He was mortified.
Absolutely. Mortified.

ALL he wanted to do when he signed up for this was to get stronger. Fight stuff. None of this stupid-a** touchy-feely stuff, and DEFINITELY not having some girl look up to him as a role model. HELL NO.

He just wanted to curl up and die.
Damn it, why didn't he just let those insanity beasts finish him off, HELL, he should of even let that wanna-be hunter finish him off. THAT GIRL WITH THE GUNS SHOULD OF KILLED HIM.

"Yes. Yes I do. Now please go away."
Yes, please leave him alone while he wonders just what the **** went wrong and how he got stuck with this girl.
Deeeeeeeeeep deep inside, he was dying of embarrassment.

It was really too bad that a) Sherry hadn't had too much interaction in the past year and b) That Jake had already said he preferred the 'speak your mind' thing.
A) because, well, she might have noticed just how uncomfortable this was for him. B), because, well, she really liked speaking her mind. She hated that she'd be reverting back to what she was before.

Not to mention, talking with someone took her mind off the silence in her head.

"Why? I mean, why do you want to be a complete a**?" She figured she knew why he wanted her to leave. She was annoying and bothersome, after all, proven by the fact that she didn't have many friends. Unfortunately, the prospect of being alone right now was still saddening.

Not to mention, she'd gone this far. Why not just, uh, push it a little more.

[A.V.]
She's so much better after someone has called her on her apologize crap. =D
(And her player is having too much fun to stop now. >_> )

If it was anyone BUT Jake, they would say that they weren't an a*****e, that they felt her pain, and that she wasn't annoying or bothersome, and that they wanted to be her friend.
Unfortunately, this was Jake.

At this point, he was really close to curling up in fetal position.

"Because. Just because."

He shifted his body so that his back was towards her.

"It's easier that way."

Why was this happening? Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
He placed his hands firmly on the ground.
Should she prod him further, he was more than ready to book it out of there.
He was done. He was SO done.

Suddenly, the title of the thread is very much appropriate.
Don't worry, his player is not done torturing him yet nope. PLEASE CONTINUE.

"Because?" He moved so that his back was facing her. That was classic, 'leave me alone' wasn't it? Sherry bit her lip.

Normally, she would have been long gone. Hell, a few minutes ago even. But that was the old her, wasn't it? The her she didn't want to be. Armagnac hated it, and clearly Jake hated it, too. So instead, she decided to stay and press on. Besides, they were basically having a conversation.

"How is it easier? Easier than what?" She didn't understand. In her experience, it was easier to make everyone happy.

[A.V.]
I was hoping to work it in. xD
Good. >_> She has questions. And might suggest Jenga later. xD Though he may never want to talk to her again. ;;

Damn it all, why wasn't she taking the hint?
He hadn't realized that he had brought this upon himself.
Did he regret it? A little. Was he going to do anything about it? Apparently not.

He sighed.
"It just is."

Death, dying, losing loved ones, feeling incompetent. FEELINGS.
It was just so much easier to deal with it if you disconnected yourself from the world. Sever ties.

If someone died, it wouldn't matter. You barely knew them anyways. If you died? Well, that didn't matter either. No one would mourn you because they never knew you. Or better yet, they resented you, and your death made them a little happier. It wouldn't hurt anyone.

His fingers dug into the ground.

Yes. It was better that way.

GrnGriff
YES PLZ JENGA. THEY SHOULD DO DARES. /killed
And nah, he's just having FEELS.
(OMG wat r emotions /donotwant)

Sherry had never been good with hints. And sometimes she just ignored them. Now that she was feeling a little better, well...

She scooted a little closer to the death trainee. "That's not really an answer. I always found it easier to be nice to people. How is being an a** and making everyone either hate you or themselves easier?"

She just didn't understand.

[A.V.]
Yes. She will suggest it...later. >_> After some more feels, maybe?

"It just IS, ok?"
His reply sounded exasperated.

What was he SUPPOSED to say? He didn't want any of this.
Why couldn't she just LEAVE HIM ALONE?

Sherry pursed her lips. That still wasn't an answer. She still didn't get it. How was making everyone mad at you easier? If everyone was mad at you, then no one would be your friend, or want to help you. Sherry was the first to admit she didn't have tons of friends, but she knew she could go to people for help.

