What...
WHAT!?!?!
"What!?!?!?!?" Otto yelped, looking heartbroken. "But I...I thought I'd get one more growth spurt at leas---..." He turned 18 in a few days. Sure, a lot of boys his age kept growing till 19 or 20, but with the effects of the Island and Fear exposure...
Suddenly Otto looked like he'd died inside.
There would be no more cheer ever.

Clerise blinked, and felt a pang in her chest. She might as well have just have told him he was going to die in two days, from the look on his face.
"I mean, I guess it's possible, Dakota got one. But, dude, you can't bank on that. Dude was like a weed with how he shot up."
She inched over to where he was, scooping him up bridal style because she could, hugging him. "Nothing wrong with being adorable sized!"

This was the worst Birthday week ever.
To rub salt in the open wound, he was soon scooped up like a child. The little ball of fury was livid now instead of broken. "Everything is wrong with being adorable sized! I'm a GUY!!"

She snickered a little, trying to hold onto him. "Dude, who cares? You can be adorable sized and still pick up chicks."
Clerise contemplated putting him down, but a mad-Otto was way better than a sad-Otto, by like, a million degrees. At least this one could pitch a fit, instead of having the most heartbreaking face in the entire world. Seriously. Like a depressed puppy who got no treats and no love and got shamed.
"Besides. You can also short and still be a certified ********' badass, dude. Cool factor isn't tied to your height."

What did this have to do with chicks? Otto just wanted to be an equal to all the other guys in Deus, towering over him and snickering like they were better. Those bastards. Not that he was against picking up chicks. It just wasn't a big priority.
"Yeah but then I gotta try even harder to be badass! That BITES!" He retorted with a huff, squirming in her grasp some more. And without Tenya it would be near impossible to be a badass.

Clerise rolled her eyes. "DUDE. If you're trying to be a badass, you're doing it so many levels of wrong, Prodigy."
She dumped him on his bed, hands on her hips. "Besides, who are you comparing yourself to, here? Robert's a dingus. Rep's a jerk. Dakota's a complete....well, he's Dakota. Enough said. What are you trying to be, here? We-- Eva, Reine, others I'm sure-- like you as is. So."
The redhead shrugged. "Or you can be a baby about the fact that genetics ******** you over, whatever. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh."

A grunt escaped the boy as he was dumped onto the bed. A roll later and he was sitting up, staring up at the red head with a slightly annoyed stare. As she listed off different tall guys in Deus, Otto had to smirk. Yeah, Robert was a dingus. Yes, Rep is a jerk. And yeah, Dakota was a special snowflake. Otto wasn't trying to be any of them. He liked himself as he was, just didn't care for his height.
"M'not bein' a baby." Otto said with a indignant huff. "Sides, I don't wanna be like none of those losers." Otto made that clear. "Rep bitches more than a woman on the rag, Dakota is a flake and Robert's just stupid. And don't get my started on that prissy boy Gale."
"But.." Otto rubbed his neck. "Havin' Tenya made me special. I stood out, yaknow?"

Clerise lazily clambered onto the bed next to Otto, making sure to give him some space. She swung her legs as he listed off facts about the people she had mentioned, nodding.
"Heh Heh. Yeah, Grumpybutt sure is something. So serious, all the time."
And then he mentioned Tenya, and she gave him a look.
"You still have her tablet, right? It's not broken?"

"Yeah? Everyone says that they aren't dead. But I been around people grieving all my life. I know the signs of denial anywhere. It ain't healthy." Otto reached across his bed to pull the tablet from under his pillow.
"But I heard her. I felt it. I don't wanna bank on her coming back, cause that'd be harder to deal with down the road if she doesn't."

Clerise nodded, looking at the tablet but not touching it. She wanted to, but Balthazar cautioned that it might 'be a tad rude, sheila.' So she ignored her itching fingers, and instead reached out to pat Otto's knee.
"When Balthazar broke, I thought I was like, fifteen types of ********. It's creepy, right? Waking up and there's nothing but a yawning chasm of silence where there was chatter before. A lot of nothing when there was a comforting presence. You're alone."
She flopped back, staring at his ceiling.
"But, in the end, Clarice told me his core had just changed before it was ready, before either of us were ready. Clerise wasn't too much for details, but she remembered that day clearly: the snow, the daggers, the kiss, and a Julie snowgirl. A day of peace and mourning in the whirlwind that had almost been the apocalypse.
Usually its the weapon that powers a bond, ensuring the hunter's survival. But in this case, you're the one keeping him from breaking altogether. If you died, he wouldn't be able to reform as a tablet.
"She told me that if I died, while he was broken-- he'd die, too. He wouldn't be able to put himself back together, reform as a tablet."
The redhead gestured at Tenya's tablet. "She reformed, though. So maybe she's just sleeping?"

Otto turned enough to watch Clerise where she'd flopped down. He didn't like being babied, or given a sugar coated medicine. But Clerise spoke from experience. He'd even been with her on her promotion mission when she'd gotten Balthazar back.
He turned again to look at the tablet in his hand, wondering if Tenya was indeed trapped in some sort of sleep. Ami had said something similar, though her circumstances were different.
"Well.. I guess so.." Otto murmured, sliding the tablet away from him.
"So.. wanna go hunting for Christmas lights? Though I might need pants if we're leavin' the room.."

"I hope so," Clerise murmured. "Otherwise, it's like...A bunch of people who don't have weapons. That would suck balls."
She turned to face Otto. "Pants are overrated." She poked at the heart boxers, smirking. "But probably a good idea. Or else you might get some admirers, and some people, especially in the labs?-- are kinda creepy."
She covered her eyes with both hands. "I won't peek, prodigy. Make yourself decent."

"Lab people are generally creepy. It's like a requirement." And yes, he meant you too, Clerise. "I'm a 'lil leary of admirors, anyway." Thanks to that damn rose.
He really needed to thank Melvin yet.
The teenager rolled his eyes and got up from his bed. "Oh whatever, girly. Ain't even strippin'." The blonde rifled through his piles of clothing until he found his shorts, tugging those on in no time at all.
There was a fort to be built!
