The nasty little jackal had found Tahir’s branch even without his help. Tahir shot Haki a wicked sneer while the jackal’s back was turned. But glaring and leering wasn’t going to get them out of this death trap. A trap Tahir himself had devised. He cast his eyes elsewhere, searching the stable land surrounding the pit. Clearly the jackal couldn’t grip any branch too big for his jaws, and they weren’t strong enough to not be pulled into the sand if Tahir tried to hang on. There had to be something else…
A vine! Those could be exceptionally strong, and this one was still attached to a tree just above their heads. It was hanging low enough that, perhaps, Tahir might be able to grab it. If he could, he could swing himself to shore. Or, at the very least, keep afloat with its help. He swam, slow and careful, as far as he might dare and stretched his neck out- but he couldn’t reach, and any more struggling sent him dipping under the muck once more. No, this wasn’t going to work.
He needed to be taller.
Or… or…
Tahir scowled and nudged the Haki with his nose,” There’s a vine above us. If you…” he stopped and snarled at himself,” If you climb up on my shoulders, could you reach it?”
