My Story:
Have you heard of Jeff my dear? Legend has it that Jeff went missing a couple of years prior to this very night. About seventeen years to be exact. No one knows where he had gone, but all we know is that he is now in fact, gone. Jeff was not one to run away, no he was not. He was happy and full of life, able to be content with whatever we would give to him. Five years of age only, and gone. The neighborhood searched for him, in and out, but still no sign. He was a tiger, just like me and you. Oh, you think that he sounds like you? Maybe. Perhaps. I don't know my dear, but I do know that it is past your bedtime. Stay up you say? Alright. I shall continue. So everyone was on the search for young Jeff until the midmoon came. That was a good two weeks of searching. In the end, everyone gave up except for Jeff's parents. His mother sensed that he was nearby somewhere, but where? He father was worried about his other children and watched over them fearfully. When he was alone, he felt like something was watching him. Every night. Some presence was around, staring at him, or so he said. Seventeen years after, the father was found, covered by the blood... of Jeff. No one knows where he is, or where or who he shall strike next, so kids, stay in your dens and sharpen your claws, because you might just be behind you ..

no..both contest 1 and contest 2 are for newbies only. This entire page is for newbies with 2 contests, 2 chances for 2 different babies. The other images are just to show who else is in the family and their names.

To clarify, the other three babies already have homes. :3 There were two left without owners, and haru chose to give them away. Instead of having it so that anyone could try out for them, she made it so that those with 0-5 pets could win them.

Reason for the name: He's got a great natural look about him, very Mossy.

My Story:
The air was chilly and more than slightly stale. The scent of cigar and cigarette smoke mingled with sweat, dirt, and wisps, now again of animal feces, forming a sort of artificial haze that hung in the air. The haze was accented by the bright red and orange streaks that formed a 360-degree dome enclosing a very loud, very excitable group of otherwise ordinary tourists. They sat in rows around the center of the dome, smiles already half formed on their lips. Mille popped her gum loudly. The sound disappeared in another wave of laughter from the front rows. She kicked the chair in front of her, and man sitting there turned around to glare. She smiled cheekily, and he turned back around with a grumble. What a way to spend Halloween.

The smile fell from her face, and Mille turned to her left with a sigh, “Can’t we go? This is so lame.” She plopped her cheek against the shoulder of the person next to her, and Jake looked down at her. Those eyes. Why did she always have to use those eyes?

“Alright, let’s go. I bet there is something cool around here.” Jake grabbed her hand and pulled her up, turning and slipping through a slit in the orange tent, leaving in a boom of laughter.

Outside the air was colder, but still ripe with the oddly mixing scents of cotton candy and wet hay. Around them, more tents pierced the night sky, each of various sizes and shapes. Mille and Jake walked slowly among them, serenaded by the sounds of ringing bells, music, laughter, calls of encouragement, and cries of amazement. To their left they saw a strongman flex his muscles and a woman slide three swords down her throat. To their right, a more unusual sight greeted them. It was a man, but a man unlike they had seen before. Head to foot his body was covered with scales, so painstakingly tattooed upon his body in such detail, they seemed to glimmer in the lamp light. His hair was hacked short, in a sort of unkempt mohawk that revealed the cruel work upon his ears. Whether it was by the hand of man or nature, it was impossible to tell, but the cartilage at the top of his ears had been carved away, leaving them pointed upward. This man, this creature, turned to grab a bottle off a nearby table, and Jake and Mille stared, enraptured, as did many. The man/creature took a swig of from the bottle and grabbed a torch with another. Jake jumped back, pulling Mille with him, as he spewed fire from his throat into the faces of his surprised audience. Shocked cries rang out, and a cruel little grin graced the man’s face when he had finished, pleased, perhaps, for disturbing those that made a mockery of him. As the audience turned away, Jake and Mille lingered a moment more, watching. The Dragon, for that was his stage name, had turned to replace the articles of his performance. Jake’s eyes slide down at the man’s tattooed backside; a vestigial tail hung over his shorts.
Moving on, the pair saw advertisements for fantastical shows, with an odd soundtrack of beastly roars from the slits of some tents offering some very interesting entertainment indeed. However, Mille was restless. “Come on, Jake. We’ve seen all this before. ‘Jackal the Magnificent,’ ‘Horatio the Lion Tamer,’ ‘Eleanor the Illusionist;’ they were all here last year…” She whined pitifully, tugging on his arm. Jake looked down at her with a fond smile on his face and shook his head. Geeze, those eyes again.

