Esme didn't seem to notice anything wrong with what she said, nor Alex holding back what he wanted to say. Nor did she seem to notice the obvious: pencils + paper --> draw something on it.

"Right. Draw something. Gotcha."

She immediately set to work, not at all phased by her lack of artistry. It began with stick figures with a normal number 2 pencil. One stick figure held the other in a romantic dip. She added hooked elvish ears to the latter, to differentiate between the two otherwise similar characters.

"Hmmm." Esme paused a moment, tapped the pencil against her lips in thought.

Yes, draw something. For a moment he considered asking her if she was having a bad day, and was thus scatter brained, or is she was just naturally stupid. But he also didn't feel like getting in trouble, as surely someone would hear him and the professor would say something, so he kept his comments in check and simply nodded his head to her.

While he set about blending some colors for himself to work with he glanced over to her and stared, she was artistic? Not likely; not unless she was a master doodler. Maybe the art professor, who always made rounds, would decide to do what she often did and plop down with Esme and help her. The professor was the sort who liked to bounce around and socialize while sitting with various people and help them on projects, teach/show them new skills and in general guide them to creating what they were looking to create. it looked like Esme could use a lot of guiding.

"You do know if you need assistance you can always ask the professor, she is rather brilliant and would be able to help you bring that to...life." He spoke, rather blandly, as he nodded his head to her attempt at art.

The world may never know.

Esme blinked once and looked over at Alex, over at what he had started. Luckily, or perhaps unluckily, for him she tended to see everything with rose-colored glasses. His bland jabs and attempts to not call her a dumb b***h were blocked by sunny dispositions and a huge wall of gullibility.

"Yeah!" Haha. Nervous laugh. "I guess so." Esme raised her hand to try to get the professor's attention. She would save the day... and Esme's masterpiece. "It's nothing as impressive as what you're about to do or what you've already done," Esme continued, with a blush creeping to her cheeks. "Just an homage to the greatest couple of all time."

"Greatest couple of all time?" He questioned, looking up from where he was just starting to lay his colors down. "Are we speaking of Romeo and Juliet?" He asked, though truth be told he actually found that play/story too sappy for him. He liked romance stories/movies but that one was just too much. Maybe it was just the dramatics involved, especially when one killed them self in the end? Either way it was too much in his opinion, he'd hated reading it in English class last year.

Watching the art professor make her way to them, all five foot of her, he smiled and let her glance at what he was slowly working on. He had a long ways to go till he was comfortable using anything other than water paints, but he really had no choice and he knew it. He'd have to gain some ability and confidence in other mediums and he knew it.

She had to laugh again, this time not so nervously. "Noooo, silly. Not that Romeo and Juliet aren't an awesome couple." Oh, beautiful beautiful sap. It could rock Esme's world any day.

Esme waited until the professor was finished looking over Alex's piece before she tried to explain it to both of them.

"The greatest couple of all time is clearly Captain Kirk and his first mate, Spock."

Ok, that was not expected - clearly. The look, the simple stare of slightly widened eyes said it all. But in case the visual wasn't enough there were words to go with it.

"What...?" And Alexandre was supposed to be good with words, clearly he was slipping right now. It wasn't the fact it was two males, not that Esme knew this, but it was a matter of who it is. Well...that explained the ears one of her stick figures had.

The professor seemed to have an absolutely shocked look about her, not to mention the whole silence thing going on. When it seemed she'd blinked, and shaken, herself out of her silence she managed to ask how she could help her. What was she looking to depict and did she want to draw it in a realistic way, shading and all done in pencils.

Okay, NOW all of this warranted a little jut out of her lower lip and a pout. "Seriously? You don't know the first and greatest slash pairing of all time?"

OF ALL TIME?

Esme went on to explain to the teacher that she wanted the two in uniform, with Kirk holding Spock in a dip and gazing lovingly into his eyes. The background would be the holodeck, black and lined with olive green boxes to depict that it wasn't in use yet. They were a pair embroiled in intrigue and secret love and this was one of those rare moments where they could just be alone together and it HAD to show in the piece.

Once she was done with the first round of explanation, she nodded and looked over to Alex. "That unspoken love between Kirk and Spock - now that's true art."
PostPosted: Sun Sep 30, 2012 9:04 pm

"Slash...?" Alexandre, not a fan fiction writer or reader, was utterly confused and dared to ask just what she meant by slash. he really wasn't sure he should be asking, but he was also curious and in need of knowing. The professor seemed, at a glance, just as baffled and lost as he felt and likely appeared to be. At least he wasn't the only one, he didn't bother to glance around and see who had been listening in and was lost as well. His attention was focused on Esme as he waited for an answer to his confusion.

