She chased after him and laughed as she bounded behind him. She was in good spirits, and she felt like a cub again for a moment. This was just playful, good times.
She bounced as she ran, leaping off a rock before she had to screech to a halt at the tree. She looked up at it, nodding her head. She was not familiar with trees, so it looked like all the others she'd seen. Except maybe a little fatter.
Sturdy?
She left him to the judging and trusted his choice.
She did the opposite of what he told them, leaping up the tree and scrabbling her way quickly, using her claws because she had to but trying to use her muscles and haul herself up that way. It did not work and she ended up in the water fairly quickly, at least proving that she could swim.
"Nuts!"

Tendaji's heart was in his throat as he watched Bana fall, but she didn't appear to be injured and could swim just fine. He let out the breath he'd been holding, glad he'd taken the precaution of choosing this particular tree.
Grinning mischievously, he climbed half way up the tree before deliberately rolling off the side and splashing into the water besides Bana. "Next time go slower. Use your claws to hold on and your muscles to pull yourself up, but make sure you stay balanced. The branches at the top are a good place to rest, but you have to stick to the lower, big ones since the small ones at the top will break."

Bana let out a gasp as she was splashed and bobbed by the water, looking at him as he surfaced and frowning.
"I don't believe you really fell for a second, leopard boy."
She splashed away from him with faked indignation, climbing up the bank and shaking her fur off. His notes did not go unheeded, though, as she leaped at the tree and tried to haul herself up it again.
This time she dug her thick claws into the tree bark. It made a difference and she was able to go slowly. It was certainly not graceful, far from it, but she managed to shimmy herself up the trunk and reach the lowest of the branches.
Once she was sitting on it, gripping it as she tried to keep her balance, she let out a laugh. This was far more activity than she was used to, but it was fun and that made it worth it.
"This is awesome! I'm going to climb more often!"

Tendaji grinned and made no attempt to deny the accusation as he swam towards the shore.
He waited until Bana was well up the tree before following at a slightly faster, more graceful pace. He perched in a big branch beside her. "It's the closest I've ever come to flying," he said. "Look how far we can see! The sky is ours."

Bana smiled and looked out over the lands. They seemed smaller now, somehow, though she could see the expanse far more than she could from the ground itself. It made her feel like everything within her sight was somehow attainable, if they worked at it.
That was an interesting thought. She had inherited rather lazy genes from her grandfather, though it skipped her father's generation. The idea that she could accomplish what she put her mind to was something her father tried to instill in her, but it wasn't until she was on that branch and looking out over the plains that she realized it was really true.
She could almost fly, and had climbed a tree. She'd never even thought about this stuff before.
"Thank you for hanging out with me today," she said, looking at Tendaji as he settled beside her. She leaned over as best she could and licked his head, getting comfortable on the branch afterwards. She smiled at him, then closed her eyes.

Tendaji watched Bana as she looked out over the lands, glad that he could share this moment with her. He hoped she felt the same sense of freedom and serene joy that he did. Sure, she'd fallen the first time she'd tried to climb the tree and now they were both soaking wet, but the important thing was that she'd made it.
He blushed as she leaned over to lick his head. "You're welcome," he murmured, "and thank you as well." He smiled faintly as he watched her, glad that he had run into her. It had been a very good day.
