There was something about a beast covered in feathers that...failed at coming across as fierce. Though she was sure those talons weren't for show, and that its muzzle was full of sharp teeth, bit was just...so fluffy looking.

"The Radaku are the second top predator in Jahaur, the first being the Menzuri a giant crystalline like spider. I dunno but I don't think I would want to get tangled up with any of them. " Her face looked as if the sheer idea of trying to get in a fight with any of those creatures was...a very bad idea. Although she had never seen the menzuri in person, she didn't have to, to know that through tales told by the elders in her tribe you didn't want to run across one. The shifters had enough problems dealing with them...

Looking over at his comment about a sanctuary she pondered this. Would creatures have such a thing? She supposed it could be true. A place the animals had discovered and yet they had not. Actually the more she thought on that the more it may actually be plausible.

"You could be right. I never got to go on the big hunts with everyone...at least now I may be more useful having my hammer." She mused before looking to Ruelash again pondering his sudden interest in talking.

The Menzuri sounded interesting! Top predator? Made of crystal? He bet he could get a great trophy off of it!
Though he wasn't sure what she meant by spider. Whatever! He didn't want to ask.
He looked at her hammer again, thinking for a moment. Thinking wasn't something he did much of. He wasn't a stupid earthling, but thinking wasn't his strong suit.

He was thinking over hammers in hunts.
"Ya." this was even rarer- he was thinking out loud. The subject really did intrigue him.
"But ya'd have ta get close..." would be dangerous. REALLY dangerous. Now, he liked dangerous a lot. But some days even he just wanted to be over and done with things.
"Take you a while ta' swing it..." which wasn't something he was happy about, hammer wise. He wouldn't have a hammer when he was older, that was for sure.
Swords were better. Faster. He was all about being fast and deadly. Danger was one thing, inconvenience another.
Hammers were all right. Big and crushing and they could probably take off a head. The one she had looked nice and big and painful.

But they had a lot of disadvantages.
"Ya ever thought about..."
What if...
He mimed a throwing action, watching her.
"Gettin' a hammer ya could throw?"
Whoaaaa, that was an awesome idea!
He grinned a sharp grin at the idea. It'd be like an arrow, but WHAM!

He really didn't get these kinds of ideas often.

Now the conversation was getting more interesting as the guide had begun to actually speak his mind openly. Keilana turned to look at him considering what he was saying before giving a slight nod of her head. Yeah she would have to get in close, after all her hammers reach wasn't all the long. Unlike bows or spears she had get right intimate with the creatures she was fighting..or people.

"Its not a fast weapon..your right. But it deals a lot of damage due to its weight. I guess you'd call me a heavy hitter, when we came up here..we had to fight a dragon like creature in the mountain, we worked in a group and though I didn't do the most damage a shifter mage..I think did ..no wait..isn't he a healer?' Keilana was now musing, as she wasn't exactly sure what Takoda did, her only opinion on him was she didn't like him. 'I dealt the final blow though." She wasn't trying to boast...not...really but she was proud of her weapon and her choice in choosing it.

The idea of throwing the hammer made her eyes go wide. Throw it? Then she would be ..weaponless. But...she supposed if she threw it charged in and then grabbed it again it was possible to stun a creature before even getting in close.

"Throwing it..is certainly an idea...I was considering when I got older asking to have the hammer be placed on a longer shaft, the head made smaller. That way I could get the range I need..though it wouldn't do as much damage I suppose with a smaller head." She mused again out loud lifting her hammer to look it over.

"If ya had two hammers, an' you threw one, you could charge in with the other hammer an' beat 'em while they were stunned. Then ya could grab the other hammer and do it all over again." He puffed up a little. It was almost scary how well Ruelash's brain was working right now. It was like he was actually smart for once. It was kind of nice, but he knew it was fleeting. He told himself he didn't care.
"I guess the balance'd be different an the way you'd use it would be different, but I think it'd be pretty effective." In fact the idea was tempting him to change his mind from dual swords to hammer.
Tempting. A bit.
Swords were still more awesome.

"Longer shaft though..." he thought for a moment. It did take a bit of effort, but he was on a roll today. He could even grasp lever physics.
"Small head shouldn't matter much 'cause when you have a longer shaft it goes faster anyway." he said, thinking. He didn't have a sophisticated understanding of lever physics, but when you had a longer stick, it took longer to swing and it hit harder. Maybe because it was falling? Eh. Who cared why? It worked.
"So th' smaller head, which keeps it lighter so ya can actually swing it..." though she did look strong. Definitely not as cushy and sheltered as he had thought before. HE WAS STILL GRUMPY THOUGH.
Or so he told himself. "Is made up for by th' power ya swing it with. An' the longer swing is made up for by th' range." he nodded.
"So I like th' idea." as if his opinion was the best thing out there.
It had to be! He didn't normally have important ones like this!

