"Already did," Rin gestured over at the basket sitting by the others, boy did he seem out of it. Not at all paying attention. She was sitting. She thought it was pretty clear she wasn't going anywhere... but apparently not clear enough, "You act as though I intend to leave any time soon."
She offered him a half-lidded smirk. A bit on the smug side but whatever got the man's attention, really.

Melvin wasn't pleased by Rin staying. He had lots of laundry to do, lots of things to not focus on, and she was here to get in the way. Pulling the whites out completely, he moved them to a side table where he started to take the sheet from the basket and inspected it. He made sure to let the bleach water sit for a while with the clothes to really penetrate the fabric, thus getting rid of any disgusting fluids that Rep and his party was no doubt up to. He hadn't even touched it when he separated the whites, instead taking a shirt and picking up the objects one by one. As if he'd touch someone's underwear, even if he was wearing gloves.
Maybe if they talked, he could skip out on dinner. "You mentioned the holidays. Do they do anything here?" He asked.

"I honestly don't know. I haven't been awake a full year yet... so I guess we'll just see?" she still had no clue to the special Melvin moments she may have been interrupting. It was entirely possible even if she did know; she wouldn't really care. She was his friend now so he was just going to have to deal with it now.

Melvin turned to frown at her. "You never asked?" He didn't like that. Thanksgiving was coming up, and that had always been a big holiday in his life. Looking back at the sheets, he pulled out his phone and sent out a tweet. It was better to know and expect something than to wind up disappointed.
"I hope it's not a lame party in the cafeteria."

"I doubt they do much. This place seems like a huge downer right now... plus they didn't do anything during easter or other holidays that I noticed..," such a shame really. These days she considered the people here more family to her than her real family ever was. At least in the end.

Melvin was glaring at more tweets came in to confirm Rin's statement. Nothing. They did nothing on one of the most important holidays all year. How could they even rip them all off like that.
Tapping his foot, he continued to read, musing to himself. "When do trainees get leave?"

"First of the month I think. But the portals I think are still down. So whenever they fix them I guess," Rin looked baffled by his sudden shift in demeanour, "you okay?"

"Yeah. Fine. Fine." He was agitated, and he stopped folding altogether at the recent prospect of doing NOTHING on Thanksgiving. It was just indecent not to do something on Thanksgiving.
"When do you think the portals will be up? Before Thanksgiving?" He didn't know if he could get out in time to get anything. It was really troublesome. It wasn't like he could find turkeys with all the fixings just laying around for him to take.

"Hmm. Could plan something if the portals weren't down...but then I'd have to request leave." He didn't know if he was allowed as a trainee, even if he would love to get off the island for a bit. Maybe he could scrap some things together and barter around the island to see what little scraps he could get. Still, it would probably wind up being very pathetic.

"I'd be glad to help but... yeah, that's a problem," Rin looked thoughtful for a moment before smiling a little, "I take it thanksgiving is important to you?"

He made a noise in agreement to the statement. It was. It always had been, no matter where he was. Then again, he always had Thanksgiving at his grandmother's place. They all did. It was a family reunion each year, complete with sights, smells, and feelings.
"If the portals come back up, would you help with getting a few things?" He asked, hearing her in some way volunteer. He had a bit of cash that reserved for Candace's shoes to spend on actual food and things. He could make a list, figure out places for many people to assemble.
Suddenly Melvin had a project, and the laundry mattered less and less.

"Yeah, sure. I had no other plans on how to spend my days off anyway. That sounds more... entertaining, quite frankly. Will you have a list though? I have no clue how to shop for that other than grabbing a honey glazed ham." She was smiling now, a subtle little genuine smile. Her friend seemed more like himself again and that made her feel better... less guilty.

"Oh, I can have a list up. Just need to think of a few things." A lot of things actually as he didn't even take into account that some people might want ham instead of turkey, then there were food allergies and to check if anyone was jewish, meaning kosher food, and vegan, meaning something with tofu. There were things to check into.
"But if you want to help when it's ready, I'd appreciate it." He had a lot to start organizing, and went back to folding but in a more more lively manner. What? He still liked folding clothes. Wasn't like he was going to bed anytime soon anyways.

Rin seemed to relax substantially. It appeared he had a fire lit under him again. No more of this depressing looming cloud now, no siree.
"I'd be glad to," she assured him again. She honestly would. It was the least she could do really, he was about to do her laundry for her after all.
