"Well, knights are a strange occurrence, unique to this universe, I believe," Zirconia explained, hoping the 'mutated' bit would be taken less like an insult. "You do not function like a proper senshi, or cavalier, for that matter! You just sort of happen. It's really very strange. I have an entire box of files I've put together on the subject." Singular. Box. That might've been her first understatement of the night. Zirconia had been taking notes on various knightly entities since Valhalla's awakening.
"I suppose. They may be a tad irrelevant, as I've only been in your universe for two years," She said, trying to feign a bit of humbleness.
"My coat is exquisite. And yes, you may," She purred, coming down from the perceived insult from moments before. Very few people asked before touching. So polite!

Zirconia would apparently never cease to impress or confuse Aventine, who looked at her quite oddly before shrugging and leaning over, raking her finger's lightly through the cat's fur. "Oh, yes. Very exquisite," she agreed, nearly purring herself. "You must have been really busy to have collected a whole box of notes." She didn't bother asking how a cat could write; on that, she'd take Zirconia's word. "Now, I've heard of senshi, but never Cavalier, so I don't know at all what they are. —And I've got to ask, if you're not from this universe…where are you from?"
She continued to gently brush Zirconia's fur, very much pleased with the texture against her fingertips, though in truth she was more curious now than ever. Whereas she felt she might have been getting the briefest grip on things (yeah, right) she had now been thrown back to the starting point with even more questions.

"Well, it may be more than one box," Zirconia said with a wispy chuckle that pretty much said she wasn't going to get into it. When you were stranded in the wrong universe, universal shifts were more interesting than they probably should be.
"In fact, I have a whole database," She bragged, and twinged in annoyance when Zia mentally reminded her that she really sucked at completely filling out an entire excel bar.
"I'm from the Black Moon," She said haughtily. "Last of my kind in this universe, unless you count corrupted abominations."

"Oh," Aventine murmured, sounding a bit sympathetic. It's not like anything was really easy to understand, not when Zirconia knew what she was talking about and Aventine was struggling to keep up. All she knew was that the cat had been up to a lot of hard work and clearly had a lot to show for it.
"I've never heard about the Black Moon," she said, though suspected that Zirconia already knew this. "Must be lonely. Which corrupted abominations are you talking about? —And can't you find some way to get home? I mean, if you got here and all…isn't there a way back?"

"It's a parallel universe to this one," Zirconia said, her tail swishing back and forth as she pondered how to describe it concisely. "Near as I can tell, a very large war here was merely political tension and a few skirmishes there, and the homeworlds never died. No reincarnation into teens on Earth necessary."
She shook her head at the suggestion of getting back. "We arrived through a portal created by our Moon Queen. However," Zirconia needed to mask the catch in her throat by pretending to clear it. "She died in order to end the coma epidemic a few years back."
She nudged her head into the petting to distract herself. "The 'Dark Mirror' court. Their queen is my senshi. Er... former senshi. There is nothing left of my court at this point."

While Aventine was not particularly educated in the history of this universe, the idea that there was a parallel universe that deviated so much from their own was fascinating—as was the additional information on someone she'd already met as an enemy. She knew little of the coma epidemic, sans what she had read of it. It was far in the back of her mind, though she found she sympathized with Zirconia for her loss.
It was a strange idea, that someone of such power—a moon queen?—could die? …At least she'd done such for a valiant cause.
Aventine pulled Zirconia closer, still pleasantly stroking the cat's fur. "That sounds awful. I've met some of them—the Dark Mirror Court? One girl, Aurora, she didn't seem so bad. But then there was Toutatis and she was a major brat. What happened to your senshi? To change her—to turn her…like that?"
Aventine figured it couldn't be particularly easy to talk about, but she was curious—and wanted to know anything she could about this enemy she was expected to face.

Zirconia's little face made something of a frown, if humans could perceive cat frowns, and she glanced away. She didn't like talking about that part. At all.
To make things worse, the other personality in the back of her brain was urging her to get to her project and ask questions, which made Zirconia feel her other half had already trivialized the entire ordeal. The thought was disturbing, depressing, and as a result, the cat retreated. Not physically, but mentally.
Suddenly Zia was there, a college aged student by all appearances in a sweater instead of four paws and a fur coat, sitting cross legged under Aventine's hand.
"Zirc doesn't want to talk any more," She said, and produced a smartphone from her pocket. "Can I take your picture?" Zia also didn't want to talk, about Ares or the fact she had gone from space cat to civilian with no explanation, but she did want to add the newbie to her knight-pokedex.