As she went on to explain things, things he really didn't want to know, he felt himself going from confused to feeling something he couldn't quite place a name to, it was that feeling you got when you just wanted to ask a person why and yet also hide because what you were seeing or hearing was just that embarrassing. You did it sometimes with moves, where a character just acted so stupid and clueless that you couldn't deal with seeing or hearing any more of it, he was feeling like that because of what was spouting from the pink haired girl. Kirk and Spock, not even having ever watched the show he knew who they were, and he just didn't see it nor did he see why people would think such a thing; apparently a lot of people did.

"....Ok." He really felt like he wanted to melt into his chair, a feeling completely foreign to him and not one he liked the feeling of. She was an idiot, fanatical in his opinion, clueless to the looks she had been getting as people tuned into what she was saying, and he was sitting next to her so what did they think of him now? "Though I can't say there is anything unspoken there nor can I call it true art." An attempt at grounding himself again, at righting these foreign and unwelcome feelings filling him.

Oh NO he DIDN'T.

The narrowed eyes, the scowl, the hands on her hips. They all conveyed that message of dangerously crossing the line.

What she read about, what she wrote and put her heart and soul into -- it was getting ripped apart by some non-believer and she was NOT going to let that slide.

Her eyes darted about the class. Some stared at her, like the teacher, while others knew of her interests already. Esme didn't care what they thought. She was friendly to all of them and as far as she knew and cared about, they liked her.

But she wasn't thinking of that. She was instead homing in on and seeking out the faces that would color her next portrait, that next shipping masterpiece.

"Ah. You and Gabriel." Esme smacked her lips and leaned back, smiled again. This time that smile was a little bit mischievous and a whole lot of trouble. "Tell me something, Alexandre. Do you like boys or girls, or both?"

For a moment he wondered if she was going to slap him, even prepared for it, he had perhaps shocking never been slapped by someone. At least he was thinking in terms of his civilian side, as a powered up member of the Negaverse he'd been more than slapped, but as new of a thing as this was he was prepared for the slap he was sure to come. Esme looked...upset to put it lightly.

"Gabriel, the one who's into aliens?" He questioned, he didn't know if there were any other Gabriel's in their school. Chancing a look about the classroom he focused his attention on her then and answered honestly, he had nothing to be ashamed of and no reason to hide it. "I'm homosexual." For those who thought it was a fad, or something you could turn away from or ignore, they should really meet Alexandre. His reaction to the idea of the other gender, to doing anything with them, made him ill.

Those two words could never have been more beautiful.

She let them sink in deep to her soul, to help soothe the pain that she felt from such a horrible rejection of her artwork. And it wasn't because she could no longer pursue him. Oh no. Oh no, no, no. It was quite the opposite.

"I have SUCH the hugest crush on you."

And the slap indeed came. It wasn't hard but it stung.

The smile grew, but it didn't quite reach her eyes. Even though they were such sweet words, it hurt to smile now. "You're my friend, so I'll forgive your being an a**." Just a few minutes and she'd forget all about this transgression. Jerk. "Just be more careful next time." Haha, yeah, right. "So, see you tomorrow."

Esme's hand shakily grabbed at her sketch. Just grab and go, grab and go. And it would all be over.

She could pursue him through the work of her imagination. That's all that really mattered...

Considering what she'd said she was drawing, and her other words, he wasn't surprised that somehow his answer was a good thing - something which gained her affection. Was she some sort of female who wanted to have a load of gay male friends? Somehow he thought she was that sort.

"Alright..." Nodding his head slowly. She was an odd one, very odd and not like anyone he'd ever encountered before. She was his friend, and she had just slapped him, and was now taking off from the art classroom.

What had just happened, what had happened since she'd come into the art room?

It was at the end of art club that he held back long enough to speak to the teacher. For some reason that girls, Esme's, personality and that she was so forgiving had gotten to him as he'd worked on his painting. Standing at the professors desk he asked her if she wouldn't sketch out a drawing for her, like she'd described earlier, he'd find a way to get it into her locked. Something to balance things and set them right. She accepted his blunt answer, forgave him for being...him, and than took off.

With the art professor agreeing, and agreeing to help her learn to draw, he headed off since he still had work to get to.
