This last part of the story seemed to catch Remarque by surprise. Sailor Sparkles? …What the hell.

He knew the Negaverse was weird, but not that weird. Judging by paintbrush, he naturally thought of Benitoite, though for all he knew, there was a whole cluster of Negaversers carrying paintbrushes. "Sounds like they were quite a crowd back then. I suppose they've changed since the Dark Mirror Court has been around," particularly given that he'd seen nothing of the sort since his induction.

"The general hope is for the White Moon senshi to just align with us, but," he shrugged. "It is a bit difficult. A bit disappointing, too. Like trying to get someone to change political party. Or religion. Though—it seems so simple to me. It's not as drastic a change as people make it out to be. You still fight to keep everyone safe, still fight to make the world a better place. The only difference is that we need to do a little energy gathering on the side. We don't kill people though, not like the Negaverse. The civilians we borrow energy from? …They sleep, some. But we don't kill. There have been some…regrettable causalities, however. From some of the more zealous members of the Court. Though I hardly think they are a good representation of the Court as a whole."

For a while Athene looked down at the take-out cup as he listened to Remarque speak. He still had problems equating the taller senshi to those of his court who he’d witnessed attaching the Knights. Remarque hadn’t been amongst those doing the killing and their conversation had done nothing to dissuade the dark-haired senshi from his original opionion that the other was okay. However neither could he forget the events of that night.

When he spoke at last his quiet voice was matter-of-fact “Actually some of your members do kill” he added. “I was there at that meeting of ours that some of the members of your Court and the Negaverse gatecrashed.” It was hard to forget the sudden choking smoke, or the bright flash of light temporarily killing his vision. He worried his lower lip slightly “Granted your side wasn’t the only ones killing Knights” that Negaverse General that had caused him to need stitched and her paperclips-wielding Lieutenant sidekick had also targeted the Pages “But it doesn’t make those from your side who killed those Knights any better.”

He looked down at the take-out cup again before adding “What makes it worse is that before you crashed in, we’d all only just managed to come to an agreement that some of us should try approaching the Dark Mirror and Negaverse to see if we could find some sort of common ground, but I don’t see it going ahead anymore.”

He sighed “You know if it was a simple matter of everyone allying on the same side then there’s no reason why you couldn’t join the White Moon. I know at least one person has.” Granted the Knight in question had been part of the Negaverse, but there was no reason that it wouldn’t work for the Dark Mirror Court. Although Athene privately thought it unlikely that Remarque would want to go down that route – the taller blond hadn’t exactly expressed a positive view of the White Moon.

Ah, damn that whole ambush. To this day, Remarque regretted the Dark Mirror Court's involvement, even if they had grown in number due to Ares' efforts to throw more senshi through the mirrors. It was hard to convince the others that this was the right path when all the peace and life-loving senshi now argued that the Dark Mirror Court was evil due to all that death.

They had gained next to nothing from the ambush, and worst of all, what they had gained was just a bad reputation.

"I don't agree with what happened at the ambush," he concluded. "But I promised to follow Ares, though her orders weren't as clear-cut as I would have liked. Killing pages should not have been on the agenda, and if you need to know one thing about the Dark Mirror Court, let it be that we want unity and not war."

Not that they were having an issue with war, though he'd since directed all of his focus on winning over senshi as opposed to fighting them. If pages had to die, let it be discretely—not in what was essentially broad daylight.

"How does purifying work?" he prompted, not sure that Athene would be convinced that the Dark Mirror Court wasn't simply out for blood. "…And what does purifying have in store for, say, someone of my standard?" he asked. There wasn't any harm in knowing what the other side had to offer—to know what their argument for conversion was.

He doubted whatever the White Moon had to offer would really appeal to him, though there was no point in being uneducated.

For a moment a surprised look flickered across Athene’s face – purification wasn’t something that the dark-haired senshi had thought that Remarque would honestly be interested in given the way that the other had made his opinion on the white moon in general clear.

“To be truthful I don’t have many answers” Athene admitted at last. “From what I gather it’s not something that all senshi can do – it seems to be something really that only one of the Princesses could do.” He took a sip of his by now very lukewarm and bordering on cold drink “You’d still be you though.” He thought about it, decided against using the word brainwashing and settled on “You without being part of chaos.”

There was a bit of relief that Remarque could take from that—that only a select few had the ability to 'purify' the ranks of Chaos. It meant that there was less of a chance of them to lose members—hopefully. It helped that Athene knew little—despite doing little to sate his curiosity. From his perspective, this 'purification' seemed like a half-assed concept order provided that was this perfect, hypothetical solution where no one really knew what they were getting into.

"I see," he said rather thoughtfully. "It seems a bit odd, to me. Maybe it's just because Order always assumes that chaos is bad. Why is it called that? Chaos. Such a stereotypical connotation, don't you think? But I suppose you'd call any uprising chaotic, no matter how righteous it was."

And Remarque considered the Dark Mirror Court righteous. A minority, with a hell of a war to fight, but he had never doubted the purity of their cause.

Athene frowned slightly “That makes it sound like all of us come into this automatically thinking chaos bad, order good” he said at last. “Not all of us do” he certainly hadn’t.

