loonaboots long story short, my school's making us think about college from the start of highschool, and we have a class to prepare us for college and everything.
and we looked at scholarships?
some of them were literally saying you had to have a certain skin color to apply and possibly get a scholarship (sure, i knew this was a thing, but it really didn't hit me until that moment).
seriously, two of them said you had to be black or something similar.
and i just
WELL
SORRY FOR BEING WHITE
emotion_donotwant
(i'm not saying that if you're not white it's suddenly really terrible and you should feel bad- i'm just really annoyed about this, partly because i would have been able to get two of them if i tried hard enough but nope i'm white so i can't get them.)
I had a similar problem except for me it was because I hadn't lived in the area for a certain amount of time. I had just moved to a different state for my senior year and all the damn scholarships said I had to have lived there for a certain amount of years. It was pretty much BS. Scholarships have really gotten bad in the past few years....

I completely understand this and feel sympathetic to it. Because they did the same thing to me.
I am not a STELLAR sportsperson,an academic who did awesome on SATs going in to some unknown major or anything within what is considered 'poverty' i.e ethnicity/race/owning of material things. But just because my parents were smart and saved to own two homes, they were all LOL TOO BAD. Even though my mother is now the sole provider of two households. gonk And now I am considered 'independent' from my parental units.
I'd like some help in paying for books and school things :I

yikes, that's horrible. D: seriously i don't think they even consider other factors for this stuff, it's just how much money, your race (which just reminds me of white savior crap), etc. etc. and it's pretty sickening imho.

They'd rather know much much they can weedle out of them. Which is sickening because there are some who actually need the help and want to try and have as less of a loan as possible.
