His punch hit her left arm, and hit it hard. If it was her right arm she wouldn't have been able to hit him back at all. She gritted her teeth and kicked out at him, aiming for the back of his legs so he would fall.

Alek was at the door the same time Veshki and Zhezald had reached the door. The first thing that Veshki did was pick up Zuri. The second was look at Alek and sternly ask him who started it. He knew his daughter, and although she wasn't a fighter he wouldn't put it past her to start a fight and he knew that Alek wouldn't lie.

Alek gulped and looked from his sister to Ruelash. He didn't want to say anything, but he had to answer his father. He told her that the whole thing was started because he laughed at Zuri's funny face, looking at the floor the whole time he spoke.

Zhezald shook his head. So Zuri had started it. He apologized to Veshki and looked at Zuri sternly, telling her to apologies. However she was still mad so she stood their silently, glaring at Ruelash.

Ruelash fell, lashing out with his own leg as he hit the ground... but he wasn't a very canny fighter- he was more of a talented brute than anything.
He had just scrambled up and brought himself back for a lunge when...

Veshki thanked Bergchi and any other spirit that may have been involved that Ruelash had somehow not started this fight.
"Lash..."

"Was jus' mindin' my own business..." grumbled the boy, his eyes still sulfurous and firey. "She started it!" he said, pointing accusingly.

"I believe you, Ruelash, but you can't keep doing this."

"'s not my fault!" snarled Ruelash, "a' you takin' her side?"

"No, Ruelash, no I'm not." sighed Veshki, "Fighting like that is wrong..."

"But she started it!" Ruelash howled. He wanted to keep fighting and beat her up!

"Ruelash..." Veshi shot a desperate glance at Zezhald as his brother tried to wriggle out of his grasp.

Although she would never say it, Zuri was very thankful that Veshki and her father had stepped in when they did. Although she was holding her own for the moment, she was pretty sure that any longer and she would've been on the floor crying.

-------

Zuri shook her head. "I had to much spunk in my back then. There was no way I would have won that fight." she told Biroki before continuing with her story.

-------

Zuri just stood there, not looking Zezhald in the eye as he scolded her. She knew it was the right thing to say sorry but she couldn't bring herself to do it. Part of her was mad at Alek for telling, but she knew he was just doing the right thing.

"Really it's not my fault. He attacked Alek when Alek laughed at something I did, it had nothing to do with him, I just was defending my brother." She said with a shrug. Maybe she could lay the blame on him, though her father did not look like he was in the mood for her word games. "If anything he should be happy I stepped in, Alek was so scared his hands caught on fire and if I hadn't jumped in the way then this boy would have been burned. So if anything I saved him." she tried to rationalize.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 09, 2013 4:23 pm

"I can imagine!" Biroki smiled nervously but warmly at her, "Y-you're... pretty spunky now" he laughed, a short nervous laugh.
"S-sorry... Go on..." he said, fidgeting, "I... I didn't mean to... Interrupt..."

``````
"Don' try ta talk yer way out of this fight, ya sissy!" Snarled Ruelash, struggling against Veshki's restraint, "I kin take care 'a myself! 'a don' need anybody ta' protect me! I'll kick yer a** an' then we'll see who needs protectin'!" He struggled more, "This ain't over, sissy-Zuri!" he shouted as Veshki dragged him away.
"Thats enough, Ruelash..." Veshki dragged the struggling, fuming boy to the other side of the room, giving Zuri a look of... was it dissappointment? Fear? His eyes passed over Alek and fixed on Zhezhald. He was the man of the house, his judgement would count.
"Perhaps... We should take our dinner separately..." said Veshki, panting with the exertion of holding back his brother.
"Don' care about dinner!" snarled Ruelash, "Don' just sit there like a sissy coward!"
Veshki tried to clap his hand over his brother's mouth, failing.
"I'm very sorry about this..."
Zuri pushed him lightly with a laugh. "Although I haven't lost all my spunk it's nothing how it was before! And don't worry about interrupting. I don't mind." she said with a smile.
-------
Zuri ignored Ruelash's comments, rolling his eyes when he called her sissy. She was still trying not to look at her father or Veshki. However she caught his look and dread seemed to spread threw her. Oh she didn't mean to make Veshki disappointed in her. She just was defending her brother, and although she knew that it was wrong to start a fight she couldn't help herself and at the time it sounded like a good idea.
Zhezhald shook his head and told Veshki that it was him that was sorry, he had more faith that his daughter would have behaved herself. Another blow to Zuri's emotions. He told Veshki it was his choice where he wanted to take dinner, but the house was still open to him and he was more welcome to have dinner with everyone, he assured the other man that Zuri would behave herself.
"I'm sorry..." she said quietly, though it was more to Veshki and her father then to Ruelash. She was sorry for disappointing the two of them.
"mmmmph!!!" snarled Ruelash, glaring as Veshki held him back.
"So am I..." muttered Veshki, mostly to himself.
"I wish I could be as certain about my brother" he said, honestly, "'Lash, calm down!" he hissed.
Ruelash grumbled something that could have been 'fine', wrenched his way out of his brother's grip with a fierce and brief struggle. He gave Zuri (and Alek) a sharp look- This wasn't over, not by a long shot- before storming out to his sleeping things.
Veshki sighed. Wonderful. That was what he would have to deal with all day tomorrow (hopefully) when he could continue on his route. A pissy, bitchy, bratty, grumpy younger brother.
But he could deal with Ruelash later. It might be a good idea to let the boy grumble alone for a little bit.
Well how rude of him! At least he should have accepted her apology, but then again she should have known better then to expect this boy to do the right thing. It was strange that he and Veshki were related at all. Maybe he was adopted? Yes that had to be it, though she could see the small similarities between the two of them.
When Ruelash walked off she watched him go, giving him a watchful look as he stormed off. What was wrong with him? He had to be the rudest boy she had ever met in her life! She almost had to feel bad for him. Something had to be wrong with his head if he was acting like this.
"Should I go after him? I promise I won't fight him. Just to say sorry again." she asked her father and Veshki. Her father agreed though looked towards Veshki to see if it was a good idea. It was his brother, he knew better ten anyone if that was a smart idea or not.
PostPosted: Mon Jan 21, 2013 5:22 pm
Veshki shook his head.
"Thats... not a good idea, Zuri..." he sighed. "It's best to let him stew."
~~~