“I know the White Moon isn’t perfect” he hesitated before admitting. “Unlike the Negaverse and your Court we’re not even really united.” It didn’t seem to be any secret how disorganised the senshi of the White Moon were. “But I’ve yet to see a White Moon senshi try and steal someone’s energy or worse their soul crystal.”

He hesitated for a few moments more before speaking again “And I guess uprisings are kind of chaotic,” he sighed quietly before adding “But then again people don’t really tend to revolt tidily.” Or least based on some of the stuff that he’d had to study in history classes at school they hadn’t seemed to.

"But do the people that don’t have the backbone for violence ever get anywhere? I would think, given the vast history of wars this world has, it would be common knowledge that the silent revolts never make much of an imprint on the facets of time."

He knew the White Moon was rather dysfunctional, and while they might not have gathered energy or taken a soul crystal, he couldn't help but point out, "Would you ever?" He was quiet for a short moment, and then continued, "If the White Moon found a way to harness extra energy from civilians, would you ever consider borrowing some of that to help win the war? If there was a way to leave them unharmed, perhaps just a little tired, and with that little boost, you were one step closer to ridding the world of this cosmic evil plaguing it?"

“Not liking violence isn’t the same as being weak though” Athene pointed out quietly. “And it doesn’t mean that people who don’t like violence won’t ever fight.”

He considered Remarque’s question in silence for a few moments, but when he spoke his quiet voice was decisive “No I wouldn’t, no more than I’d kill someone – not even if it meant ending all of this” although he gestured around the park, Athene was actually referring to the whole war thing. It’s like a line – and that’s one of my ones.”

For a moment the dark-haired senshi hesitated before admitting “Maybe it would be different if people actually volunteered to give up some their energy” after all he couldn’t exactly argue against if it was something someone had made a free choice about “But it’s not like the people who have energy taken from them are exactly given any say in it.”

"Perhaps you would change your mind if you viewed life from a different angle," Remarque said, shrugging lightly. "Though, perhaps we are desperate to get our point across. At the very least, we don't kill the humans we borrow energy from. There's no purpose for that. We want only the power to achieve our goals—not to hurt people. Of course, if you have any alternatives you'd like to suggest for us, I am all ears, Athene."

He was defensive of their actions, though he certainly didn't mind opening the door to conversation. If the senshi had some secret way of keeping things going for them, he wanted in. Sure, they might not need energy like how the Court did, but if they had some secret, underhanded method to keep all their energy? Well, now. If there was some sort of compromise or alternative, he'd bite.

If not, ******** it. The Dark Mirror Court way worked, even if the White Moon didn't quite agree with it.

“Perhaps” Athene agreed. “But even if it’s a lesser wrong, taking energy from the civilians without their consent doesn’t make it any more right.”

He stared at the take-out cup again “I’m probably not the person to talk about reasons, probably because I’m not in this because of any fancy or grand reason” he told Remarque as much during their first meeting. “I’m not in this because of some long dead queen” he sounded pretty sure about the words. “I’m just doing my best to try and protect people with what abilities I have, as part of the White Moon.”

Remarque, while not particularly pleased with Athene's words, could not be mad at him. He wasn't ready for the Dark Mirror Court, but that didn't mean that Remarque didn't want him all the same. He took interest in the fact that Athene did not want to fight, did not even seem to want to be interested in the war. He just wanted to keep people safe.

Keeping people safe could constitute for a lot of things—keep them safe from the Dark Mirror Court, from the Negaverse, from youma—from thieves and murderers. Athene did not seem to be ignorant or belligerent, like many of the White Moon. "I suppose," he said only, shrugging. "But never think that the Dark Mirror Court isn't doing what it can to protect people. We're just protecting them from a different evil, I suppose."

“Different methods” Athene said quietly. Not that the dark-haired senshi was saying that he agreed to those methods, but Remarque was a good speaker and he sounded passionate about what he was talking about – Athene’s words were a simple acknowledgement of that.

He took a slight sip of his hot chocolate and wrinkled his nose slightly – it had gone cold “Anyway I’ve best go back to the patrol beat” he said quietly at last. The cold chocolate suggested that he’d dallied longer than he’d intended. “Have a pleasant evening Remarque.” Turning to walk away, he paused and half turned back for a moment “And by the way I still think that you're okay.”

Maybe he shouldn't – after all the other was part of a Court which had members who had done horrible things. However despite the awful events that gone down at the senshi and knight meeting, Remarque was not his court and the dark-haired senshi's latest encounter with the blond had not done anything to shift the opinion he’d formed of the other senshi from his first encounter.

Remarque had been particularly surprised at Athene's parting words—not because he suspected the senshi to have some volatile grudge against him, but because it always surprised him when he met a rational senshi. One that didn't hate him simply because they were opposed.

Athene was one of the few White Moon Senshi that Remarque could tolerate—even if he wasn't begging for salvation within the court.

Clucking his tongue, Remarque turned away to make his own exit. He had a lot on his mind, though he couldn't be upset about it. It seemed like the senshi were always giving him something to think about—and tonight was no different.