Aventine probably could have allowed someone to take her picture—had she not just been a cat. It was with a somewhat startled yelp that Aventine retracted her hand from atop the girl's head. It was one thing to pet a cat—another thing to pet some random human.
The girl in front of her acted like it was no big deal, but Aventine was very near to mortified with the situation. "—What?" she said, stalling for time to try and let her mind fully process the situation.
It just wasn't happening.
"Picture? But I—" Shaking her head, Aventine really wished that would clear her confusion. "—I guess. What just happened? How did you—how did you do that?"
The concept of cats was suddenly a much stranger one to the Page, and while she wished Zirconia had been able to stick around and answer her, a part of her didn't wonder why the cat wanted to leave. She probably shouldn't have pressed her questions so hard given how personal it must have been, but Aventine was confused and just wanted answers—now more so than ever.

"Oh," Zia said with a slight 'tch' at the poor knight's freak out. "Parallel souls need a body from this world to house their starseeds. I'm the lucky duck who gets to live with a roommate in my brain. Cats don't usually change into straight up people, don't worry, I'm pretty weird. Also," she held up the phone and the shutter sound went off and she became focused on trying to crop it into her little spreadsheet.
"I'm not going to use it for nefarious purposes, don't worry," She said, turning to show where it had gone, which was a sort of profile format crammed into a mobile spreadsheet. "It's like a pokedex, I guess."
She took another glance at Aventine's photo and cringed sheepishly. "Um, would you rather I take a more flattering one?" Surprise photo shoos didn't usually yield pretty results.

Aventine was still staring at Zia when she presented the information—and the picture—and then responded with a brief, "Oh."
And this girl spoke like it was the simplest thing in the world. All things considered, Aventine realized she could have had it so much worse. And she thought just being a page was confusing? …Yeah, at least no one else was trying to live in her brain.
"Yeah, no—that's fine, just let me—" Aventine had absolutely no idea what a pokedex was, but she hadn't yet forgotten that Zirconia mentioned collecting her notes. If she was going to be in it, might as well look good, too. She fixed her hair up, shifted positions, and then prompted, "Better?"

Zia nodded a little with a smile and snapped a better photo, focusing down on her phone so cropping, resizing, and adding it into her formatting. "Sorry, it's just a pain to get s**t done when she wants to prattle on about 'Ares~ oh how sad'. And then she just gets all emo and says take the wheel and I'm like, 'jeez, b***h.' Wasn't my idea to go patrolling in the middle of the night and get stuck in trees and then she wouldn't just let me climb down because blah blah pride blah humiliation blah."
She paused after the small rant and then looked up from her phone and extended a hand as if to shake. "I'm Zee, by the way. Zirc's body host."

Aventine blinked when Zee was talking about Zirconia's plight, and while it seemed like a tragic situation, she supposed it made sense for the girl to get discouraged with it—especially if she had to share a body.
Which was something she could not even begin to wrap her mind around.
"Well, uhm. All right. Nice to meet you. Aventine," she introduced somewhat uncertainly. "In case you didn't get that before. Sorry for all this ruining your evening. If you could, though—if it's not too much trouble—let Zirconia know that I apologize for upsetting her and that I appreciated chatting with her? It was a pleasure to meet her—and you, too."

"Am I freaking you out?" Zia laughed when the girl sounded like she was ready to bolt. She didn't understand why everyone looked at her like she was talking about killing herself. Well, maybe the subject matter was disturbing, but her tone was very casual! Like she was criticizing a bad movie.
"She can hear, it's cool," She waved off the apology.
"But anyway, if you ever need a consult on weird universe bullshit you can totally ask. I'm kind of an expert at this point." At least she didn't claim to be all knowing.

"Freaking me out?" she inquired hastily—laughed, and then shook her head. "Oh—no, not at all. It's just. I mean, I'm sure you can understand," she insisted. "Just—taking it all in. Still new," she reminded, hoping that was a good enough excuse that she wasn't coming across as rude.
"But—yes, all right. Glad she can hear," the woman said again, shifting positions so that she could stand up. "—I might take you up on that offer. The weird universe bullshit. I've been particularly enlightened this evening, but there's just so much to absorb. At this rate, I'm not sure I'll be able to get it on my own, so I want to absolutely thank you for that."

"Oh, it's no problem. I'm kind of supposed to be giving advice, I guess," Zia said, standing up and brushing herself. "Guardian cat and all. Kind of. I don't know. I'll let you get back to patrolling. Thanks for the photo!" She said, ending up calling out that last bit as she already started walking away.
