Maraba didn't give chase when Poa got some distance between them, though he did follow somewhat more slowly, just to keep himself ready. Still, he hadn't imagined the other lion would resort to such creative tactics! Why he could deduce the dust might be used to mask an attack, it still hindered timing a great amount.
As such, Poa's attack had been pretty successful! Maraba grunted as the other lion slammed into his shoulder, though fortunately it wasn't as bad as last time and he managed to stay on his feet. He twisted and tried to bat at the other male with a paw, at the same time as he attempted to get a few feet back, away from the dust. He wasn't going to be letting Poa play in the sand again!

He could hardly believe it when his plan worked, and though it wasn't perfect it was certainly an improvement on some of his earlier efforts. With a small grunt he allowed the momentum to carry him a few paces away - though not quick enough.
A paw caught him in the hind leg, almost tripping him, and he span as quickly as his legs could manage, fearing that the lion might already be mid-pounce. Thankfully, however, this was not the case. But there was no time to get overconfident. He still had a lot of ground to make up and he wasn't sure how much longer this could go on.
A few more strong attacks from his opponent would see him down and out. That was all there was to it.
With grim determination, he closed the gap between them again and aimed a paw low - as if to take Maraba's legs out from under him.

This fight felt a lot closer than his previous one, and that was unexpectedly thrilling!
When Poa came to him again he imagined his opponent would try to hit him in the head, and as such already had a paw raised to block or counterattack. Unfortunately fro Maraba, this meant that when Poa went for one of his paws, namely, the only front paw still on the floor, there wasn't much her oculd do about it.
He felt his paw give way and immediately dropped in height, managing to save himself just before actually stumbling all the way down. To buy himself time to get back together again, Maraba reached forwards to imitate the other male and go for the paws before standing back up fully.

He tried to jump the paw that was swung at his legs but was caught about the ankle, sending him staggering sideways. This Maraba was a tricky fellow! Poa thought that he might make a good guard for whichever clan he was a part of. This fight was certainly close and he hoped he was doing Kalanu and his family proud.
Regaining his balance he threw out another hasty paw, more in an attempt to keep his adversary at bay.

The paw hit him right in the nose. Which was rather unpleasant for Maraba, but probably all the more better for Poa! While it certainly wasn't the worst thing that could have happened, noses were just sort of sensitive like that, and he sniffed as he backed away a bit.
He didn't attempt an attack now, and briefly raised a paw to swipe at his face. Maraba would bide for time a bit, thank you!

wooga Paes We are getting so many low rolls!!! Crazy!
Not a lot, apparently.
Poa, hesitant, took a step to the left and then changed his mind and circled aroun to the right, watching for any surprise tactics.

Now that he felt his nose wasn't stinging much anymore and could breathe without that little irritation, Maraba went in once again, ready to continue the fight. This little waiting interlude, though not long, seemed to have slowed the fight down, at least a little bit. So this attack was actually rather straightforward, he tried to get up close so he could deliver a blow or two with his paws.
Kimaria I know! they're shuffling around like kids now. xD

wooga Paes lol they must try harder!
And, in retaliation, he tipped forwards, attempting to slam the top of his head against his opponent and knock him away - the only real move available to him now that they were in close proximity.

While pleased with his success in getting things moving, Maraba was less enthused about the headbutt he received in return. As he had been reared slightly when Poa knocked into his chest, it was to be expected that he'd lose his balance.
While he probably could have kept himself form hitting the floor, thinking quickly it occurred to Maraba to dry and grab Poa. If he was going down, it wouldn't be alone! He hoped to be able to sort of flip things around a bit, so if he did manage to bring Poa down he'd hit the floor rather roughly... so would Maraba, but those were consequences he'd deal with when they came! Kimaria I think they felt self conscious and decided to move things along xD

wooga Paes I think they did! I was starting to get worried there!
One moment he was on his paws and the next he was on the ground, dazed and shocked over what has just happened. His paws flailed for a moment as if wondering why no ground was beneath them and his eyes rolled in an attempt to see where Maraba Edi had gone. All he could really surmise was that his attack had seriously backfired on him! Maybe he wouldn't try that again...
With a low groan he pushed himself back up onto his paws and, without too much thought, launched himself again, attempting to pin his foe before he had a chance to recover.

Landing wasn't exactly smooth for Maraba, either, but at least he had the advantage of not being surprised when he hit the floor. He had just been getting back onto his paws when Poa came flying at him, and perhaps later he'd be impressed by his opponent's speed.
Right now, it just sort of hurt. Maraba flailed as he failed to get back on his feet, and hit the floor once more, landing on his side. Anxious not to get pinned, he twisted and thrashed, then kicked out his paws in Poa's general direction. If he landed a hit, he might be able to get Poa to back off enough to get back on his feet.

Pinning his opponent was clearly not an option. The ex-rogue was strong and battling to get back to his paws. And one of those paws had smacked him a hefty blow across the face. Poa already knew that if he attempted to pin him it would not be without consequence. And yet surely now was time to press the attack? If not now there wouldn't be another opportunity.
Setting his paws firmly against the ground so as to keep his blance if his plan went wrong he lashed out first with his right paw and then with his left, hoping to keep the lion on the defence.

It was a relief to Maraba to find an opening to get onto his belly, at least, thanks to the efforts of flailing around on the floor. At least that had paid off! But it wasn't done, as Poa so kindly reminded him when paws came crashing down onto his neck and shoulders. He grunted, and thought this was a very bad position indeed. Which meant he really, really, really needed to get out of here.
Gathering his paws beneath him, he cut out the middle man; instead of standing up first he just launched himself at Poa, and hoped for the best.

Poa's boldness would prove to be his downfall. If he had retreated he might not have been in the 'launch path' when Maraba made his powerful and well-timed attack. This time when he hit the floor he wasn't sure whether he'd be getting up again. Little voices warned him to move in his head but at that moment all he wanted to do was just lie down and rest. Except guards couldn't do that! He wasn't going to go down without at least one more attempt.
He rolled back onto his paws and rose with some care - clearly on his last legs.
And yet, tired as he was, there was strength in him still. The sticky lion braced himself against the ground and pushed off from his hind legs, their uncoiling like springs. His forepaws outstretched, his head lifting in a sign that he intended to tackle his opponent again.

His strength was waning, and so Maraba was rather surprised that he'd managed to recover like that, knocking Poa down and getting back up on his feet. He didn't go after Poa then, perhaps tired himself, or in the hopes that maybe the fight had ended.
Of course, he was wrong. Poa wasn't a quitter, as Maraba could easily see, and feel when the other lion crashed into him, catching his shoulder. He gasped and staggered backwards a few steps. He was beginning to stumble himself, when he twisted and made a last push against Poa, hoping that this time he might knock the other male down... and sort of flop on him and hold him there for a bit. Maybe. Or Poa would recover, and then take the fight; Maraba couldn't keep this up any longer, this was his last shot.Kimaria oh my goodness, is this an awesome duel ;;
