you do have a point about Briar but I always thought maybe he would come around and stop thinking of Sandry as a sister and more as I don't know a wife but I guess I was wrong. But Daja was completely uncalled for and I don't think there's any other reason, I really think these books could harm a little girls(or boys but i don't think many read Tamora Pierce) mind.

It depends on the kid, really, but I will say this. I ran across my first gay scene when I was maybe twelve or so (and very naive), and it didn't register as two guys about to make love, because I had never been exposed to anything of the sort before. I don't think it'll have any ill effect on kids, though it may bring up some questions. xp

I believe The Will of the Empress is put in the YA section in bookstores because of the allusions to sex, gay or otherwise. I think the Alanna series is in the YA section for the same reason. Up until this last book, the Emelan books have been more geared towards a slightly younger audience than the Tortall books. Frankly, I think it's a natural progression of the series. They got older. When you get older, you think about...new stuff, I guess - sex included. I think it makes the books more realistic in a way; but not so much you lose the fantasy feel.

I don't really see what the problem is it's not like reading about it is going to turn them gay or anything unless they already are.

I just want to clear this up and stuff. That while in the Emelan world I find stuff like lesbians and gays gross, its mostly b/c I don't know a part of me still fews TP's books as some what for younger kids or that younger kids read them and it scares me a little. B/c while I may not be naive I know that some kids are. I just wanted to say while I'm making a deal of all this I don't know have a problem w/ gays/lesbians trust me I'm on Color Guard gay guys are part of the territory. And they are in fact very interesting to talk to.

Then what is the problem with younger kids reading about it? Unless of course, you don't think any romance should be implied in kids' books. It's not like Pierce goes out of her way to graphically describe sex. A kiss is nothing compared to the blatant way Briar is a man slut. heart Anyway, I really don't see the harm or issue with acknowledging the existence of homosexuality. It's like any heterosexual relationship, except the two people involved happen to be of the same sex.

Its just that I know as a little kid I would have been scared to death to think of two girls kissing each other and stuff. But Idon't know maybe most kids wouldn't get the complete gist of it.

"The book was amazing, the part about Lark and Rosethorn could have been forseen, the thought had hinted at my mind many a time while i was reading the other books. The part about Daja could also be predicted, since her only experinces with boys were her family, briar, boys she kissed and it didnt feel right, along with Ben who betrayed her trust and hurt her with deep emotional scars. Truly The Will of the Empress is more themed twords...hmmm how should i say this...more mature teens and young adults then the younger crouds. But the book itself was a masterpeice. The experices past what happened in the first part of when the other three went away was exciting, and it brought you to wonder about what happened untill she comes out with books to describe it. Sandry's usual distaste to how most people see her is something that often adds flavor to the books about the four. A powerfull enemy stood against the four, seeking to capture them and keep them as her pets. Yet all she managed to do was bring them togeather once again. This was also very very interesting. Aswell as teaching a crazy 50 year old that hes only part crazy, and the other part is magic, was a difficult, yet important and intriging event. The final decision, brought upon by her concience and her siblings, for sandry to give up her lands to Ambros, was also a very big crossroad in her life, and was one of the most important decisions to make, and one of her most important obsticles to overcome."

I like Will of the Empress it was a good book the best out of all the Emelan books. The only things I didn't like was Daja being lesbian and Briar being like a total somewhat player. It just didn't seem right oh yeah and the whole Lark and Rosethorn thing ewww.../ But beside those it was really good.

I thought the whole Lark and Rosethorn thing was hinted at in the first book.
And as for Daja being a lesbian, get over it. I thought it was kinda sweet.
Maybe your life is just to innocent. Mine sure isn't.

Trust me my life ain't innocent. Maybe it was when I first read the emelan series, I don't really know b/c that was like in 7th grade so it was like 3 years ago. So I never saw gay/lesbian stuff coming, I didn't expect it from Tamora Pierce I should say. And now after it being more than 6 months from my reading the book I thinking that you know what its not that big of a deal I mean I deal with a gay guy almost everyday of the year so its not that bad. It just shocked me, maybe that was it.

I forgive you then. My best friend is a lesbian so I can get a bit offended at times.
