"It is all right," he soothed and then once her question was spoken her turned his attention to the leaf. It had fallen straight, a last catch in the wind turning it around until the edges crinkled upward. To most there was nothing to be seen, but leaves had patterns and symbols in them and around them, even in the way they fell. In many cases, it could take hours to divine the symbol (or more) but in this one, it was almost instant. A smile twitched at his mouth, a star was there.

He lifted his head, "You wish to meet this kin and the leaf says you shall. When or where I do not know but you shall." The crux of the problem with kin was how satisfied they were with the divination given. Often, the answer was not happy at all because they wanted absolute, they wanted facts and dates, they wanted everything. And that he could not give.

"Oh!" She squealed in delight. To know she might find them again! Oh that was just so exciting! Her body wiggled a bit as she nosed the leaf. "Yay! I wonder when! Maybe soon? I wonder what they'll be like." She didn't seem unhappy with the information, or lack of. "Thank you Oakheart!" She moved right to him and bumped her nose into his.

The nose bump was a surprise, a pleasant surprise and he felt his skin flush. She was by far the kindest (and easiest to please) kin he had divined for. Not that there had not been others who had taken his skill for what it was, an interpretation (though one that was more often right than not), but none had ever seemed quite so please.

"You are much welcome. I hope when you meet your mystery kin, they are to your liking," he returned. He truly hoped that they -- the mystery kin and her, perhaps even himself and her, if he was honest -- would be friends.

It was about that moment that Swirls decided to reappear, landing on her snout, making her stumble a bit. "Swirls!" The frog landed on the ground as she shook her head, blinking and giving a croak at the pair, sitting on the leaf that had once told a fortune. "Silly frog. You shouldn't do that!" She huffed and looked to her new friend. "I'm sorry, he does strange things sometimes. I don't understand him at all yet."

The buck danced backward, rear smashing into the tree's trunk. The owlcat who had gone quiet now sprung to life, spectral fur puffing out, as it's claws sunk into the bark. He looked up that the creature then down at the frog who now sat on the leaf he had used. "Perhaps they were jealous we were not paying them attention," he said eventually, then chuckled.

"However did you come to befriend a frog?" he asked, then.

"Oh!" She had to remember that one. "I think that I was walking with my sister one day, and he just seemed to show up! Wiggled out of a big mud puddle and hopped right over to me, then onto my back and didn't move until we got home. It was so weird, but here he is!" She smiled at the creature that nosed in a few other leaves to find snacks. "He's run me around before... the first time it was late and I saw that kin I asked about. I think it's been a season since I first saw them, so I guess he's kind of like...a guide or something?" She shrugged and sat down as he hopped into a bush, scaring a few other frogs out.

A guiding frog was certainly a new idea. "I had heard that pets choose their owners. It would appear true in our cases," he mused. It was for certain that he had not chosen the owlcat that resided here.

"I think you have a very intelligent friend in your frog," he added.

"Thank you!" She leaned down and rubbed her nose on said frog. "Say thank you Swirls!"

The frog moved slightly before his tongue shot out, taking a large millipede that was about to climb on the buck's hoof. He croaked once it was eaten, blinking up at the brown buck.

The buck chuckled at the frog's version of thank you and he bowed his head. "You're welcome, Swirls." He couldn't imagine how Figment of Sunset would say thank you and a brief glance upward, slowed that the owlcat was now stalking a songbird. Well that was better than it attacking any one of them.

The frog croaked again before hopping up onto the female's back, settling down near her spines and seeming to behave. "It seems that the motherfather wanted him to bring me to you." Firefly smiled. "I'm not very sure my way back home... maybe I could stay here a bit longer? Unless that's not ok."

We could wrap it up if you'd like. The only thing I can think of is them suddenly getting hungry XD

Oakheart nodded his head in agreement, "I believe you are right in that." There was a great mass of fallen leaves, as his owlcat pounced in an above branch. He sighed at its antics before turning his attention to the doe. "You may stay as long as you like. I could show you around my home, if you like."

"Maybe after a nap? Chasing after Swirls was hard work." She looked over her shoulder at the resting frog. "Would I be able to have a nap somewhere nearby that's safe?" She tilted her head curiously, almost not noticing that her voice was all that was needed to convey the question.

He gave a nod, "Of course, this way." He turned and led her further into the grove. In the center where more trees were concentrated together, was a shaded patch provided by green leaves that would not fall. Underneath, piles of fallen leaves provided a more comfortable spot to rest. It was safe and quiet. In his opinion it was really the only place to nap. "Will this do?" he asked.

"Oh yes it will!" She looked up and smiled. "Oh, and such a nice view! Thank you for this Oakheart!" She moved to settle in, seeming to leave room in case he wanted to lay with her at any point. "You're so kind! I'm very glad to have made a new friend today."

He smiled, "You are welcome and I, too, am glad to have met you. Sleep well." He gave a nod and then moved off to keep watch. He turned his head upward, only looking down when a leaf crashed until his leg. Bowing his head, it took him time to make out the symbol and he smiled to himself when he did. That symbol meant happiness and good friends. He could live with that.
