The golden pridelander, Jemadari, was the first to respond to Bataar's apology, giving him a short nod. "No worries. I think we'll be joined by quite a number before we set off. Probably for the best. Safety in numbers, after all." He gave the other a unconcerned smile. "I'm Jemadari, from Pridelands. Nice to meet you."

And he turned to gesture towards his female companion. "And this is--uh--" He trailed. For when he looked back, Endesha was gone from her spot at her side. "Uh...never mind." It was his turn to look apologetic and, with the gathering crowds he failed to catch sight of Endesha's dark brown pelt.

"I do hope there is a monster, after all of this." He ended at last. "Otherwise there'll be some seriously disappointed glory-hunters."

--

Whilst Amali might not have noticed his sister amongst the crowds, Endesha had certainly noticed him. As if she had sensed his coming. As if this were meant to be. His chestnut fur was the same. The marking across his face, too. But he was older. Older and bigger.

And what was he called now, she wondered.

Was he still Amali or had he discovered his true self?

Not knowing how, she raised her voice and called; short and sharp. "Brother! Don't you know me?" And her heart was pounding and suddenly monsters seemed no longer important. The recent loss in the family had taken its toll on her but this...this was wonderful. "Brother?"

[I AM A NEWBIE]

Margulis had heard rumors of something strange, and that was all it took to light the curiosity within her. There were those who had called it a monster, she could not be so sure. It was surely misguided to name something beast when one hadn't ever seen it. Beast-like, perhaps, but she'd known many a lion who would warrant that same name. And so, not trusting simply the words of others, she had come in search of evidence. It seemed many others had as well.

She could hope. She knew in reality many were looking to take a piece from the creature's hide, whatever it was. If it proved truly foul and dangerous she might count herself among them. For now though, she would watch and wait. It was good time to learn more about the world, she'd come far out from home for this and from the looks of those around her she was not the only one. Lions, wild dogs, she even spied a maned wolf. Fine company, she felt.

((I apologise If I'm a bit rubbish at group RP, this is my first one ever and I get slightly confused sometimes))

A lion had responded to Bataars apology, and in light of his investigation it did not register until he was standing part-way with another group. "Oh, Do forgive me!" He moved a little closer to the golden male and smiled. "I'm Bataar, from er, nowhere in particular! Yes, I just heard of the monster, terrible isn't it, well, hopefully someone can do something about it!" He gave Jemadari a wide grin.

He wasn't sure if there actually was a monster around, he hoped not. He could deal with saving lionesses from trees, actual monsters, maybe not. Then again he had avoided a few ugly encounters as a rogue with some less than pleasant individuals over his time.

[I AM A NEWBIE]

Shebh didn't have much business being here, yet here he was. He had just followed along with a crowd of fellow rogues out of curiosity. It was only now that he was beginning to learn of the purpose of the meeting. A reason that he scoffed at.

"There's no such things as monsters," he would say to anyone who would listen. "Anyone who believes that baboon's tail should go join the baboons themselves."

But deep down, he was feeling a bit anxious about the whole event. There had to be some truth to the stories to get so many creatures to gather in one spot, right? Especially such a bizarre group as it was turning out to be. His eyes couldn't seem to settle in one place, since there were so many new faces around him. It seemed more like chaos than a contest.

"We're after baboons?" Haki cocked his head to the right slightly. Baboons weren't all that exciting, were they? Haki was now curious. He puzzled around for an answer to why they would go after a bunch of Baboons. "They must be a pretty big problem then." He had decided they probabely weren't Baboon hunting, but decided to go along with it for now. After all, he just knew they were exploring, and he didn't even have the slightest clue of why.

Mura nodded. "A baboon? Hm, So much commotion for such a creature. Though, to be honest, I've never actually seen a baboon up close to see the trouble they can cause. I think I might stick around and help find the little troublemaker." She said with a smile. "By the way my name is Mura, it is very nice to meet you. I am also thankful for your help! It isn't often I find someone willing to help me."

She saw the Jackal and her smile widened. Even small creatures were showing up! How adorable. She would be sure to keep an eye on him to make sure he didn't get hurt in the group. "Little Jackal, if you need to see, I wouldn't mind giving you a small lift"

She noticed more gathering near them. A grey lion was near them, which made her happy. At least now she wouldn't be the only lion in the small group. "What do you think of the gathering?" she asked curiously. She thought that maybe if she asked around, she would fully understand the situation. Whatever was happening she would be sure to help out the best she could.

"That depends very much on how you define monster," Margulis said with a soft laugh as she came alongside Shebh and the rest of the group, "An unknown being of evil? Perhaps not, but something large and misunderstood there surely might be. Or a combination of unfortunate events leading so many to this conclusion." It was impossible to be sure, and this worry did no one any good.

With so many in their group even if a large beast did threaten them she felt reasonably secure that they would be able to fend it off or at the very least escape. And then more might be known that they had known before. That was a victory, in her mind. "I for one, am excited to find out what lurks in the darkness. There's always more to discover," she said, an excited shiver running down her spine.

Amali was distracted as he picked up bits and pieces of conversations going on around him but he continued to look around- until he spotted his sister. He did a doubletake and took a hesitant step towards her before scrambling out of middle of the crowd and not stopping until he very nearly ran into her.

"Ruka!" he cried, barely realizing that she was careful not to call him by a name and not caring to comment on it. While he had plenty of time to visit with family outside of the swamps, his wandering sisters and his parents were out of his reach and he had missed them so much. All at once, just from seeing his sister, all worries of forgetting home seemed laughable. Nevermind that their cubhood together in the swamps had been much shorter than the time he had spent on his pilgrimage so far.