The blizzard wind died down a little, snarling around the makeshift hide door like a starving dog.
Ruelash built up the fire again, setting up some quick soup to cook.
Only Veshki could get him to heel like that. He sort of missed it. These other people, they thought they could control him... how wrong they were!
He could only be leashed. Barely. He was like the blizzard- the hide door and the fire kept it at bay. For now.
But if he waited long enough it would tear through the covering like some monster out of nightmare.
That was him. Or that was how he liked to think of himself.

He stirred the soup as it began to cook, filling his rough shelter with a delicious scent.
That had been an interesting fight, he remembered. That girl fought like a wild animal.

~~~
Veshki ate with the others, excusing himself at one point to bring his brother dinner. He didn't believe in denying children food unless it was necessary. Food made one strong, and this was Zena. Ruelash, for all his faults, needed to grow up big and strong. A healthy body made for a healthy mind.
Ruelash grumbled in the sleeping space they had been given. At first he snarled about in the corner.
Then he paced.
Then he grumbled in the corner some more.
He cooled down eventually, about when Veshki brought him some food.
He got out a piece of crappy hide he had in his pack and began writing on it with some ink and a quill he found nearby.
Veshki returned to dinner and sat with them again.
"Sorry about that. I didn't want him to go hungry, otherwise I'd be hearing about it all tomorrow." he smiled, but he knew his brother. He would have to keep a close eye on him until they left.
Zuri nodded looking down again. She just wanted to make things better, but if Veshki said that she should let Rue be then she would let the boy be.
-------
"Honestly after the whole thing I just started feeling horrible. It was the first time I had ever let my father down really, and to be honest I made sure that it was also the last time. Plus I had never started a fight before and I didn't want to become that kind of girl." she told Biroki with a shrug. It was kind of funny how there were so many things that she couldn't remember from her childhood, so many memories she wished she could recall, and yet this one which seemed so unimportant stood out among the rest. She felt like this memory was one freshly made, even if it was years ago.
-------
Zhezhald understood that Veshki had to go bring his brother food, he reminded that it was not Ruelash who had been the starter of the fight and even if he didn't want to eat with them he still should eat. Although part of Zuri thought the boy should starve, if only for the night to make him learn his lesson, she understood that he would die without food and she did not wish death upon anyone. "Where shall you go tomorrow?" she asked Veshki hoping to start up conversation.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 25, 2013 7:59 am
"Oh! Well, I'm going a little out of my usual territory. We're doing some courier work." Veshki said, taking a drink, "We'll be heading over the flats tomorrow. We'll wait at the big pass to the East to make sure that its clear. Then..." He finished more of the food he had been so kindly given. "We'll head to the next settlement. Then we'll head back home, crossing over some of the large hills and forests. We'll check the area as we go and bring back any messages and information we pick up along the way."
He smiled a sort of wan, maybe shy smile.
"If we're out for long... maybe I'll be meeting my first child..."
~~~

Ruelash stirred his soup quietly.
He remembered not thinking at all about his upcoming niece or nephew (it had turned out to be a niece. And she wasn't too bad).
Frankly, he hadn't wanted to play attention to Veshki's wife at all.
He was more focused on fighting...

~~~
Ruelash folded his note and sealed it up before slipping out of the room. Where did Zuri sleep?
This wasn't over. this wasn't ******** over.
It took him a little bit to figure it out, but he stuck the note where he thought her bedroll was.
'This isn't over' said his crappy handwriting,
'Meet me just outside. We'll finish this fight.'
~~~

"But... Was it over...?"