She sighed, moving even closer to the death trainee. She remembered the things he'd said back in the Haunted House. She'd seen it in his face, and heard it in his voice. Something like sadness, or loneliness. She wasn't quite sure.

She was sure he was pushing people away. She just couldn't wrap her mind around why. He wasn't as mean as he tried to be, surely. So why did he want to be lonely?

She did know one thing, however.

"I disagree," she said calmly. Then she leaned in close, put her arms around the boy's shoulders, and gave a little squeeze. She hugged him.

No, Jake. Sherry knew one thing, right then and there. You weren't pushing her away that easily. No one deserves to be lonely.

[A.V.]

Damn it all, why...
It was happening again. He didn't want any of this.
Why wouldn't she go?

Suddenly, he felt a pair of arms wrap around her.
What...
He flinched at the touch, and suddenly remembered the memory back at the Haunted House.
Cath- no, there was no fog, no hallucination this time, so, just who...

Instinctively, he pulled away and pushed himself off the ground, now towering over Sherry.

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?!"

Part of him was a little surprised at the outburst, but...no. He couldn't go through this again. He stared at her, seething, but the expression she gave him made him freeze, and he turned around.

"Why can't you understand that I don't WANT friends? I don't want... any of this..."

His shoulders sagged.
Why couldn't things... just go back the way they were?
Why... did she have to remind him of her?

He didn't deserve it at all. So... why?

WHELP. FEELS. YUP.
PostPosted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 6:52 pm

She hadn't known what reaction to expect, really. Hell, she hardly knew why she'd reached out and hugged him. It was just, she thought she saw something there, something that she understood. A pain, a loneliness, something that she tried to avoid. Or maybe she was just lonely.

She realized her mistake almost immediately. For half a second, she'd thought he might hit her, but instead he just stood and glared at her. That was almost as terrifying.

"I'm sorry, I--," she said, looking up at him. Tears were beginning to form in her eyes as her heart bottomed out again. She'd upset him. She should have left earlier, but she hadn't. Why not? Did she want to make sure he was ok? Did she enjoy making him angry? Or was she just plain so lonely at that point that she didn't want to be alone? Selfish. It didn't matter what her motives were. In the end, it had all been selfish. And now they were both upset.

"I just can't understand why anyone would choose to be utterly alone. To me, that is most terrifying thing in the world. So, I just can't figure out why you would choose it." She sat there and looked up at him, emotions turning inside her. She was angry. Angry at herself, angry at him, and angry at herself for being mad at him. She was embarrassed. Embarrassed that she'd allowed herself to mess up so badly in front of someone. And she was hurt. This is why she didn't try harder to be friends with people. Armagnac was wrong. There was something wrong with Sherry. She cared too much. About everything and everyone. She might not have deserved the same in return, but it didn't stop her from wanting it. Selfish.

"Can you tell me why? Why do you want to be alone?" She wiped away one tear, continuing to stare up at his back. And maybe tell me why I'm not good enough to be your friend?

[A.V]
Um. Have some word vomit. Laced with feels.

Was she... crying?
Damn it, he just couldn't catch a break today.

"It's a choice I made." he answered, exasperated. His next response came out softer. "A choice I should of stuck with."

It was easier, wasn't it? No one would depend on you, expect anything from you, and you didn't have to rely on anyone else. Nothing would hold you down, hold you back. You could do whatever you want, and it wouldn't affect anyone. No one would care. No one would pay you any mind. That was how it had always been. It was just easier.

But then along came her, and turned his world upside down.
Despite every retort, snarky remark, insult... even when he PHYSICALLY pushed her away, it never deterred her. She still continued to smile, to reach out to him, to care for him. She gave him everything he never had, everything he ever wanted, and then... she took it all away. Just like that.

Even now, he was still trying to recover, trying to forget. He wouldn't make the same mistake twice. He wouldn't let himself be hurt again. He wouldn't let someone else get hurt on behalf of him.

He turned around to face her, a blank expression on his face.