Unsure what to tell her, he was about to open his mouth to suggest they leave, when he saw an unadorned tent held off to the side. It was the an ominous black color. There was no sign, no strongman, no peddler. Just a slit in dark fabric. Jake pointed in its direction, “How about there? We haven’t been there before.”

Mille follwed Jake’s gaze and gave the tent a look of suspicion. “I don’t know,” she said doubtfully. “It looks closed.”

Jake merely smiled brilliantly at her, sure that he had found something with which to amuse her. “Perfect. Then we won’t have seen it before.”

Moving toward the tent, he dragged an unresisting Mille along with him. At the entrance, a very generous term for the slight parting of the tent’s fabric, Jake slide inside. The interior of the tent was dark, lit only by the light of a few torches. Unlike the outside of the tent, which was pitch black, the inside was a deep, blood red, which flickered eerily in the torchlight. In the center tent stood a tall stage. Upon the stage was what appeared to be a thrown. It was made of elegantly carved wood, with a strong back, and heavy clawed arms, resting on matching clawed feet.

Jake looked at Mille and grinned, “I guess you’re right. No show here.” Dropping her hand, he raced to the middle of the tent, where the stage was laid out. Laughing, he climbed two of the stairs and looked back at his date. “I guess we’ll have to be the show!” Taking the few stairs up – the stage seemed inordinately tall, taller than any of the stages they had seen in other tents – the walked over to the chair. With interest, he caressed the polished surface of the wood with his fingers, then abruptly turned and plopped his body into the seat. Grabbing each arm, he sat with his back straight and took a stern look upon his face as he looked over at Mille. “Now I am King!”

- - - - -
Deeper in the tent, between twists and turns of fabric that formed a corridor to the performers dressing rooms, a much different scene played out. A man dressed head to toe in black was busy putting a white pasty makeup upon his face. As he reached up toward his face with a glop of it on his finger, he was suddenly jostled, and the junk went into his eye. With a curse, he danced about, desperately trying to extract the stinging goo. “Damnit, Ghoul! What the devil are you doing? Be still!!”

The little creature to whom he spoke took little heed of his words. It grinned, and using its longs arms and small, flexible body, flung itself up onto the man’s dressing table. Balancing carefully with his fuzzy black tail, he poke and prodded at the various instruments upon the table. Ghoul, as the little monkey was known, was used to his master’s fits. Picking up the jar of white makeup, he waved it about curiously. The master, still blind in one eye, was not amused. Grabbing the jar and thrusting it back on the table with a clang, he brushed the monkey violently from the table. “Out! Out of my sight!” In a lower voice he grumbled, “I swear, always out to vex me…”

Ghoul recovered with agility from his fall, though he was put out for having been disrupted in his fun. Left to his own devices, he looked about the small room for something else to entertain him. There was little in the room besides the dressing table and full length mirror. The only other article was an adult size human dummy, incredibly lifelike, which lay upon the floor, discarded. Having seen all of these things a million times before, immediately Ghoul’s eyes caught upon the one rare sight. The door to their little cavern was open. Surely it was only a small amount, a sliver of light. However, Ghoul was a small monkey. The sliver of light was gone in an instant.

----------

Back in the main tent, Mille was rolling her eyes up at Jake. “King, huh? King of what? An empty tent?”

Jake laughed and thrust his hands up in the air imploringly, “Aw, come on Mille! Have a little imagination!”

At just that moment, movement up a previously unseen slit on the interior of the tent grabbed both of their attentions. Ghoul, whom had found the familiar way through the corridors, scurried into the tent. He paused in surprise upon seeing Mille standing so close to him, only a few feet away.

“Awww! Jake! Jake, it’s a monkey! Aw, he’s so cute!” Mille said with delight. She reached out a hand to touch the soft, seemingly innocent creature.

