I don't think basing is an issue, just so long as it is clear which model belongs to what squad or formation. If I recall correctly the German weapon sprues come with extra ammunition boxes and cleaning kits, I'd suggest giving those to the MG teams, or arming them with pistols, seeing as the loader models are according to game rules, "unarmed" for gaming purposes. (A bit rubbish if you ask me..)

Speaking of rubbish, hey Mel, how are the Yanks coming along? wink

The only reason I'm concerned is the rulebook talks about how the only difference between German LMGs and MMGs is the steadying presence of a tripod.

I think this is mostly done to differentiate between the MG's used in squads and as support weapons, as the Germans were one of the few armies that used the same multi-purpose weapon for just about everything, from squads to tanks to aircraft.

I don't think it will be too much of a bother though, using the plastics provided, just so long as you clearly point out what model belongs to which squad or support team before the game starts.

edit.

Great example: Mel's platoon has two MG teams (the cheeky drokker!), one on a large base, the other made up of three separate models on the move.

I may have to put in a small order with the Labyrinth when the bills are paid, let's just say that Rangers lead the way and may need a jeep and mortar to bolster their numbers.

Also, are you still going to use those American plastics, if not.. ninja

They're all NOS, you can have them, seems like a fair trade after you sent us that halftrack, rulebook and oh my, a few sprues of Germans. wink

Yes please, I especially need more SMG's. A lot of them in fact. I never quite got why these weapon sprues come with so many Springfield rifles and not enough Garands and Thompsons!

What I'm looking at is the following:

Veteran 2nd lieutenant with two veterans, all with SMG (91 pts)
Rangers (6) with four SMG's and two BAR's (88 pts)
Rangers (6) with four SMG's and two BAR's (88 pts)
Veteran .30 cal team (65 pts)
Veteran 60mm mortar (46 points)

_______ +

402 pts

With the following additions to bump the army up to 500-ish points, which is the maximum for me right now.

Veteran Jeep with .30 cal (40 pts)
Veteran sniper team / Veteran .30 cal team (65 pts)

_______ +

507 pts.

Not sure on whether to go with a sniper team or another .30 cal team, though I might wait and see what the Armies of the United States source book has on offer for me, maybe a good themed army list for Rangers or a certain Western Front setting.

A second .30 cal team it is. While snipers are gnarly, I'd rather pump more suppressive fire into the enemy instead.

Good man, give those bloody rotters a few bursts of lead.

Also, expect reinforcements soon: Four sprues of US infantry and two weapon sprues. emotion_yatta

I've finished assembling everything except my MMG team. I'm wondering if I should have put another LMG in my rifle squad, but with only 6 minis, it seemed like overkill.

Mail man delivered me some extra sprues of US infantry and their weapons, ah yes. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up my jeep and mortar team tomorrow so I can finish my 500 pts of Army Rangers.

With them out of the way I can focus on getting 500 pts of Germans done.

I'd comment about how nasty ze Germans are but I play Brits, who get a free artillery observer and re-rolls on their bombardments. emotion_dowant

Not as great as the American and German special rules, but they will do.

I dunno, that sounds pretty nasty all by itself. Mortars are normally pretty darn inaccurate.

Pardon, it isn't a re-roll. redface Rather, I roll 2D6 when a mission has Prepatory Bombardment, picking the best result. We played it as a re-roll, a wee bit wrong. gonk

At least I got the free artillery observer bit right. sweatdrop

I'd keep an eye out for the Armies of Great Britain book when it arrives, because unlike the German source book, the US Army book has some radical departures from the army lists and unit entries found in the core rules. Along side the two rules the US already has (Air Superiority and Fire & Manoeuvre), they also gain Modern Communications (Reserves do not suffer from a -1 on their morale rolls) and certain tanks gain the Gyro-Stabilisers rule (Tanks crewed by veterans that fire their main gun on the move do not suffer a -1 to their to hit rolls!)

There's also an entry for the shotgun at long last, for USMC squads fighting in the Pacific: 18", 1 shot, no pen, assault weapon, 3pts per model.

On the downside, a lot of the themed army lists require you to run inexperienced infantry squads and real veteran squad options are missing this time round, granted there are paratroopers and Rangers, but their squads are not particularly powerful or super unlike their German counterparts. SMG's are limited to 2-3 men per squad and the BAR is a 0-1 choice for these elite units sadly. Plus paying 14 pts per Ranger just so they have the ability to make a full advance before the game begins is bollocks. I'd rather have access to unlimited SMG's and 0-2 BAR's instead.

Okay, the mid-late war Marine Corps squads are just plain nasty, but with no Japanese army book out for some time.. Sad.

Oh yeah, American sniper teams come with a sniper rifle and pistols, with the option to upgrade the pistols to SMG's!

Plenty of vehicles on display, even more than the German book I think, the Sherman and its variants alone take up a fair few pages. Only thing I'm missing is access to armoured jeeps.

Solid book, bit bland with the army lists IMHO, but still a good addition. Gah, now to rewrite that Rangers list. I may just scrap it altogether and go for a regular infantry list instead.
