~~And Thus, the Curtain Rises~~

The entire calamity begins in a small provincial town called Palidor. Surrounded by a moderately dense forest to the East, and vast plains of wilderness on all other sides, it is a peaceful enough town, if a little small even by this age's standards. Secretly, and unbeknownst to anyone, this town is now playing house to the newly returned Sunhunters, whether they've been residents for a few weeks already, or are just now arriving, they've been gathered here, along with five other souls who's destinies are intertwined with the Sunhunters'.

We begin on a bright, sunny morning, during which a pair of veteran adventurers are searching for people to aid them on a treacherous expedition to a nearby ruin. Most people in this town are not the adventuring type, but this pair is tenacious, and will go so far as to ask the entire town if they need to.

Quintus Von Drehle saw the outskirts of a town as he reached the top of a high hill. He'd be there before the sun hit the horizon. He adjusted his winged shield on his back and pulled his black cloak tighter to his body. He took a deep breath, taking in the crisp morning air. Quintus expertly twirled his spear in his left hand and landed it, point down, back on the ground. He used his precious weapon as a talking stick and continued on the downhill to town.

As planned, she sun just peaked over the land line in the distance as Quintus reached the first house on the outskirts. People were beginning to stir and get to work in the small fields that lay before the wilderness lines. He reached a baker as he was setting up his wares in a market stall. The fresh smell truly enticed the paragon very much. He dug out a few odd gems and coins he had and traded the baker a large blue sapphire for three loaves of bread.

"Much obliged, friend," Quintus said to the baker. The baker replied with a smile and a head nod.

The clouds parted from the night and the clear sunny sky was very welcoming. Quintus had travelled all night and the warmth was very pleasant. He tucked two of the wrapped breads in his satchel and sat on a bench near the town well. He broke the bread and took a bite. The hearty flavor of the warm bread tingled across his tastebuds and he couldn't help but smile. He had been living off roots and berries for days, and being once again in posession of real food was somewhat of a luxury. People began to rapidly bustle about. Even for a small town, Palidor seemed to have quite a lot of people.

((OOC: Oh dear... I guess I forgot that one... Just a request then... PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't stretch the page, I don't mind pics, but huge ones like ^ Are bad... I also apparently didn't make it clear that the Sunhunters haven't been on the earth for more than about 2 months... My bad there. Doesn't matter much, all but the last bit of your post is still sensible in that span Ice. Sorry again.))

The morning rays shown through the window of the room where two veteran adventuring partners, Sylvis and Emeril had spent the night. Today was the day for them, and once the warm light hit their faces, their eyes shot open. A long night of planning and gathering supplies had left them weary, but this was no new feeling for either man.

Both getting out of bed and preparing for the day ahead, the two squared off once or twice over small amenities like who would bathe first, always laughing after a short pause once the winner had been decided. It reminded them of old times, back during their youth when these quarrels would actually break out into all out battles.

Finally, after a twenty minutes of their daily routine before big expeditions, the two were ready and left the inn, paying their due and heading about town, splitting up to search for other lively spirits to accompany them on what would surely be a dangerous delve into yet another ruin.

The pair had decided the night before that Sylvis would scower the southern half of town. A slightly taller gentleman who didn't seem all that much the adventuring type. More attuned to his hygiene than seemed normal, and lacking of very much muscle. About the only thing that gave his profession away was a deep, scarred claw mark over his left eye, rendering it useless. A wound he'd received several years back and refused to have treated with magic.

Emeril would search through the Northern region of Palidor; All in all somewhat the opposite of Sylvis, Emeril was muscular, and only slightly shorter than his companion, and in many ways seemed more in tune with his primal self. For his age, Emeril was in remarkable health, despite his slight neglect of proper grooming.

User Image Lucian entered the town from the southern gate carrying a small bag over his left shoulder. He had taken a local woman's job to go out and gather medicinal herbs from the nearby forest. It wasn't that hard, at least not for him. This town had a shortage of trained fighters, and with the nearby areas being a hotbed for monsters people here had trouble with even simple jobs such as this. It didn't pay very well but he felt good being able to help out even in the least. Walking through the small street he made his way back to the woman's shop for his payment.

User ImageCaius let out a yawn as he looked into the clear sky. This was his favorite kind of weather, the kind he often liked to create around him but today seemed to be his lucky day since it was already sunny without his interference. He was laying down on a stone bench close in a park that as close to the center of the town. He had been here for just two days but hadn't done really anything in that time. He knew his funds would dry up soon enough so he did have to try and find some sort of work to make money. He sighed as he sat back upright, "Guess I should start asking around town." He stood up and began walking around trying to find anything well paying.

The pair had barely been apart for a few moments when Sylvis spotted a young man, he didn't seem the type to join them, but Sylvis didn't look the type either, and it didn't hurt to ask. Approaching the young man, Sylvis bowed respectfully and spoke clearly. "Greetings young man, I haven't seen you in town before, perhaps you'd like to accompany myself and a friend of mine on an adventure through a nearby ruin?" The scholarly looking gentleman said to Caius.