"What are you doing here!"

He came here looking for excitement but immediately he felt it was too dangerous for his sister-- and when he realized she had strange scars on her face, he was even more convinced. For the moment, at least.

Ah, finally someone Tahir could agree with! He felt several eyes on him – being, currently, the only maned wolf present seemed to have its advantages. Or disadvantages if he stepped out of line. He’d have to play his cards very carefully if he wanted to come out of this on top. Never-the-less, it was nice to hear the voice of reason from a lion. A black and orange fellow seemed to be sticking with the same story as Tahir – a monster was very unlikely. But everyone knew how baboons were. Looney, the whole lot of them. Even if they weren’t making up rumors, they had probably just hallucinated the whole incident.

Chasing baboon figments. Oh, goody.

“Yes, baboons,” he said, snuffing his nose up in the air,” Although I doubt those lions think so. They’ve been muttering about a monster.”

And the lioness was trying to make friends. That was good, very good. If he tagged along with her, perhaps he wouldn’t need to get his own paws dirty. Or bloody.

“Mura,” he nodded in greeting,” I’m Tahir.”

Ears perking to the side Mtifu's muzzle soon turned in that direction as well, spying a black lion with a bright orange mane (Shebh) next to her. She scoffed at his neigh-saying and shook her head. "Monster or not, something is terrorizing the lions and such around here. Why not go see what it is and take care of it if it really is killing others?"

The scent of blood was thick in the air, it would be hard to argue that nothing was going on around here, for there certainly had to be a reason for the blood to be sniffed, even from where they were now. She could only imagine the smell got worse once they got deeper into the woods.

He heard another address him, and whipped his head round quickly to reply to the ground from which he had politely eavesdropped. Looking from Mura to Jemadari he shrugged with a smile; "I've only just learnt of what it really is." He repeated the last sentence that he said to the golden Pridelander. "It sounds er, terrible, but I'm sure someone would be able to deal with it." He looked around and wondered if that someone could possibly be him. He was aware that others were strong and brave too, and that he couldn't save the world by himself.

"Ahh, in that case... It could be fun to discover what the unknown thing is." Shebh had to agree with Margulis, a soft chuckle escaping before he could stop it. Maybe he could come away with a story to tell, even though he felt a bit confused by the whole thing. He supposed he deserved it after following along like a lost cub!

"At the very least we could dispel the rumours," he said, rolling his shoulders in a noncommittal shrug. "I just hope that we don't scare... whatever it is, away." Shebh ended by gesturing to the ever expanding group, then shaking his head.

Haki's eyes seemed to light up at the thought of being lifted above the crowd. "Oh, yes, please!" His tail was somewhat wagging with excitment. "I can't see a thing. Not at all." This wasn't a lie in the slightest. It was sort of a pain really... Being shorter than everyone else, Haki could only see the legs of others. Unless he wanted to walk around unconfortably looking at the sky, Haki would never really get to see what everyone else's faces looked like.

What was going on? Her home, such as it was, seemed to be totally invaded by… by… lions. Lions were numerous everywhere of course, but there was so much land in the rogue areas that one could avoid them easily if need be. No such luck now! They seemed to be congregating in droves to the edge of a forest. Lani wasn’t particularly fond of entering the greenery. There was plenty more food there, of course, but plenty of danger, too. Didn’t these lions know that? Why, not so very long ago a whole pride had been cut to ribbons for crossing over.

Lani was pacing, her ears pinned back and her tail wagging anxiously between her legs. This would not do. This would not do.

Finally, a spot of orange nearly as bright as Lani herself caught her eye. Another dog!

“Oh, thank the stars!” she yipped and dove into the mass of lions, trying to make her way towards Mtifu,” Excuse me! Excuse me! What is all this about?”

An's heart leapt at the sight of her sister. It had been a long time since the two adolescents had parted ways- and while An had always hoped to return to the Motoujamii for a visit, she never would have imagined that it would be Seide leading the charge of firekin towards them. If she had been delighted in seeing Veru, it paled in comparison.

Allowing herself a few seconds for an affectionate romp, she pushed her head back against her sibling and traded light blows. "Seide!" It was hard to put into words how wonderful it was to see her. But even better, having Seide gave An a sudden boost of confidence. Her friends were here. Her family. There was no dark thing that could possibly triumph over that. "Couldn't resist the chance to show me up hunting monsters, I see!"

But with a large crowd gathering, there was more to do than simply exchange stories. She gave her sister a nod, before looking over the group. She could catch snippets of conversation as various dezians mumbled about the problem at hand. "I am afraid this is no work of baboons, at least none that I can tell."

"We've all heard the stories. Travelers going missing through the thick. I am sure there are plenty of exaggerations, but this so much is true: far too many have wandered into those woods to lose their lives. They aren't eaten or chosen for a specific reason. That is not something that can be allowed to stand." The ways of the wild were harsh, but they were not cruel.

"A few days ago I was approached by a friend. A group of lions were found dead- only one survivor remains but the healers have yet to revive him. I am assured he's in quite capable paws," she nodded in the direction of the gathered healers. "I am not foolish enough to think I can handle this on my own. I have one viewpoint, but together we have many."

"For those of you who are interested, I'd like to take you to speak to the healer and learn more about the thing that has done this. I'm told he has his own reward to offer," she concluded.

"A monster hunt it is then?" Veru mused. Perhaps too knowingly.

An turned her head. "A chance to see some good old fashion firekin strategy at work," she hopped off her rock. In a lower voice, she continued: "I hear firekin are hunting their own monsters. This will be good practice. And you'll like what my friend has to offer."
