had happened to her that had given her such an....aversion to the sea. Who wouldn't love the sea? It's so wide, so calm and serene. Unless there was a hurricane, of course...