Elswehere Emeril raced about the streets asking nearly everyone he found, when he came upon a young man clad in a black cloak carrying a spear. The man seemed strong enough, so the veteran decided to speak with him. Shouting to the man while he rushed toward him at top speed, his voice boomed through the nearby streets and houses, waking any who weren't already up. "You there, with the spear! Hello!" Stopping close to the man, he lowered his voice and continued. "You should come adventuring with me."

Quintus eyed the man who had so rapidly and eagerly appraoched him. The paragon raised an eyebrow in question as he bit down on another piece of bread.

"Adventuring, you say? With you? I don't even know you." Quintus stood and wrapped the other half of his loaf. He stood significantly taller than the person in front of him. Quintus knew he was stong, confident, courageous, but not stupid. "I adventure with none whom I do not know. I know not your name, where you hail from, what your motives are, and whether or not there's anything in it for me. Why should I risk my life and my skill on something that would not benefit me?"

Quintus began to walk further into town, away from the man. He stopped a few paces away and turned back. "And you know, you didn't even ask for my name. All you saw of me was a spear and you assumed that I know how to use it. I do, but that's not the point. For your future, when you ask someone to adventure, you might try a vastly different approach." Quintus once again turned around and continued walking further into town.
PostPosted: Fri Nov 09, 2012 12:40 pm

Simply grinning excitedly as Quintus spoke, Emeril coulldn't help but laugh as the young man passed him. Turning around. he replied. A"I didn't need to know if you knew to use your weapon, only a fool would carry a blade without knowing how to defend himself, it's just asking for trouble!" His voice rang with confidence. As he continued to speak, he followed the young man he'd addressed. "You're right though, I didn't introduce myself, and I didn't ask your name; I'm Emeril Avorin, veteran adventurer and traveler. As for what is in the trip for you? Battle my young friend, and a fair cut of whatever treasure and knowledge we happen upon. My motives are simple, a thrilling tale to recount to the children I eventually hope to father, and the excitement of a good fight with dangerous creatures, but my homeland is my business and mine alone. Even my partner doesn't know my home, the fact that he never asked is beside the point. ... What is your name?" He'd answered most of the man's questions, and couldn't help but smile as he eyed the boy. Taking a slightly quicker pace, he stepped in front of the boy, and chuckled a little. "You remind me very much of my partner. If you don't want to join me, I'd suggest you head to the southern end of town and seek out a man named Sylvis, I htink you'd like him.

The man called Emeril jogged in front to block Quintus' path. Quintus respectfully stopped and listened contently as the man explained everything that he had so pointed out. It was the same old explanation that Quintus had heard for the last two weeks whenver he passed someone asking about "adventure." Adventure equals treasure, knowledge, battle, and excitement. Blah, blah, blah. Still, Quintus ached for a good battle. So much skill contained in so young a man. Quintus shook his head at the man in a you've-got-to-be-kidding-me-type of manner.

Did this man truly think he could just pluck persons off the road to form an adventuring party? The entire situation was completely twisted, as there were so many loopholes. Fortunately, for Quintus, in the event that anything were to turn out wrong, it was this Emeril and his party of scheming bandits that would need to worry. In one swift flick of his wrist, Quintus could skewer three men at once, even if they were clad in full-plated armor. The paragon gave a half-smile smirk.

"If you seek so much adventure, you may not live long enough to even sire any offspring. But I see you're relentless. Very well. I am Quintus, and you need not know more unless vitally necessary. If you wish to have me on your 'trip,' I would require all knowledge about everything this endeavor contains. Where is it at? Warm climate, or chill tundra? Civilian heavy, or rural? I wish to know everything before I agree to anything."

User Image Caius looked at the stranger who had just approached him about a job. Ruins, he thought to himself that sounded like it could be hard work, he needed money for sure but he didn't like hard work. "Well, I suppose it depends on how much the pay is," he asked. If it paid enough he could be willing to look past the required effort. "And could I get a little more detailed information on the nature of the work," he continued figuring he should get more information before just judging how hard it would be. He already had a good idea though, more likely than not it would be heavily monster infested. That was what he was worried about, he was skilled in magic and felt confident but the effort to deal with them was what got him down.

((Update: New background information has been posted in the OOC thread! Suggesting all Sunhunter players read it as it pertains to your character's background. (yes, I will be posting these each time there's new information important to the story)))

Emeril smiled brightly, this Quintus' request wasn't uncommon, in fact it was a sign of a truly skilled adventurer, and his hopes about this man were confirmed entirely with that one question. Speaking swiftly, os as not to waste too much of the man's time, and so he himself could continue scouring the city ty, the middle-aged male recounted the plan. "You may have heard of the place we're going to, local lore depicts it to be haunted by a Lich. Now, Sylvis dismisses this as 'preposterous', but I'm still excited to find out first-hand. We're traveling to an old world stronghold, built and occupied during the Golden War. I believe Sylvis said it's name was... Fortress Amidor. Anyway, it's hidden not too far away from this town off in the forest to the East. Anyway, the real fun is that it's supposed to be home to several magical beasts and traps. So we're trying to get a group of at least eight people along with ourselves together to delve into the place."

