Bereck regarded the young rider with the same steady disapproval he would aim at an apprentice have a fit of temper. "Resorting to ad hominems Kindra?" he replied sternly. "Who said anything about Malvren? Perhaps you would have been welcomed, perhaps not, but that has nothing at all to do with what I was speaking about. If you want to begin this however then perhaps you should think about how well your Weyr would have welcomed either of ours."
He didn't believe that a lot of people had agreed with her before, but she was angry so he wasn't surprised she said it. It was amusing to think that people all over Benden would have bent over backwards to agree with some teen girl though; it made the stupid Weyr all the more stupid. He didn't say any of that though, because launching into nastiness would only undermine his position.
"I'm not denying that Trine deserves attention, and gratitude," he added, "but that doesn't stop you thinking as you work."

Kindra had enough. She heard what Bereck had said, didn't understand one term but she didn't care "Have a good day Masterhealer Bereck" she snapped and turned to walk away, she would only lose her temper and she would rather not on a bedbound man old enough to be her grandfather. "Don't forget to pass that bowl over when you are done, next time i'll get the drudges to bring the meat for your little pets" she added, jostling her own flit as she moved.

Bereck watched the girl turn to go with his lips pursed into a flat line; once again somebody in power who he found wholly unworthy of it. She hadn't even bothered to reply to his accusations, but he supposed that was hardly a shock.
Sighing heavily and shaking his head Bereck reached over as far as he could, just managing to catch hold of the bowl and bring it over to his lap to begin feeding his firelizards.
Gold riders.
Couldn't live with them, couldn't ship them to Timor.
