The doctor's office door was still open, the man himself busy within.

"Yeah.." Otto took a few more steps backward. "Uh.." He then helped close the door, because anyone passing by really didn't need to see this.

The teen walked briskly with Sherry back to H's office. The images he'd seen still fresh in his mind, the smell still lingering in his nostrils. He tried his best not to let himself be sick.

Otto walked back inside the office, thankfully not blood stained and decayed. "Uh.. we got a problem." He turned to Sherry with an expectant look. "A big... bloody problem."

Even with the doors shut Sherry couldn't shake the sight from her mind. Between that and the smell, Sherry felt ill. She had a feeling she'd feel ill for the next day or ten.

How long had those bodies been in there? Why had no one bothered entering that room? The questions swirled as they walked back to the office, even though Sherry didn't know if she wanted to know the answers.

"Right," she nodded in agreement with Otto. "We...we found the room. But it was..." she glanced at Otto. "It was full of bodies. Dead, rotting bodies." Sherry's stomach did a small flip as the images flashed through her mind again.

Like someone turning a light on, she suddenly remembered the envelope that was still in her hand. The whole reason for going to the bloody room. She held the envelope out the doctor. "There, um, wasn't anyone there to read your message."

Fingers steepled, the doctor sat back in his chair with a pleasant smile. "Oh, not to worry, my dear, I'm quite sure the message was delivered as intended." He didn't reach for the envelope, but instead gave them a slow, assessing look before continuing, "But dead bodies, you say? Oh my, that's so very alarming." The doctor didn't even bother pretending to be anything other than amused.

"Well, I suppose there needs to be an investigation of sorts, hm? And clean-up, of course, can't leave bodies around, rotting as they please. It would be unsanitary." The smile widened into a grin, "I'll give you two a week."

the ooc

There are two tasks, you can split them or share them! At the end of the IC/OOC week, have them fill out an post their reports in order to level-up!

Investigation!
In this thread or other rp threads, your hunter needs to talk to other characters to find out information on the council's slaughter. They can be both PCs and NPCs.
- at some point during the investigation, roll 1d10 to determine how suspicious a character seems. This can be due to their behaviour, appearance, words, smelliness, or outside factors (like dramatic lighting, inexplicable serial killer soundtracks playing in the background, random npcs muttering suspicious accusations.) Or anything else you care to make up.

-- 1: seems totally innocent
-- 5: seems to be hiding something
-- 10: probably murdered them all

Once your investigation reaches a rolled tally of 30, your hunter can write up their report and be done with it (though feel free to continue on for the hell of it.)

Clean up!

There's a lot of bodies, some in various pieces, and all of them pretty nasty. The council has left a stain on the reputation of Deus Ex Machina and it's your job to make sure it doesn't set in. The Moon budget cannot handle replacing all that ******** carpet. Again.

As you clean (you can do so in here or in another thread) roll 1d8 per post to determine success.

1: the body you're trying to move falls apart in your hands, making a greater mess than before (-2 points)
2: fluid begins leaking out of the body, be sure to place up a "wet floor" sign in order to avoid lawsuits (-1 point)
3: dead weight proves to be heavier than suspected. and you drop your burden (0 points)
4: you manage to get the body into a bag with only a few bits and pieces dropping off ("1 point)
5: the body you're carrying releases a noxious gas, but you're too pro to let that stop you (+2 points)
6: you don't notice a "wet floor" sign and slip in a pool of fluids, luckily, instead of falling, you manage to do some slick gymnastics and the body ends up flying gracefully through the air and landing perfectly in it's bag (+3 points)
7: As you lift the body from the floor, a large number of rats pour out from its gaping ribcage, afterward, the body is incredibly light and easy to maneuver. (+4 points)
8: The body lets out a groan and begins to move. Don't worry, it's not a zombie. Somebody must not have noticed a wet floor sign and slipped in fluid. They eventually get up and leave to visit the infirmary/shower/file a lawsuit/never sleep again. Get back to work (0 points)

Once your rolled point tally reaches 13, your hunter has finished the task and can write out their report to be done with this and take a shower already.