That was the full story, and now that he'd given Quintus the information he'd requested, he turned to make his way off through the rest of the town, turning his head back to face the man bto add the meeting place. "if you're interested, gather what supplies you want to bring, and meet Sylvis and I at the Eastern gate, if we're not there when you get there, just wait for us. Oh, and don't plan for more than two to three days outside the town, it's not that far to this fortress." With that, the man walked off, waving a gloved hand to his new acquaintance.

((OOC: Ice, PLEASE stop posting such a big pic, I realize what it's for, but stretching the page makes it a hassle to read posts... >.<; ))

User Image Lucian exited the small house of his previous client strapping his money pouch to his belt. He was glad to have finished his job seeing as he now had enough to restock on supplies before setting off to the next town. Than again he knew if he really needed money he still had a couple things from his home he had kept for sentimental reasons, that could sell very well. Well it had been about six years since he had left so it couldn't really be called his home any more, he was dead at least that's what everyone believes. No point dwelling on the past, he thought to himself as he pushed the thoughts aside and turned to make his way to the general store so he could resupply.

((Oops... didn't notice verute's first post. Sorry man. Must've done it while I was typing.))

Sylvis nodded to the boy, and then suddenly seemed as though he forgot something, in fact he had. His introduction. "Ah, pardon me, I seem to have forgotten to introduce myself. my name is Sylvis Blassfern. the plan is to explore the nearby Old World fortress, Amidor. It's likely filled with traps, and creatures, both magical and non-magical which we'll be dealing with, but these obstacles are little to worry about. My companion and I are trying to gather a group of eight other travelers to assist us, if you'd be so kind as to join our group, you will be awarded an equal portion of whatever we may come across inside." His voice was calm, and brimming with intelligence and confidence.

Bowing politely to the young gentleman before him, Sylvis finished speaking. "My partner and I will be meeting at the Eastern gate to depart, along with anybody willing to accompany us, if you decide to join us, gather what supplies you'd like. Plan for a two to three day trip, then wait for us there. No doubt you'll be ready before either of us are." With that, Sylvis walked off, toward the marketplace, it was nearly time for business to begin bustling, and around there, it was very easy to pick out the adventurers from the commonwealth.

She needed no makeup, but added a touch of blush to her high cheekbones and a pale peach tint to her lips. Kissing her fingers and gesturing to an image of another dark woman on her vanity, she smiled. She pushed the family cat out of her way and descended the stairs, slipping into the kitchen and preparing something light for breakfast.

She was tired, muscles a little sore from late night exercise. Swinging her blade about on her own, running and shadowboxing. She shook her head, taking a sip of cold water from the indoor water pump, a lavish addition to their home. It did her heart good to have that little freedom from her fathers work. From those sick beings that teemed in this city and brought their filth to him. It was a wonder her father was not dead or constantly ill- it was her doing by tending to him. Letting him keep her trapped here. She set her jaw and left the kitchen, entering the main room and passing to the small office where the ashen haired man stooped over piles of scattered papers.

Dusk purred softly serving her dear father some tea. He looked up at her, smiling and she cupped his chin. Her voice was midnight rosemary, her porcelain skin smooth and lovely, those ambered eyes so much like her mother- Gods bless her. "Father, have you slept yet," was her query. He answered no and her strong fingers squeezed until he winced. Poison in her tone, honey in the purr, "Then I will run your business today. You will go rest- three days is too long." He hesitated, his work was important and her loving smile told him there was no arguing.

The man rose, kissed his tall daughter on the cheek and retired to bed. The woman sighed softly, running a long nailed hand through obsidian hair. She sipped at the tea and began to clean up the modest healers building. Her father had been tinkering again, she read over the work biting on dark, full lips- it was sound until he'd begun writing to her mother. Sighing heavily, she looked out the shining window and flipped the sign to open. With luck it would be another slow day.

The explanation was well-rehearsed, Quintus had to admit. It seemed as though the man had been searching for a party for quite some time. Meaning, in the paragon's mind, that many people had turned him down due to some untold reasons. Quintus held back a laugh as the man walked away and Quintus turned in the opposite direction.

"To high hells if I venture on that wild beast chase."

Quintus instead spent some more of his treasures on necessities and headed back out of town, through the Northern Gate in which to avoid any other unpleasantries. The horizon welcomed him as the sun shone brightly overhead. He took a deep breath and headed off to a new life.
