Wet. Sticky. Liquid seeped through his fingers and Rikki knew the feel. He didn't even have to see the consistency. Didn't have to see the almost-black red of it coating his hands and his arms. It pulsed out like a heartbeat and Rikki could feel every surge push out a new wave of blood.

He choked. Perhaps gagged. There was some reaction of disgust and horror, even if it was hard to define. He breathed shallowly out of his mouth and tried to focus enough to figure out what to do, even as he heard Danny begin to panic.

Heal. He could heal it.

Could he heal it? It would take a lot of energy.

Rikki felt the fear around him begin to flare as he started to channel it into his hands, like he'd learned. He focused it on the wound and ignore everything else, not even caring to find out who this person was, pouring their life force out over his hands in increasingly sluggish pulses. "Come on," he hissed.

Danny looked over at Rikki and shook her head. There was no way that was going to work. She could see the look in his eyes, determined to heal this stranger. It wouldn't work. She knew it wouldn't. Rikki may have flaunted his "healing prowess" with his ego, but he was no Nurse Cricket.

The person was dying, and they couldn't do anything about it. Somewhat sadly, she pulled Rikki off the person. He fought her, sure, but for once, being stronger than him actually came in handy. They didn't know this person, didn't owe them anything. There wasn't anything they could do- it wasn't worth the FEAR he was using.

She dragged him, not saying anything until they were a ways away, out of sight of the figure, out of mind. It was only then that Danny wrapped her arms around his shoulders and put her face in her own scarf, squeezing him close. "I- I-" She had nothing to say. They'd just let a person die.

Get up and walk away.

Rikki fought. He twisted and tried to get away. Danny was stronger though. She was always stronger. He shifted and turned, stumbling blindly as he tried to watch the figure, laying in an increasingly large pool of blood, even as it became too small, too far away for him to see.

He couldn't speak. His throat was closed up and he didn't know how to express what he felt. He felt more than saw the blood beginning to dry on his hands, staining them an unfamiliar brown. Like it had any right to stain him. Like it had any right to replace the color of his magic. He growled furiously and began to scrub his hands together, flaking off what he could until Danny wrapped her arms around him and made the movement impossible.

"I should have-" he choked into the skin of her neck, unable to finish the thought. He should have done something. What could he have done?

Danny just stood there with him for sometime, almost afraid she was going to knock him over with how heavily she was leaning on him, depending on him for support. She wanted to kiss him, assure him it was going to be okay, but she really couldn't. There was nothing about this situation that was okay- they'd just left a person to die! The motions wouldn't come to her. All she could do was squeeze her support tighter and tighter.

"They'll ... they'll dissapate," Danny fumbled, coming up with whatever came out of her head. The pressure around Rikki's neck increased as she squeezed even tighter, almost panicked with what she was saying. "They'll come back. Just like me, darklin', just like me." It probably wasn't good to mention her untimely death earlier at his hands, but then Danny wasn't really in the right mind to think about gently tiptoeing around his feelings.

They remained like that for a while, neither one particularly knowing what to do, where to go. Danny whispered something in his ear, but it was lost to the voice that was much louder behind her.

A small figure, one that almost reminded her of Xiu popped up and began babbling at them. Had that been there a moment ago? The motion caught Danny off guard and she immediately let go of Rikki, like a scareling being caught stealing gum.

Here again? They hadn't been here at all. It laughed and something about the motion unsettled Danny immensely. The figure pulled out "ingredients," which appeared to be living things, with eyes and wagging tails. Well that wasn't all that unusual- most foods in Halloween wriggled and writhed after all.

Danny looked at Rikki. This thing clearly needed help. "She said the batters getting cold ... think we should help her?" Danny just felt bad because something was getting cold, and cold was not okay. 8c

It was like a nightmare, the way things kept happening suddenly, without really being connected. Unless they really were connected, and he was just too dim to understand. Which was highly likely. Rikki strained for the whisper lost to the wind and stared blandly at the new figure.

It was creepy. Really, really creepy.

Plus, Danny jerked away from him, which sucked. He sent her a pout for that, because really? They were boilfriend and ghoulfriend, they could hug in public, dammit.

"I... guess?" He really didn't know what they should do, but the figure wasn't attacking them (yet, he added bitterly) so it kind of made sense to just play along and figure out what was going on. But if they wanted him to put things that look at him with those EYES into a batter to be made into anything, they were sorely mistaken. Obviously they hadn't seen his minipet hoard. Instead, he picked up a vial of something grey and sloshy, and examined it.

He froze a bit as the figure started to explain - last of what, exactly? But it was being poured quickly and he was lost in the motions. Before he could properly protest he was engulfed in the reaction of whatever he'd just been given.

And it.

Was.

Awesome.

He laughed heartily, actually holding his sides a bit. He felt freaking fantastic. "Oh man, Danny. Try this stuff. It's great!"

Danny just shrugged and gave him a lopsided smile in apology for pulling away.

Luckily he was already stalking to the table, looking a little uncertain. Danny stuck close behind, ready to burn some faces in if the figure even made a menacing move. This whole place had her on edge, especially when it concerned Rikki's safety. She sighed and looked at the table.

Rikki might have been above hurting the minipets, but Danny sure didn't care. The figure was definitely waiting for them to do something. The fluffy thing she didn't have the heart to hurt- that was like hurting Tony or Otso- it just wasn't cool. The fish was glaring at her though.

THAT FISH WAS TOTALLY GLARING AT HER.