"Let me ask you this then. Why are YOU trying so hard? Surely, if you wanted a friend, you could easily make one. There are TONS of hunters here, many which I'm sure would make MUCH better friends. And yet, you still try. I've been nothing but rude to you, and yet you still try.

... Why? What's in it for you?"

MORE WORDS AND FEELS.
What has she done to Jake? LOL
PostPosted: Sun Oct 28, 2012 9:46 pm

Sherry shifted, but didn't stand. She sat, arms wrapped under her knees, in some effort to comfort herself. Her brain was playing it all over. All that he'd said and done, all she'd said and done. They hadn't even known each other very long.

A choice he'd made? She sniffed. But why? Didn't it hurt to be alone?

She looked up as he turned around. His face was blank, but she couldn't meet his eyes. I'm ashamed to, she thought to herself. She'd messed up. By being nice-- no by being annoying. I've done nothing but upset him.

He asked her a question.

Sherry almost flinched. "Why?" she repeated. Why was she sitting her torturing them both? Because she thought they could be friends. Wrong, wrong, wrong. She'd messed up. That was all she did, on the battle field and off.

"Because," she began, finally meeting his eye. "Because I- Are you really that terrible deep down? Really so terrible that you don't want friends? Why? What happened to you to make you want to hurt someone that tries to be nice you?

"You want to know why? Because in those small moments, I think I actually enjoyed your company. I'm sorry that I'm not good enough to be your friend," she felt the tears fall, but she didn't care. "Because I thought maybe we could have been. I really didn't think you were that bad.

"And maybe I still don't. So tell me, Jake, why am I not good enough to be your friend? Why are you being so very mean to me when I was trying to be nice?"

No, this girl just didn't understand.
And now she was thinking she wasn't good enough to be his friend?
... he wasn't sure what to do anymore.

Letting out a sigh, he squatted down, looking her in the eye.

"Listen here. There's... a lot you don't know about me. Stuff you never SHOULD know about me. I'm not who you think I am. I'm not..."

He let his gaze drop to the ground.

"I've done a lot of stuff I regretted before coming here. Stuff I wish I could take back, but can't. I already told you there was nothing left for me when I became a hunter, right? Nothing to protect?"

He looked up now, a bitter smile on his face.

"That's because I killed the person I was supposed to protect. They never should of gotten involved in my life, but they did. And they died because of it."

He rose to his feet, hoping that those words would slowly sink in.

"You're a smart girl. I think you can find some other people to be your friends. Don't get yourself involved with someone like me. It's not worth it."

GrnGriff
I DUNNO ANYMORE. /sob

She gave a small sniff as she watched him get down to her level. She listened, quiet, turning the words over in her mind.

He killed the person he was supposed to protect? Sherry just looked at him for a moment. What did that mean? Her mind tried to race, but she was too tired for that. So, instead she focused on one little thing, he seemed sad. Whatever it was that he'd done, it hurt him. It was slowly beginning to make sense now. Why he wanted to be alone. He felt guilty, and deep down, he was hurt.

Sherry didn't move as he stood. She just sat there, thinking. After a few long moments the back of one hand wiped at her cheek, and she looked up.

"I'm sorry," she said. There were no other words for the short hint at his past he'd just shared. She knew he wasn't likely to listen anyway. "I'm so sorry." New tears were forming now, but not for her this time. She looked at her feet.

"I'm sorry, Jake. And I'm stupid."

Wait. Was she crying because she was... pitying him?
Damn it, he just couldn't do anything right.
He didn't WANT her pity. He didn't need it. He didn't deserve it.

To be honest, he was trying to scare her, to make her see why it wasn't worth it.
She would only get herself killed if she hung around him. Hadn't she already seen how reckless he was? He couldn't protect anything, couldn't save squat, so he'd rather not have another death weigh on his conscience, though... it was already too late. Despite wanting nothing to do with her, she still showed that same stubborn determination. Still tried to befriend him. She managed to worm her way into his life already, and she hadn't even noticed it.

He rubbed them back of his neck.
Damn... what was he supposed to do now?

"... Hey. Are you still crying?"
Ugh, he didn't know how to deal with this.
"Stop apologizing. You're not stupid, ok? Just really bad at picking out who you want to hang with."