H was shifty as ever. If Otto hadn't already suspected Caelius he'd have blamed H. Or maybe all the Division leads had a hand in it. Regardless, Otto pressed on to conduct the investigation.

And oh did he learn a thing or two about how to conduct one. Next time, he'd be a little more selective about it.

She didn’t know why she agreed to take on the clean-up.

Wait, no. That was a lie. She did know. Information gathering wasn’t really part of her main skill set, and she would have felt bad forcing this unpleasant task on anyone else. Unless they deserved it, of course. But she was pretty sure Otto didn’t deserve it. Her first thought when they were told they had to clean up that putrid mess had been, Don’t they have crews for that? She didn’t have to ask, though. She knew the answer. That’s what trainees were for, clearly.

Sherry glanced down at the armful of supplies she’d rounded up. A few things that might help make the task easier, though she doubted they would actually be of any help. Things like gloves, booties, and body bags. “I can’t believe this is happening,” she was already doing her best to keep the bile down.

And then she was there, standing in front of those doors again. At least this time she knew what she’d find. Sherry sighed and dropped her supplies in heap on the floor, then removed her coat and set about putting on the protective gear she’d scrounged up. She had no fantasy about gloves or anything offering her real comfort or safety. In her experience, body goop was just plain gross and it got everywhere.

Ready as she’d ever be, the Life Trainee decided it was time to open those doors and get on with it. The smell was somehow even worse than before. “Dear God, why?” At least she didn’t throw up. Instead, she just stood and stared for several moments, hoping that if she did so long enough it wouldn’t freak her out as much. Perhaps her mind would start playing tricks on her, and she could imagine she were simply cleaning up her room. “Well, this is stupid.” Nothing was going to happen is she just stood there. Least of all the bodies magically cleaning themselves up. (She didn’t think she wanted that anyway.) “Just have to do it and get it over with.”

Hunters had to do terrible things all the damn time, didn’t they? She had to do this. Armagnac would tell her as much. Heck, she was telling herself she had to do it if for nothing else than to prove she could. If she could handle this, then she could handle anything. She might be weak, and she might be a failure, but she couldn’t stay that way. And a few dead bodies were not about to keep her that way. She was nodding to herself as she stepped into the room.

Just gonna do this here >_>

The stench was overwhelming, and things were squishy. ********. No, I've done this before, I can do it again." Except that time in the Sahara she'd had that mask. Sherry could hardly stand to look at the things.

The things. They'd been people once. People with hopes and lives and-- "No. Don't think about it. Just do it. Do it and get it done." She was talking to herself. Standing in a room full of dead bodies and talking to herself. Great. Never once, not once, had she imagined her life turning out like this.

"And yet here I am. Still stalling." She sighed. Armagnac would be yelling at her right now. Ok. Fine. She just had to do it. The sooner she got it done, the better it would be. She could do this, she could do this, she could do this.

Quickly, very quickly, her hands reached down and grabbed at the nearest body. So squishy. Oh, lord, she was going to throw up, she couldn't--

"What the hell?!" Sherry let go of the body and jumped back as rats, RATS, came running out of it's torso. "You have got to be kidding me. Just plain kidding. s**t." Sherry turned in a little circle of disgust. It wasn't the rats themselves that got to her...it was more the fact that she knew what they had been doing in there. The idea made her shudder.

"Ok. Ok. I can still do this," she was having to talk herself into it again. She wanted to close her eyes and she reached down to grab the body again, but she knew better. Better to watch and make sure she didn't grab anything too nasty.

The body, for it's part, moved rather easily. Getting into the body bag was quick, and less painful than Sherry had anticipated. As long as she didn't bother to think of it as a person, anyway.

"You little vermin want to go ahead and eat the rest of the bodies?" The idea still made her sick, but she had a feeling it could only make things easier.

