Just managed to read the interview. I have to say, it was intrigue to read it. Seeing what's going on in the developers' minds about why they created the features as well as how much struggle they tried to overcome the issues they had faced against.
For the Casual Mode, I have to agree with everyone (Yes, everyone.) It makes the gameplay too easy for even beginners to play, make it less for you to develop your tactic strategies, and takes away the emotions when you lose a character. However, I agree with those that it's just a mode (not a level) and the players have the choice if they want to play it or not. In fact, the developers already stated in the interview that they had test players tested out the feature and gave them their input. Does it ruin the experience of the game? I would have to say it may gave a sour taste for those who play Fire Emblem before, but it doesn't ruin the experience for those who are new.
Beside the Casual Mode, I was bit of surprised about the reason behind the creating of My Unit. Creating My Unit just so the player can be introduced who is Marth? I admitted that I wasn't happy about why they created My Unit. However, I agreed with the developers that it did make the player more connected to the characters and its world. Just like how FE7 was made when we get to make a tactician. I also like the idea of how they make you go through the military test before you can join Marth's group. While it's understandable that it is a tutorial for those who are new to play, I also feel like you're part of the character in the game. Sure, veterans know how to play, but wasn't it also the players' dream to be part of that game too?
Also that "How's Everyone" feature, it kinda makes me feel like I'm playing Pokemon where you go to that place where Pokemon can roam around and pick up items (Then again, Fire Emblem is kinda like Pokemon when you're battling and training. >>; ) I dunno if that feature is a good idea or not, but like the Casual mode, it's a player's choice if he/she likes to use it or not.