Ghoul, whom had paused to stare up at Mille, was broken from his frozen state by Mille’s movement. He jumped up onto a folded seat and made his way down the isle to the center of the tent. Upon reaching the center, he looked up and paused again, staring at Jake, whom still sat in the chair.

“Whoa, you’re right!” Jake cried. “It is a monkey! I wonder what he is doing here. Is he lost?” Address the monkey, Jake asked in a singsong voice usually reserved for dogs and children, “Are you lost, little guy?”

Ghoul, whom was anything but lost, stared at the man sitting in the chair with a certain peculiar focus. The sight of the man in the chair clicked on his training, which had been so cruelly and regularly beaten into him. Thoughts of fun and exploration now long gone from his mind, Ghoul went to work at what he had been trained. The act had been set, and Ghoul was ready to perform.

The little monkey jumped from the chair in the center isle onto the steps of the stage. Climbing them easily, he raced over to the chair. Jake smiled down at him, only a little uneasily at having a wild animal so near. “Wow, look! He must like me! He came right up to me!” To the monkey, he reached out a careful hand and in a soft voice said, “Hey there, little guy…”

To Jake’s surprise, the monkey jumped up into his lap. For a moment, Ghoul paused and stared at the man. This was a strange dummy, the little monkey surely thought, if thinking was what he did. Jake, whom had been shocked into stillness by the action of the monkey, was shocked still more when the monkey raced up his arm to the back of the chair. Jake couldn’t see what the monkey was doing, but he could feel it moving around. Its long fuzzy tail hung down by his cheek, and Jake nuzzled it wonderingly.

Mille, whom had watched these ongoings with some surprise, now came around the front of the stage, a look of some jealousy on her face. “Wow, I guess he really does like you…. What is he doing?”

Ghoul, whom easily ignored the sounds of two voices, was busy with his work. From the back of the chair, he reached behind and grabbed a loose rope that neither human had noticed. With his nimble fingers and by his rigorous training, he did what he had done a thousand times before. He tied a slipknot loosely with the rope. When he had finished, the turned and slipped it over Jake’s head.

Jake was startled at the feeling of rope being thrown over his neck. He turned in the chair to look at the monkey, “Hey, what’s this?” Feeling the rope his his fingers, he guess at it’s function. Laughing he tugged reached behind his neck and tucked the knot snuggly closed, pulling up upward comically and pretended to hang himself. Mille laughed at his antics, “I guess its part of his show.”

Jake dropped the still tightly held knot and laughed, “Yeah, must be. They’ve got lots of strange shows around here. Well, good thing the performer isn’t here. I don’t think I’d want to be part of this act!” He said, gesturing to the rope with his hand. Turning his head, he looked at the monkey, which still sat perched on the back of the chair. “Fortunately, little guy, I don’t think you’re quite strong enough to hang me. That would really be a feat!” Both he and Mille laughed loudly, the rope chaffing at Jake’s neck as he did so.

The monkey watched the humans with some interest. Usually no one laughed during his performance. A deathly silence was the usual soundtrack. If monkey’s could shrug, he surely would have. Jumping down from the chair, he went about his business.

Mille and Jake looked at each other, still smiling, bellies sore from laughing. “Ah,” Jake said with a sigh, “What shall we do now? You still want to go home?”

Mille, whose spirits had been lifted by the strange appearance of the monkey, was feeling more cheerful. “Nah, this place is pretty interesting. Let’s see the rest and then go.” Jake nodded.

Meanwhile, Ghoul was intent upon finishing his duty. While other acts required human masters to lead the way and perform the major functions, Ghoul was a master in his own right, a performer in his own act. While the human pair had continued rattling on, he had scurried into position, leaping onto a perch on the wall as only a monkey could do. Just as the humans grew quiet in their chatter, Ghoul flicked a switch protruding from the wall.

Barely a sound issued as a hidden trap door beneath the chair swung open. Duel sounds of the chair falling suddenly out from under its occupant and hitting the floor below issued in tune with a sickening crack as the unyielding rope went taut with the weight of Jake’s body. His body swung to and fro in the hole, his head lolling sideways.

Mille’s scream pierced the air.
