Ami frowned. She knew she sucked, but it was just fantastic hearing that it sounded like she had no training, when in fact she'd been given improptu lessons by two people. It was just fantastic to hear that even though she'd been pushed to the brink for the past 2 weeks trying to keep herself together, it wasn't showing at all.
She sighed, slumping against the dummy she'd been hiding behind. Why did everything have to be so goddamn unlucky for her? She just wanted simple practice with dummies, no one else around. Just quiet concentration so she could get this stuff down, and maybe not suck so much as Sydney led her to believe.
But no. She had to get an unfair fight at the a** crack of dawn, with a girl telling her that the progress she thought she'd been making was non-existent.
"Sydney, would you just shut up," she urged, even though she knew it would do no good. She waited a moment before diving to a wall barrier. Not much better than the dummy, but it would do for now.

Something was going on that she didn't know about, Syd realized a bit belatedly. But for the life of her, she hardly noticed that Ami existed most of the time, so she had no clue. Instead, almost surprisingly, she didn't say anything.
She just shot her again.

Ami just shot back, attempting to focus on her target. At least the banter had stopped. Just hearing this girl speak was like nails on a chalkboard.
It was a strange paradox of therapeutic releases of anger and aggravating snipes in her direction. See, this is why she hated Sydney. It was never easy with her, nope.

"Your aim is getting better," Syd commented. But she wasn't going to lie--this spar was starting to get boring for her. It was hard to deal with the attitude Ami was giving off, and she honestly was starting to wonder why she was even bothering to try.
Well, there was that, Syd thought as another FEAR arrow glanced the other girl's shoulder.

Ami grimaced. A compliment was a compliment, but coming from Syd ... ewww.
She decided to attempt using the second setting on her guns. She'd never actually used it before, being too afraid it would backfire or something. She was very abhorrent to change, after all.
A split second decision, she flipped the wheel for setting and shot in Sydney's direction. Unfortunately, it netted the dummy right next to her. "You've got to be kidding me."

Syd turned and stared at the dummy a bit blankly. But she was so busy staring that she forgot to shoot again. Good job, Syd, good job.

"You ah... mean to do that?" Syd asked finally, turning back to the other female. "I mean, it'd work if we were hunting students--one is as good as the next as far as I can tell, but--
"Oh, um... never mind, then," she said. She was a little flustered at her own response, so to change the subject--she shot Ami again.

Ami fired a single shot over the wall and then slumped down against it, chest heaving with effort. Just walking from place to place sometimes left her breathless nowadays. Being in a spar? It was like running a marathon.
"Of course not," she grumbled, reloading her gun with a lazy sluggishness. As much as she didn't want to admit it, she was winding down. This was the limit of her nearly non-existent power.
But the idea of surrendering to Sydney was just out of the picture.

Syd looked at her watch. "Ah, times up for my shooting practice," she said blandly. "Thanks for the spar. I think I might try practicing with the runic weapons sometime, as well," she added, and walked away.

Ami let out a heavy sigh of relief as Syd announced her leave. She didn't dare thank the other girl, lest Sydney think that Ami actually appreciated the weird girl's presence.
She looked at the guns in her hands and set them down beside her. She slumped against the wall, taking a moment to catch her breath and let Syd do as she pleased. It wasn't like the last time they'd sparred. They'd stood on equal ground- or at least, Ami had felt like they were equals. Now she felt weak and miserable with no way to fix it.
A frown, and then she picked up one of the guns. After a long moment of just staring at it, she looked straight down the barrel and aimed it at a dummy's head. She looked around, realizing how silly this would've looked, but in seeing no one, she pulled the trigger.
The sound of the gun rang in the air and Ami sat stupefied. There was a hole in the head of the dummy.
Sydneyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