The idea of throwing a weapon was a new concept to her, though she wasn't sure how she felt about having her weapon tossed only to be discarded until she managed to grab it again. Though she supposed that, that was the point of having the second hammer so that she could attack straight away. Still to throw a hammer it would still need a smaller head so that it could gain the distance from being thrown.

"Huh yeah I never thought of it that way." The woman gave a appreciative nod of her head, the way he described it made sense, being lighter she could swing faster in in theory hit just as hard.

"Its a good point though.." Looking around she pondered, they had gotten so carried away with talking about weapons that the day was already coming to an end. "Perhaps we should head back, we may not of gotten anything but I'd rather get back before dark."

"Nah, ya don't go back empty handed." said Ruelash, shrugging. He'd get yelled at, likly. Those morons liked to yell at him. Probably made them feel all powerful-like. Well good for them. Let them yell their annoying complaints. One day he'd show 'em all why they should fear him. Heh.
He looked around for something to catch. Ooo! Yes, perfect. And fresh.
"Look here" he crouched down to some tracks, "Bahju. Not as big as Mammu, but not tiny like a Chuka neither. They migrate, ya know. They go to Sauti in th' cold months" he thought so, anyway. Maybe they went to a sanctuary! Hey! It had been a good idea after all. He puffed himself up a little. See? He wasn't dumb.
Oh who was he kidding? He just had a (sort of) good day for it, that was all, praise Bergchi.
"They're wide, with narrow little faces an hooves. Want 'un?" he gave her a small not-entirely-nonthreatening grin.
Or are ya gonna be a sissy afraid of the dark
Not that the dark wasn't dangerous, mind. Lots of predators didn't like the blinding lice-reflected light of day. But fearing it made you as much prey as not fearing it, and he knew the way back.

Keilana had to admire his perseverance on the subject of hunting and in her own home land she would be just as stubborn to make sure she didn't go home empty handed but looking above at the rapidly darkening sky she didn't exactly want to get caught outside quite literally in the snow and cold. Still she was finding it hard to turn the guy down when he had warmed up to her. The guy wasn't all that bad now that he seemed to have relaxed a smidgen.

With a sigh she nodded her head, yes she would prefer to have something to show for her efforts but given how her brother was if she was out after dark he would probably come looking for her and then she'd never hear the end of it either.

"If its close by alright. I have my brother I need to worry about I don't want to be out here after dark else he may start worrying." She stated as she hefted her hammer going to take a look at the tracks that he was pointing out.

Ruelash almost rolled his eyes, almost. He had no idea how he managed not to do so.
"Ya, they're fresh, leadin..." he gestured, "That way." his voice lowered gradually until it was just above a harsh whisper.
"Theres a clearin' nearby. It's probably there, scroungin'. Or grazin'..." he hesitated. "Or whatever."
He didn't see two sets of prints so it probably wasn't mating, though that would bag two and wouldn't that be great.
Oh sure, he could listen to Veshki's explanation that if you killed the mating ones then there wouldn't be more, but it wasn't like ya stumbled on mating Bahju all the time. Would be funny, though. One for each of the two of them.
He slipped off the path, waving Keilana to follow him, a big grin on his face as he anticipated the hunting and the killing. Especially the killing. He couldn't wait to see her big ol' hammer in action, even if it wasn't on him.

Well he knew what he was doing anyway, though looking over the tracks she readied her hammer in hand, keeping it close to her body as she followed behind Ruelash. It was stranger for her as she didn't know the species they were hunting, she didn't know their tricks or their habits so it was like hunting something almost unseen. So she would follow the man's lead, strike when it looked most appropriate.

So she would be his shadow stepping where he stepped and following his intuition. Though she was a trifle worried about his expression...that grin described a person who was excited...even eager to hunt...or was it to kill? It was hard to tell with this one but it sent a shiver down her spine. She kept quiet waiting for a sign that they were close.