She grumpily pointed at it, and the figure took it to her oven happily. While she was moving it into the oven, Rikki burst into laughter and shoved something at her. "Rikki I can't..." she explained. "I uh ... don't drink things, remember?" Had he forgotten? Well at least he was happier. His joy at least numbed her to the wrongdoing they'd just committed. Besides, she forgot things all the time. Rikki forgetting wasn't a big deal at all. "You keep it."

Pick up the strange fish-like creature that is staring at you with white eyes.

Rikki snorted out what he would later realize was very unattractive laughter. "Oh right. Fireee." He grinned at her and leaned on her shoulder, peering at the oven. "Did you just kill a thing?" He might have sounded upset about that, if it weren't for the fact that his smile was wide and crinkled his eyes and he just genuinely looked like he was in a good place. It was the best he'd felt all night.

There was a sensation, something he really didn't recognize at first. It took some serious concentration to figure out, but he realized with a scrunch of his nose that it was color. Color he hadn't seen since entering the fog. Whoa. It kind of hazed in and out of focus, so he just shrugged it off.

His face smoothed out and he hummed low in his throat. "Mmmmm. What should we do now?"

Danny wasn't sure what to do with semi-drunk Rikki except pat him on the back and nod. It was far better than see him depressed and mopey.

The fish came out of the oven in record time and Danny dejectedly responded, "Which one?" She'd killed two things now, so which was it? A sullen pout came across her face, as though Rikki was sucking the happy out of her.

As if on cue, the smell of the fish wafted in her direction, making her emit a very low whine. It smelled like Rosalie's cooking, and strangely Roch's hair gel and Rikki's pillows all at the same time. Home.

Rikki was asking her a question but the answer never came, as a massive door opened behind them. Danny gaped at it for a moment, but then turned back to the mysterious figure to ask about it. When she did though, the counter, the kitchen, and the figure had all but vanished into thin air. A frown crossed her face as she stared at the door. "Hey Rikki what-"

The boil was gone, as though he'd never been there in the first place. Danny looked around, frightened for real now. There was nothing here. No kitchen, no friends, no Rikki, no ...anything.

She took a deep breath and moved towards the door, not making any sudden motions. For all she knew, insanity could bust out of it. She tried looking behind it, but the door bumped right into her nose and prevented that from happening. She knocked, nothing.

A hesitation, and then a claw brushed against the doorknob. A hand on her shoulder, pulling her away. Was this a trap?

"Don't go. Please. There's still another way. You don't have to do this!"

Panic struck as she was faced by Rikki and Roch, both staring at her with horror, worry, and hysteria written across their faces. "Danny," Roch said sternly, almost angry with her.

She didn't know what to do. Don't go where? How did they know what was behind the door? At the same time, these were the closest people to her. What reason would they have to lie? "Okay, I won't, I won't!" she conceded, holding up her hands. She hadn't thought to question where they'd come friend. Danny knew her friends. These had to be her friends. Right?

Rikki just kind of hummed happily as Danny ignored him. She was busy, he got that. He turned, perhaps to fiddle with whatever little baubles he could find, but when he stopped he was alone. The noises behind him of Danny shuffling and doing other kitchen-y things was gone. The cheerful figure was gone. There were no more creatures waiting to be made into delicious snacks.

There was nothing but a door.

The happiness was leeching away. He could feel it, like a pulse, fading away the longer he stood there looking at the solid wood. With the loss returns some sadness, some confusion, some anxiety. Danny's gone. Roch and Yin are gone. And he's... lost? He's pretty sure he's lost. He turns to look for another way to go in the nothingness, but before he can move the door is there again. The same door, he's sure. Like it just... moved, so it wouldn't be ignored.

He frowns at it, brows furrowed, as he tries to figure out what he's meant to do. It's a door... so he reaches out a fist and raps his knuckles against the wood. The thuds resound loudly, though he was sure he hadn't used that much force. There's no answer though, just a thick silence.

Curiosity gets the better of him and he moves for the knob, but before his fingers can brush the brass he hears a voice and pauses.

That sounded awfully familiar.

Touching, hands, the reassuring warms of arms around his. He almost leans into them, because they're so familiar. Impossible, but familiar. There's a tense moment of stillness before he's being turned around to face endless white eyes, level with his.

He'd never really stopped to consider that he'd finally reached Tellervo's height. They were perfectly even with each other now. Though Rikki wasn't sure if that would have been the case if Tellervo had still been around to grow. Everything about the reaper is from a distant memory, from the precise buzz-cut of his inky black hair to the wide set of his shoulders and almost military stance. His eyes are soft with concern though, another memory relived.

"Don't go through that door, Rik. You can't go through that door, you have to go another way."

His brothers tanned hands cup his jaw, gently beseeching that he listens. The gesture was a lot more reassuring when he was younger, but now it makes his heart patter in panic. He now knows that touch means something bad's happening.

He considers giving in, telling his brother he won't go. Just to smooth those worry lines - lines he's much too young to have already - from his face. He would have done anything to accomplish that once. But then he remembers that he's alone here with a memory. Danny is missing. The others are missing.

His brother isn't the only one he loves anymore.

"Tell, I can't stay here. I have to go through if Danny's through there. I don't have a choice, 'Vo, and you can't change my mind on this."

The door disappeared, and Danny was left alone. There was nothing up here for her, so the only way to go ... was down.

Ominous. The stairs were definitely ominous. But he'd said it before and he'd live by it. If there was a chance this was the way back to Danny, he'd take it. So he went down.