One body down, several more to go. She just had to stop thinking of them as bodies. It was just a mess that needed cleaning. Nothing more. Just a stinky, squishy, rat infested mess. "Ok. I got this. I can do this." Sherry was giving herself a near constant pep talk. ********. She hated bodies.

That didn't matter, though. This was a challenge, just another hurdle she had to pass. Just one more.

Just like the body at her feet currently. She poked at it warily. No rats. Sherry decided that was something of a curse, as she found this body much heavier than the last. "It's just a thing, not a person." Not anymore.

There was hiss. Sherry nearly dropped the body. The smell that followed the noise didn't help. Sherry gagged and coughed. Oh, lord. The body was full of something putrid, and foul and possibly dangerous gas. s**t. She didn't stop, though. Somehow she got that awful carcass safely into it's body bag.

It didn't help the smell in the room. Not that anything would.

She was starting to find her rhythm now. They were bodies, they were once people, they were gross and she would probably have nightmares. But it was getting easier, somehow. Probably because she was doing a decent job of numbing herself to the whole experience. It had just taken a little while for her to reach the point of numbness.

She was dragging her next target across the floor. This lump of stuff was heavy. And shedding. Dammit. She'd have to go back for those pieces. Oh, holy hell, was that a hand?

Don't think about it, don't think about it. It's just a mess, and she was just cleaning it up.

Another bag filled, several more to go. She could do this. It wasn't that bad. She was almost used to the smell, even. Not that bad at all. Just don't look at were the faces go.

Another thing to move. A heavy one this time. Too heavy. Sherry hadn't gone more than two steps before her arms gave out.

Oh, God. She just dropped some poor dead person onto the floor. She almost apologized. "I'm so--" No. No, it's not a person. It doesn't care.

It was just a squishy, dead body. And it really needed to get into it's bag already.

It was just a body, and it didn't care that she resorted to dragging it across the floor. "s**t," she muttered, watching as pieces fell off it.

Just how long had these damn things been left in here? They should not be this rotten. They really should have been found before this. In fact...Sherry remembered the way the Doctor had smiled at them. That amusement in his face had made her wonder then. This confirmed it. "He knew."

She had always been quick on the uptake.

The next body proved to be too heavy for the life trainee. It was the second she'd sent tumbling to the floor. Her face scrunched and her stomach flipped as she watched fluids begin to seep out of it, all over her foot.

Seriously. How long had these things been in here? And who decided it was a good idea to let her clean them up? She was clearly to small for this. Damn formerly living rag-dolls. She almost kicked the one lying at her feet.

This was disgusting. If she weren't already knee deep in dead, she might have decided to quit right then. But quitting would have been pointless, she was already here, and damn it. She didn't like giving up.

The body at her feet was still leaking. The fluid was hideous, and Sherry couldn't have named the colors if she wanted to. The smell coming out with it didn't help.

s**t. I'm gonna have to clean that up, too. If she didn't slip in it first. Ugh. It was just oozing everywhere.

She almost didn't notice the fact that she was finally starting to see it as a mess, and not bodies. It probably helped that they weren't' exactly warm.

Alright. She just had to get the thing into a bag, then it could leak all it freaking wanted to.

She didn't want to think about the fact that it was somewhat lighter now. That would mean a whole ton of gunk was on the floor. Just what she didn't need. Oh, and that smell. Just what was that?

The body in her arms was just putrid. Between the fluids and the gases leaking out of it. So gross. She could do it, though. She just had to hold her breath long enough to get it into it's bag.

The fountain of gross finally bagged, Sherry kept moving. She couldn't stop. She couldn't think about it. Do it, get it done, pretend this never happened.

Her next target did it's best to make her miserable. She had barely moved it, and it completely fell apart. "********," was all she could say as a torso hit the ground, leaving her holding two arms.

She almost threw up. Not a person. Just a thing. Don't look at it, just put the pieces in the bag. Unfortunately, this one was in a lot of pieces.