There they were. One lone Bahju, munching away at what it could dig out of the snow. The Bahju was a thick creature with a thickly-maned neck and a narrow rodent's face, though it was about the size of a goat. It's front hooves were small, shovel-like scoops for digging through the snow, and it's back legs were thick and short, built for quick bursts of bounding. It was nervous, Ruelash could see that: it was tense under its thick, wiry coat and it chittered as it ate. It would have been more fun to take it unaware, but Ruelash beckoned the leaf woman over. If it was spooked, it would sprint away, then tire. It would then curl up very tight and hide until it could recover it's strength. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem. With a critter like that, you run them until they were tired and then you kept going and stabbed it hard while it gasped... or you ran it more until it died from exhaustion.
Bahju were good at hiding, though, and easy to miss. It was because of that that you didn't want to spook 'em. Best to get them while they were in the open.
This one was wary. Ruelash motioned to Keilana to go around behind it. If she got it from behind, then it wouldn't have a chance to run away, and he could run in and keep it from getting away while she killed it. That would be fun...

Crouching once they had happened upon the creature she studied it intently, it was small...it was nervous she would need to be careful and aim well when she got close enough. Noting his gesture she nodded her head, and moved agonizingly slowly around the creature trying to keep herself hidden so that it wouldn't notice her or spook.

Hopefully the wind wouldn't pick up and give away her position, and with every slight crunch of snow under her boot. Still the creature didn't bolt just yet, though it did seem very nervous. Clutching her hammer close to her chest she kept her gaze locked on the creature, she would have to remind herself to ask Rue'lash what the animal was called.

Finally in position she looked to her guide looking for confirmation on the go ahead.
PostPosted: Sun May 19, 2013 5:55 am

Ruelash watched. Seems she had the right moves. Heck, she didn't make a sound. He was impressed. Yeah, definitely not as soft as he had thought before.
He watched, trying not to vibrate with impatience. He really wanted to go ahead and hit it NOW, but that was stupid. It would run away, and then there would be nothing to show for it.
Besides, she was waiting for him for the signal. HIM. HIM! That sort of authority felt good, a real rush. He had the power to send her careening with her deadly weapon at the helpless animal, whether she was ready or not. He had the power to decide these things. That was new. Mostly people didn't listen. They did the ordering or they scurried away.
He waited for the muscles on the Bahju to relax, just a bit, before tensing for a charge. Oh yeah, this was what made all the writing s**t worth it.
He gave the signal, waited a moment for her to start moving, and then charged forward himself, aiming low to grapple the creature down.

Keilana watched out of the corner of her eye for Ruelash's signal, it came and she then burst forward her hammer was pulled back for a powerful thrust forward. Watching as Ruelash came out at the creature looking as if he was trying to cut off its escape or slow it down. Worry creased her features as she didn't want to accidentally smash her hammer into her guide. How would she explain that? Dragging a rather broken Ruelash back to his home with hammer wounds in tow?

Still she couldn't let her worries stay her hand, bringing it up she went to bring the weapon down in a base ball like swing into the creatures side and flank. It would sent it careening hopefully into Ruelash's awaiting hands. He could finish it, her goal was to just slow it down. Her blow should break several ribs as well wind the creature. But nothing about her hammer could end its life quickly unless it was small enough to crush its skull in one blow.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 02, 2013 11:37 am

Ruelash heard the crunch as bone met a force it could not withstand. He heard their prey screech in pain and try to run away.
Well that wasn't happening! He grabbed it's forelegs, tripping it and tumbling into the snow with it as it tried to struggle. He pinned it down.
He wasn't exactly unarmed- he had his dagger with him but it wasn't a very good dagger.
He gave stabbing a try, aiming for the neck. Dull glass blade sank into muscle and stuck, wrenched from his grasp as the bahju struggled in pain. He had known that wouldn't work. He punched it in the side, grappling with it. He'd have to get his arms around it's neck now and hold it until it stopped breathing, but he was at the wrong angle. He could hold it down, but if he maneuvered to get to it's neck, he had a feeling he might lose it to a burst of desperate energy. And his dagger too.
The struggle hurt, and the snow was cold and wet, but Ruelash didn't care. this was what he lived for. He held on.
"Get it in th' head!" he shouted, punching it in the side before trying to pin the struggling creature down. The better for her to swing at.

There was always that sickened feeling when the blunt force of the weapon met and splintered bone. That one brief second that made the girl want to recoil from what she had just done, that moment however was fleeting. Right now she was watching as the creature managed in its flailing to wrench the weapon from Ruelash's hands.

He was shouting at her, telling her to give it a blow to the head. A sound tactic though with I wriggling about she was afraid she may hit him instead. No time to worry about it though as she lifted the hammer and as if she was going to drive a stake into the ground brought the weapon down with a sickening crack against the bahju's skull.

There was no doubt the creature didn't survive that fatal blow to the head...and went limp in the boys arms. Breathing hard for adrenaline Keilana wiped her face flinching slightly fro the blood speckled look Ruelash's had gotten from the spray of blood from her blow.

"You okay?"