Zuri smiled, listening politely. When he spoke about meeting his first child her smile wavered slightly but hopefully it wasn't noticeable. So he had a family, well there went her hopes. Not that she really had any thoughts of a future with him, he was much too old for her, but her little fantasy was nice while it lasted. "How many messages do you normally get from each settlement?" she asked curiously.

They all talked threw out diner, mostly Zhezhald holding conversation while occasionally the kids would jump in. Zuri wondered what had happened to Ruelash. She didn't think it would take him that long to calm down. It was kind of rude of him if she was being honest.

-------

Zuri shook her head. "Although as I ate I thought it was over, Ruelash had other plans. Not it was not over."

-------

When she finished her meal she excused herself from the table and went towards her room. She noticed a note and was confused till she read it. Rolling her eyes she couldn't believe that he was still insisting on fighting her. She snuck outside and looked around for him. "You need to work on your hand writing." she said as she searched for him.
PostPosted: Tue Feb 05, 2013 5:31 am

"Oh! That depends on the settlement!" said Veshki, smiling at Zuri, "At the last settlement, we picked up a few things. We'll likely pick up a few things here as well... Oh! Speaking of which..."
Veshki excused himself again to return to his pack.
He didn't see Ruelash.
He hoped that meant that the boy was using the bathroom or something.
He really did.
He brought the package back to the group.
"This is for you, I think!" he handed it to Zhezhald.
---
After dinner, he still couldn't find Ruelash. Maybe the boy had literally gotten pissed?
He decided to not be worried for a little bit longer.

Ruelash liked the cold.
The cold was fine.
So even though the blizzard still screamed outside and nipped at him through his coat like a thousand hungry serpents, he stood there waiting for her.
He'd thought for a moment that she would chicken out and he'd be waiting out there forever, or at least until Veshki dragged him inside.

He grinned, something as wild as the storm whipping the snow into drifts.
It was hard to see, so he had been waiting right outside the door.
His handwriting? Whatever!
"Pff. ya got th' message, didn't ya?"
Who cared about handwriting.
He raised his arms into a fighting stance. Though covered up with furs and clothes, he knew he could still move. Besides, fighting in the snow was fun!
"Lets finish this."

Wait. Did her hitting him still count?
He wasn't sure. He hesitated before punching, uncertain. <******** it.
He lunged, but his hesitation had given her something of an opening...

Zuri listened and when Veshki excused himself and came back with a package for her father she smiled. With luck he would get more and Veshki would come back to deliver them! Although she didn't want him to bring his brother he was good company and nice to look at, even it he already had a wife and a child. Zhezhald thanked him for the package, it was some supplies that he had run out of. He had things for Veshki as well, mostly letters for other council members, but he would give them to Veshki before he left the next day.

-------

When Ruelash said that she got the message she rolled her eyes. Yes she got the message, but he should still work on his penmanship. She was already over the whole fighting thing and had no interest in fighting him and making both her father or Veshki more disappointed in her. He might not care what the two of them thought, but she did.

"I don't want to..." She was about to say fight when he lunged towards her, though in the split second of his uncertainty she moved away from him. "This whole thing is stupid. Why do you insist on fighting me? I'm a girl and younger then you. Even if you win that isn't something to be proud of, if anything you should be ashamed." she yelled at him.
PostPosted: Sun Feb 10, 2013 10:57 am

He missed as she moved away. Damn!
"Only a coward'd pick on someone weaker n' him!" entirely true, entirely hypocritical.
"Ya callin me a coward?"
Insult? He could claim it was, to himself, and that was what mattered. Validated enough, he threw a punch at her.
"C'mon! Ya too chicken ta fight?!" He threw another, lunging forward aggresively, "Ya wanna be a big strong warrior, eh? Wanna ride a big tough thing?"
He threw an uppercut and crouched, a rare moment of defence.
"REAL warriors finish wha' they start!" he snarled, his breath turning to steam in the cold, harsh wind.
His heart was racing. His muscles were warm. A wonderful feeling of endorphins and adrenaline raced through his body.
His soul beat with a wild, savage thrum.
He loved fighting!
"Come on! Come on!" he lunged forward again as the storm roared around him.

Zuri shook her head. "I didn't call you a coward, you called yourself a coward. It is obvious that I'm weaker then you." she laughed. "I don't have to even insult you, you do it to yourself." she said with a laugh. Her laugh was cut short when he threw a punch at her which she barely dodged, and then another. Oh this was so annoying and unnecessary. "Plus, I want to be a rider not a warrior." He hit her with his uppercut, something she wasn't expecting. She threw her own punch, but missed due to him crouching.

"STOP! If your brother comes out he is going to be really mad!" she yelled at him. His punch had hit her in the eyebrow, and part of her thought she could feel blood falling down her face. Her eyes narrowed as she rushed towards him, moving to the side just enough that he missed her when he came towards her. She turned around as fast as she could and kicked out, hoping to hit his back.
